Sachiko Hino

Many people misunderstand Sachiko. They assume he is greedy and decadent, but he craves nothing for himself. However, he does have a  very loud, nosy, and hard to handle personality, which cannot be contained. This gets him into trouble quite often, and he is seen as a burden. 

For many years, Sachiko lived with the main household of the prosperous Katayanagi as a servant.  He had been with the family so long, having a longer lifespan than humans, that he became a sort of heirloom passed down to the new heads of house over the generations. Within the family, many believed that he was the reason for the head family's great wealth, but to the outside world, he was their greatest kept secret.

One day, he was thrown out of the main family after the main household lost a great deal of money and kept losing more and more and more. Sachiko's good luck wasn't working anymore. The family became unsure if he was truly any good luck at all. To the family, he became "damaged goods." In attempts to make back some of the money lost, the head of the house gambled Sachiko's servitude away to a lower, distant relative who had heard of Sachiko's "magic wealth giving powers" and happily took advantage of the opportunity to win him. 

Sachiko was taken to a small fishing village by his new master, Hirofumi. He no longer did household work but instead accompanied Hirofumi to gambling houses. For a while, fortunate came his new master's way, but Sachiko's good luck, if he had any, couldn't keep up with how quickly he was losing money. Hirofumi spiraled into a depression but wouldn't give up for a long time, until he became sick. Unable to leave the house, Hirofumi entrusted Sachiko to his son, Suga, who now works with Sachiko to help recover his family's debts.

Suga is the first person to treat Chi as his own person, and he has become very loyal to him.
