As a child, he lived in Puerto Rico with his two parents and half-brother Mateo up until he was five years old. Nero spoke even less than he does presently, including with his family and especially other children his own age. Despite that, he still loved his family dearly, though he felt much more connected to Mateo and their father, since they were both also on the spectrum while his mother wasn't.

Nero also already started becoming interested in bugs at this age, constantly coming back home covered in mud after digging through the dirt to find worms and centipedes alike. He became fascinated in how they looked and behaved, and eventually developed a special interest in them. He wanted to learn more about bugs even at that age, and his owned a bunch of insect-identification books with a lot of facts on them. His father also ended up giving him a stuffed beetle plush that Nero still owns to this day. He named it Harold and took it with him everywhere. It's currently a 2-in-1 comfort item and stim, since it's really soft and heavy after taking a major risk and performing surgery on it to make it weighted.

Nero was born without his right leg, and with his current prosthetic, sticks little bug stickers on top of it. He most likely still keeps his past prosthetics over the years in his closet.

The reason Nero's hair is so messy and jagged is because he cuts his hair by himself, keeping a lock of it longer than the rest for "style".

He has a fascination towards fire, often burning himself by sticking his fingers into candles to play with the flame. He never learns his lesson, still toying with flames even after almost setting clothing and other household items alike on fire.

Nero's face scar was caused by a flower pot nicking his face when he was about seven; he was playing outside, doing the usual and digging through mud looking for bugs, when he rammed into a wall and caused a flower pot to drop and cut him. He didn't even realize until his mom freaked out about all the blood on his clothes, and needed stitches.
