Harvey and Mizuko have been betrothed since they were young children in one of the last acts made by Harvey’s mother before she passed away. Their marriage was meant to be a symbol of unity and harmony between Hoenn and Johto, though their relation has been anything but as the two constantly bickered and fought, Harvey considering his new bride’s manners and temperament unbecoming of a lady of the palace. The marriage and relationship in general has improved somewhat since the birth of their daughter; the two finally coming to an understanding of mutual respect… most of the time.
Through an arranged marriage between nations, Mizuko was paired with Harvey as a symbol of unity. They do not often see eye to eye and spend a lot of time apart. They have gotten a little closer after having their daughter Lizzy. Mizy does not find Harvey very approachable and has tried being more friendly with him but it usually just frustrates her.
Lizzy is the apple of Harvey’s eye, the light of his life and considered the best thing that has ever happened to him. Harvey absolutely adores Lizzy and believes that she can do no wrong. He is very forward when it comes to encouraging her to pursue her dreams… so long as they relate to her studies or her career. While not an emotional or open man, he tries his best to understand his daughter’s feelings, though he struggles with trying to get his more positive sentiments across.
Lizzy loves her father dearly and tries hard to live up to his expectations by studying hard, though she’s been relatively shielded from the majority of the obligations members of royalty would be expected to perform. She enjoys going through the more intellectual side of her studies with him, especially topics related to physics or engineering as they’re Harvey’s specialist subjects. However, she often hides most aspects of her personal/private life away from him out of fear of rejection or of upsetting the delicate balance the household has managed to achieve. She understands the pressure that the both of them are under as royalty to uphold the family name, but she often worries about what will happen when Harvey passes the mantel on to her.
Ferry is probably the closest thing Harvey has to an actual friend, even though (like most of his relationships) it hasn’t always been the friendliest due to Harvey’s belligerent attitude. Even so, Harvey admires Ferry’s ability to set other people at ease and connect with them (though he would never admit it) and is envious of his perfect seeming family life.
Ferry has known Harvey since he was assigned as his royal bodyguard when he was a young lad and has seen him grow into the grizzled, grouchy monarch he is today. He feels a great empathy towards him, though he does recognise that Harvey has developed a lot of self-destructive tendencies despite his efforts to steer him away from such. The two are friendly, though since leaving his position in the guard for his family, the two have drifted apart.
