River was born in skyrim, both of her parent having lived there for ages. Her parents were part of a khajiit caravan, and River traveled around a lot as a child. She began learning magic when her parents stopped in Riften for a few months. She was fascinated by it and sought to learn more. The caravan took on a mage later, and River began learning from him. She had very weak illusion powers when she first began hearing about the collage of winterhold. With much explanation to her parents, River left the caravan and began an adventure of her own. She found her way to the collage and began learning from there. She grew to an advanced mange, and favored illusion and frost magic spells. She's been on plenty of adventures but always found home in the collage dorms. 

When dragons began appearing River was more concerned than others. She didn't know why or where they were coming from, but believed magic to be apart of it. She began trying to find the source of this, adventuring all across Skyrim until she came upon a burial crypt. While studying it the dragon emerged and she had to fight it off. After a close encounter with death River returned to the collage and promised to protect Winterhold from any dragon attacks. She did just that. Eight years went by when a khajiiit appeared in the village, looking for a theif he'd been sent to kill. River found his job fascinating and asked to tag along. The khajiit, who went by the name of Thunder, agreed and the two set out in search for this theif. They found their way to Solitude, where they began hearing rumors of a new Queen. They eventually found their way to her, and the Queen, Wind, explained how the dragon issue had been getting worse. She admitted to being the Dragonborn, but couldn't defeat the dragons herself. The three grew a close bond as they began adventuring across Skyrim, in search for the source of the dragon problem. They eventually found the theif Thunder had been looking for all this time, wandering down a road with a bag of stolen goods. Thunder wanted to kill her but after much thought, River suggested letting Shadow tag along to repay her dept. Shadow, not wanting to die, agreed but didn't like it. The four eventually found Alduin, and helped Wind defeat him for good.

After the defeat of Alduin, River went her own way much like the others. They were still really close, and often met up to adventure. When Wind was attacked by people from Solstheim, the four decided to check it out. When they arrived they met a dark elf by the name of Azura who claimed to be the protector of the island. He told the four about the trouble but insisted it was nothing and tried to send them back to the mainland. The four refused and began exploring the island, Azura following them to make sure they didn't mess anything up. Thunder and Azura grew close, the two talking about combat and which weapons to use properly. River didn't hate Azura, but wasn't too close to him. She admired his magic abilities and his strong loyalty to the island. After awhile Azura admitted there was another dragon problem on the island. He told them of a man named Miraack who seemed to be the cause of the trouble. Wind told Azura she could be the reason why and the five decided to defeat him together. They did so, and Azura eventually joined them on some adventures.
