The All-Queen Aurelia was an eternal goddess who descended to the world, Anterris, to rule it from a golden throne. Bereft of mortal emotion, she could not know love, and was immune to the enervating thoughts and feelings that twinge the soul like needles. For eons, the queen reigned cognizant of every future, every outcome, and guided the world into prosperity. But her rule came at a cost - death. None could challenge her throne and live, for none could guide the mortals and protect them from themselves as she could. And so, her subjects came to call her heartless and cruel. If mortals were left to rule themselves, being creatures of want and emotion, they would quarrel and burn up the world to line their pockets or satisfy their urges. So she let them hate her, knowing it was for their good. For millennia, mortal life flourished.

Then one day, the queen's father found the world to which she had escaped.

History

Creation. The moment at which the union of primordial deities Aureus Augustus and Hathor-Mehet consummated their union. Aureus, the Wolf, represented the strength of body, acumen, and that which would come to be known as predation. Hathor, the Cow, embodied strength of heart, of wisdom, and the gentleness mortals know as intrinsic to prey. For many eons, no beings lived save for those the mortals now call 'gods.' A noble and prosperous culture had arisen around the King and Queen of deities, spreading across the cosmos that had grown into a healthy collection of universes. For a time, all was well. The King and Queen were celebrated, beloved. One day, the royal pair announced the birth of their daughter, inheritor of their virtues. The jubilant celebrations sparkled across reality and formed into shining new stars.

The Princess of Creation was to be named Aurelia; a wolf, birthed in the Milk of Creation. Now, the Gods, for a time, age as we do. Princess Aurelia was a bright, curious little girl, beloved by her divine subjects. As she grew she was adored and cosseted by her mother, her Mistress of the Robes, who administered the court's women, and the other ladies-in-waiting. She was the gem of the Kingdom of Divinity. Her toys were intricate automatons, and her favorite songs were her mother's lullabies. On her sixth birthday, all the Gods came to greet her.

Amphoridea, Goddess of Beauty, came and told her all she was already gifted with a future of beauty. The musing Deities of the Arts asserted that as she would one day be beautiful, so likewise would she grow into a most beautiful voice. Agrestos-Telos, the horned God of War assured Aureus his daughter would be powerful and dignified. One by one, deities attested; wisdom, foresight, kindness - all good things would be granted to the Princess of the Gods and they needn't worry. Of course, her mother, Hathor-Mehet, was already sure of all this. From her parents she received two presents: the peony, King of Flowers, and a symbol of her father's love; the rose, Queen of Flowers, emblematic of the love of her mother.

Despite the joy surrounding the young princess in the six years since her birth, Aurelia's father, Aureus Augustus, had grown restless. He had begun to create Gods who were disloyal, factions who would create war, so that he could challenge himself, so that he could fight and conquer - so that he could predate. Turmoil engulfed the cosmos, sparking rivalries that burned and sputtered out, always with Aureus the victor. Then, as quickly as the dawn came, Hathor-Mehet left the Divine Court and her kingdom. Without a word she disappeared, leaving Aureus to raise his daughter alone. He was a strict, embittered father, who imposed countless rules upon the princess and her upbringing. She was to adhere to the roles of a woman, to learn etiquette, to learn beauty, and little else. He took books from her hands and replaced them with looking glasses.

By the time she was a teenager, she was more a slave than a daughter. The young princess was a being of uncanny grace and beauty, made in the image of her father, with her mother's favorite shade of shimmering, peony pink hair. A being of dichotomy, Aurelia had both the delicate, careful grace of a wolf, and a voluptuous figure reminiscent of her bovine mother. Divine beings envied her and vied for her affections, but without being raised with love she had none to give. For his court, Aureus made her sing, even if he had to control her movements and force her voice as from one of her childhood automatons. To ensure the locus of her destiny lay always within his grasp, the old wolf wrenched the eidolon of her heart from her very chest, to be kept as that most precious of crystalline jewels in his treasury.

Finally, on her eighteen birthday, Aurelia was due for her coronation. It was a grand ceremony, and she took to it with the abstracted anticipation of flight. There were to be powers, actual divinity and godhead bestowed upon her that day, and she knew what she had to do. When her father conferred upon her the Crown of Divinity, befitting the Princess of Creation, she immediately absconded, a combination of her desperate desire to escape her cruel father and her newfound omnipotence affording her the opportunity she had long dreamed. Far away she ran, all the way to the world of mortals, to a particular world, where, upon her arrival, the Gods who ruled it decided they were no match for their Princess, and bowed during their departure.

From then on, Aurelia ruled this world for eons, uninterrupted by her father or even his heralds. She was well and truly free, all on her own. The mortals of the world looked to her for guidance, and she gave them a great deal. From a desert, she made an oasis. From nothing, she provided culture, based on that divine society she had once known. For millennia the mortals lived under her rule - their Regina Aeterna, and she shepherded them gladly. But mortals are not gods, and mortals feel greed and urges and emotions that gods cannot understand. These desires to overthrow her, to upset the balance of the world, would lead them all to ruin if left unchecked. And so, whenever groups began to rebel, she put them to death so as to ensure the masses would survive and live in peace and plenty. As time passed she came to be known as a wicked, unfeeling queen - and perhaps she was: with her coronation, her father had removed her memories of her mother, and so divine she could not comprehend the vicissitudes of painful mortal emotions.

Present

No king or queendom, no matter how carefully ruled, lasts forever. Aureus Augustus has found his daughter, and in stripping her queendom from her he has also stripped her of her divinity. He now rules in her stead, brutally hacking away at the balanced, prosperous, egalitarian society his daughter created and forming it into something new. Aureus spares not the rod and axe, even for his own daughter. Her vassals are made to publicly denounce her, her citizens are subject to restrictive new edicts, and even her beloved gardens of peonies and roses are destroyed - each flower and bud snipped, leaving only the thorns. She is now kept in a golden parure of chains in her own bed chambers, caged and only seen by her chambermaids, each overeager to cosset her in excessive maintenance which her father demands be forced onto her. She is kept like a pet, awaiting that which she is told is her highest obligation - marriage, and the production of male heirs to inherit the kingdom and to serve her father.

Hathor-Mehet

[ Mother ]

Hathor-Mehet, Mistress of Stars, Queen of Creation. There are debates about who actually created the universe - Aureus or Hathor, or whether they did it wholly together. Hathor prefers not to squabble over such things, instead remaining infinitely kind and maternal. She adores her only daughter, but has separated from her husband and is not present in the current story for reasons yet unknown.
