Feredir van t'Velde's Links
Ferry has been in love with Camille since the two first set eyes on each other at the Thornbrooke’s flower shop – even though he was supposed to be buying flowers for another date at the time! Though Camille resisted his early attempts to woo her, he eventually managed to win her over with his honest charm and the two have been insufferable lovebirds ever since. He is fully supportive of his wife’s career and has even found his own transition from royal guard to househusband highly enjoyable.
Camille fell head over heels in love with Ferry from the start. At first, she was cautious as he was a bit of a playboy and was worried that he may leave her behind after finding someone new. They soon married and started a family, Ferry taking on the role of house husband while Camille pursues her fencing career. After all this time, she wonders why she had doubts about him. They rarely argue and spend lots of time with the kids and each other, loving every moment spent together.
Baird is a constant thorn in Ferry’s side. Ferry has always been confused by Baird’s low opinion of him and resents his interference in his marriage, even though he and Camille have been happily married for many years. He finds Baird arrogant and shallow and is one of the very few people who Ferry will irritate at any given opportunity, often leading to some chastising from Camille.
Baird has always disapproved of Feredir from the start of the relationship. He believes that Camille could do way better with a different significant other and that Ferry is an old creep. Even after several children, Baird's mood has not changed. The two can be seen sneering and hissing insults at each other.
Ferry and Iestyn are cousins but, much like Iestyn’s relationship with the majority of the van t’Velde family, there is little love lost between them. They used to be very close when they were teenagers, but something happened while they were both serving during the Great War that ruined the relationship. Ferry refuses to speak about it or Iestyn, even to Camille.
Iestyn and Ferry haven’t seen eye to eye for decades. Iestyn feels aggrieved that the van t’Veldes adopted an outsider into their cosy family, even though he was related to them by blood and they never lifted a finger to help him as a child. Despite that, he and Ferry had a good relationship as teens, with Iestyn even managing to convince Ferry to sign up for the military. What happened after, neither will say.
Ferry has known Harvey since he was assigned as his royal bodyguard when he was a young lad and has seen him grow into the grizzled, grouchy monarch he is today. He feels a great empathy towards him, though he does recognise that Harvey has developed a lot of self-destructive tendencies despite his efforts to steer him away from such. The two are friendly, though since leaving his position in the guard for his family, the two have drifted apart.
Ferry is probably the closest thing Harvey has to an actual friend, even though (like most of his relationships) it hasn’t always been the friendliest due to Harvey’s belligerent attitude. Even so, Harvey admires Ferry’s ability to set other people at ease and connect with them (though he would never admit it) and is envious of his perfect seeming family life.
