Jackal-Lyn is a young mutant woman within the Mutant: Year Zero roleplay universe. She and around 200 others like her were born in the Ark, a derelict ship and one of the last remainders of humanity after civilisation destroyed itself years ago. Raised by the Elder, they've grown up isolated from the post-apocalyptic wasteland know as The Zone, safe behind the walls and the care of the Elder. But the Elder grows old and frail, while his precious mutants cannot live longer than thirty, and cannot reproduce. The concept of Eden was a fairytale and a myth, but as their situation grows dire, it maybe their only hope! Can they find Eden and the truth behind their limited existence? Background

Jacquelyn always had a vivid imagination. In every game, she would play as someone else, the strongest, the best. Collecting faded posters and torn pages depicting beautiful warriors conquering both beast and man, she knew she had a destiny. She and the other mutants grew, and as times got tougher Jacquelyn became more absorbed in her made up world. Rough kids'-play turned to brawls and injuries. In her eyes, struggle and hardship was merely a foe to defeat, a trial set to test her strength. From that she earned the nickname-Jackal-Lyn. Day-to-day living was an annoyance, a distraction from her fantasies. The role of a Slave suited her; to not think but to do, for another to pass her grub and water in exchange for the work no one else could endure. Many masters have come and gone, the numerous brands on her back are proof of that. Hired rough, pest hunter, cage fighter, labourer, security and more still; if her strength and abilities were an advantage, that's where she was drawn. But her over-zealous work ethic and her tendency to zone out, coupled with the her masters' inability to tame or instil fear, quickly saw her sold off to the next fool thinking they could do better. The People concluded that they must begin exploration of the Zone, and Jackal-Lyn became restless. Finally, an opportunity to see what lurked beyond the walls. Her owner at the time was the gang Boss, Badger. Under his command she was a dangerous menace. He'd been considering sending her into the Zone to hunt for his menagerie, fulfilling all of Jackal-Lynn’s desires at once. But he was killed in the slave uprising, leaving her without an Master to provide for her. Bitter and aimless, she resorted to vicious muggings and shake downs to survive. Life took another turn when she challenged the wrong mutant. Barely surviving the physical(and verbal) castigations, Jackal-Lyn was then offered a job by that same woman; Madam Silence. Working security in Madame Silence's brothel, Jackal-Lyn underwent a change. Silence had both patience and assertiveness, a cool confidence and a terrifying fury that impressed Jackal-Lyn into an awed respect, and almost adoration. She pointed out that in her favourite stories, the heroes were usually defending someone or something important to them, who didn't have the power to protect themselves. She tried to challenge her perspective; to change a situation from 'defeating the bad guys', to 'protecting the ones you care about.' Still contemplating this, an opportunity arose to see outside the Ark. A monstrous vessel came drifting past their home, eclipsing it. She joined the exploration team, not quite asking for Silence's permission. It was dangerous and explosive, and it gave Jackal-Lyn a thrill completely new to her. Shortly after, she was hired for a raid on a powerful Boss's property. It went bad, with one of the group dead, another crippled and herself stabbed and restrained. She was allowed to leave, but only to suffer Madam Silence's full wrath. As the water situation grew dire, once again she felt the call of Zone. She had the power to help the People, by clearing a path through the horrors for her fellow mutants, securing their survival. Then finally she can test her true strength against the creatures and denizens of the Zone, fighting the glorious battles she has always dreamed of. But Madam Silence made on thing clear; should she choose to venture out into the Zone, Jackal-Lynn would no longer have a place under her employ.
