Arcane grew up in a family that didn't really believe in him, but he showed them all by becoming a specialist tutor, eventually coming to work for his home country's royal family. Arcane despises his "in-laws"-- eh, employers, once he spends enough time working with their eldest son, who's just a few years younger than he is.

Industrious and intelligent, Arcane has learned how to fit in with other people, despite his inner anxieties and (initial) social awkwardness. He's turned other people into his study, and as far as he's concerned, he's become a master of navigating his world.

He is secretly very passionate, with a strong sense of right and wrong - bordering on black and white thinking at times, as his perception of reality is fairly biased towards Pastor. Sometimes, at Pastor's expense. He hates Pastor's parents and younger brother equally, because he doesn't completely understand that said younger brother is also a victim of their abuse, rather than just a spoiled prince.

Arcane has always been a prodigy when it comes to teaching children, since he was a child. He is gifted when it comes to explaining all sorts of things in ways that others can understand. He was the newest of the royal family's attempts to 'fix' their autistic son and 'shape' him into being a suitable heir to the throne. He came to befriend and sympathize with that eldest son, who was only a few years his junior, and came to understand that Pastor's basic humanity was being conditionally granted by his parents, based on how well he could pass as neurotypical. From this, Arcane formed his worldview and his identity, as being the ally of those who can't speak for themselves. This leads him both to heroism and massive failure.
