Background :

WIP: Veikko is a small deity for a local village called Wimbane. He was once worshiped but soon lost his fame due to finishing his promise.

Becoming and Falling of a Deity:

~~ He was still a young deity and still remembers the day he came to existence. A small grouping of humans once prayed for help and guidance. They were early settlers that were on hard times. One day a few of them pray for any god or deity to hear their prayers. And so out of this need Veikko was pulled out of his realm to this one. He doesn't remember the realm but he remembers rolling out of a tree trunk's roots crawling out to meet the human's face to face. Frightened Veikko ran back into the hole only to have the settler's grab him by his small antlers and hold him like a fresh catch. He was smaller back then and cried out in fear trying to wrestle away. They had never seen something like him before and they openly debated if they should eat such a strange creature. It was the elderly women who yelled out and took him into her arms. Fearful Veikko bit the women and tried to escape. The women cried out but slowly watched her wound heal. Veikko didn't understand human at the time but she said something along the lines that Veikko was the answer to their prayers. They kept him in a small wooden cage and would offer him many types of foods until they realized he didn't eat and for days everyone thought the women was crazy. It wasn't until they started to notice that Veikko was growing rapidly. Veikko wouldn't eat the food but would instead absorb that objects essence. He would visibly grow in front of their eyes with each item or food. In return Veikko's power grew and came to grasp his old world's knowledge again. No longer a frightful kit he spoke to them in their native language. His kind had the gift of tongues and could learn every language spoken by man. He convinced them to release him with a promise that he would help them settle in the forest. A creature like himself was bound to his words and used his ability to help the settlers. He'd call forth wild game, help keep the soil fertile, and keep dark entities away. They eventually built a small shrine in his honor and would regularly devour his offerings. They learned even objects like feathers and wood carvings would offering him energy. [He was very interested in human trinkets.] After many years Veikko had grown too his full size and the settlement had grown prosperous. When the day his contract was over Veikko returned to the village to speak to the chief. "Long ago your people spared my life and released me. That day I promised to help your town and people. You have settled and have become very prosperous. I hope I have fulfilled my promise and would like to be released from my vow." The villagers were very loving towards Veikko long ago so when the Chief released him from his promise. They were thankful to have had him on their side. Unfortunately time passes and villagers took for granted his gifts. It began with some days going hungry and followed by vermin etc. Small things started to turn into larger ones. They over farmed patches of earth, over fished the river, over hunted the wild game, livestock went hungry, and etc. They had forgotten how hard life was before. Instead of learning and growing the village grew to hate Veikko for abandoning them. Many went to his shrine to beg for his help and guidance only to hear silence upon the stone. They had grown to be pampered and spoiled by his gifts. Veikko choose to be silent and instead helped them more indirect ways. Leading them to wild game in the forest or guiding the occasional medicine man to the village. Little things that would help them get by. He hated to see children go hungry and would spend time watching over them. Even with this the villages spat his name. He was nothing but a curse. Many years past and his shrine soon became over grown and forgotten.  The villagers did make it through their hardship and learned to keep things better but the hatred never left. They forgotten him generation to generation and he became a legend or folk tale. However, over the generations there was still a small light of people who followed the old gods in secret. Many refused the old deities like Veikko. The elderly woman's family all those years ago taught her children and they taught their children's children about Veikko. They did not hate him and instead would sneak off to bring him offerings once a year. They built a small shrine within their home. Veikko was said to be seen by the small children of the family but the adults weren't so lucky. Veikko kept a good contact with that family in particular. [Last Name: Lumik] Plus he liked small human pups. They were always giggly and covered in snot. He learned many years ago how to turn invisible at will and would make the odd appearances to them. It was not odd to see him playing tag with the youngsters. However it always felt like a foggy dream when recalled later by the tiny humans. ~~

Side Story:

They had become prosperous not all from his intervening but from learning and growing from his lessons. The built the family crest with white antlers. They tried to hide the the idea they supported Veikko to the public.

Veikko spent a particular long summer with the family of Lumik. He could change his size to that of a house cat and would lay about the house messing with trinkets when they were away. Small children would call out when they found their toys lay about the floor. Adults would feel his presence but never so lucky to catch him in the act. Distant relatives decided to visit the home and thats when it happened. Veikko was in the garden communicating with the flowers asking them they must grow another bloom as they are so pretty. [They argued they were already so full!] It's the one time he wasn't invisible. Veikko thought everyone had gone out to do their jobs or chores etc. The visiting family's daughter had rounded the corner to see him in the garden sitting in front of the flowers. Instead of screaming she frozen and wide eye'd. Memories from her childhood flooded back to her as she recalled a beast with long white antlers and a long fluffy body would play with her in the garden. Every adult had long forgotten the image of Veikko because he'd only appear to children of the family. The spelled placed on her was now broken and the memories flowed freely. Veikko could sense this surge of energy in the air frightened, he spied the lone girl across from him. In his own panic he disappeared instantly in front of her. Shocked the girl fainted within the seconds of locking eyes with Veikko. [Just want to clarify she was a young adult. Hadn't quite forgotten him yet.]

The family found her past out and Veikko watched over her in horror of what he had done. What was going to happen once his secret was out. Maybe they'll think it was all a dream. When she finally awoke her head hurt not only from the fall but from the surge of unlocked memories. She felt his presence so much more strongly then before like he was looming at the foot of her bed. Then it would all disappear like it walked out of the room. It bewildered her for awhile and when people would ask what happened she'd say the summer heat got to her. She didn't dare share with her family she saw Veikko.

Over time she learned she could follow his presence room to room and would get close to cornering him in parts of the house. He quickly learned to avoid tight areas and tried to avoid her. She only grew bolder and bolder with different events over the summer until one summer evening when everyone was asleep. She went out to the garden to have a little drink. She talked to him as if  he was sitting next to her which wasn't far from the truth. Veikko was fascinated by her. He watched over her as a human pup and even as an adult. She wasn't destined to be another house wife of this age. She love literature and was educated. He always loved the poem books she would bring over the summer and would read them when she wasn't looking. [This summer he feared to even go in her room.] Anyways, no one ever had been so driven to see him again before. Even having the spell broken most would assume it was some sort of dream and move on. She instead actively pursued him around the home. He looked upon her curiously and wondered what harm has not already been done. She was saying something about how she must be crazy when Veikko in a soft deep voice said "Your not crazy but you should know that bottle will due you faster then any other beast.' She froze shocked to hear the voice so close to her she dropped the cup only to see it being catched by a translucent paw. He was laying next to the bench as his form slowly solidified. Veikko sniffed the cup of vine curiously and took the whole cup into his mouth with one swig. He licked his lips as the girl looked at him in shock. She tried to utter words but only gibberish escaped. Veikko wasn't sure how to handle this, something just told him to speak to her. "I know this is shocking but know I didn't plan this to happen. I thought I was alone." [WIP]

Still a work in Progress: I wanted to play with the idea that Veikko falls in love with this girl. Slowly over time he shares his world with her and eventually steals her away to his world in the forest. Eventually he fulfills her wish for him to take human form. They spend her lifetime together happily and have a few half-deity children. They raise them as humans and they eventually return back to the family of Lumik. Not many believe in Veikko being their father but thanks to a letter and a few forced hints from Veikko they are accepted.  The children eventually branch off to their own stories and journeys.
