Born in Perth, Ethan L. Warren spent most of his time as a young adult pursuing an education, and earned a doctorate by the time he was 25. By this time, he had been married to one Deanne Brooker. But their marriage was rocky and though they loved each other, Ethan ultimately poured all his energy into work. He had a keen interest in Biochemistry, and due to his genius, he was offered a job at P. L. A. C. Labs, where he remained for several years. He later moved on to carry out his research all over the world, spending another few years studying the Chernobyl disaster of '86, with little care for his health. He was looking for a particular radioactive entity on the site, but research was inconclusive.
In spring of '88, Ethan left Ukraine after he became so sick from the radiation, despite his advanced measures, that continuing his work there was futile. He traveled deep into the Russian wilderness to retrieve alleged ancient bacteria from the permafrost, hoping to create new cures and if necessary, weapons. While there, he partnered up Dr. Eckstein, and they got their hands on MG Trigonus and a handful of Gekkos. For a brief period, they held out a fortified research post in the Siberian tundra. Over a year and a half, Ethan got better with the help of some experimental methods he and Eckstein worked together on. He survived, but his body was never the same, and he experiences strange relapses of his previous radiation sickness every once in awhile. The two regarded each other as "fellow helpers of mankind." They even considered one another as friends, and were hesitant to part when their post was raided by a rouge militia calling themselves The Nameless; lead by a woman only known as The Leader who always, and frustratingly, seemed to be one step ahead of them. Eckstein lost MG Trigonus and the rest of his Metal Gears, as well as his research when the building exploded, allowing he and Ethan's escape.
But the two never reunited, and both fell into a brief hiding as the Earth seemed to be catching fire over The Man Who Sold the World. Ethan was well-versed in the politics of the era, but evaded them in favor of personal study. He was heartbroken after the incident, mostly dstraught over his loss of progress, believing he was getting too old too quickly, terrified he wouldn't find what he'd been searching for.
In modern day, Ethan continues his efforts in finding a specific radioactive entity.
- Looks up to the achievements of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
- Likes sour candy.
- Puts vinegar in his coffee for "health reasons."
