A little bit of a flirt, a little bit of a softie, a whole lot of trouble, Rio’s a bit of a lovable menace. As a shapeshifter vampire, Rio takes "walk on the wild side" a little too literally - straining the thin line between getting too close to humans and overthrowing the carefully constructed veil that conceals all monsterkind from the human race.
Rio's feelings about his humanity are very difficult, he clings to it despite his flippant and laid back attitude towards the human population. Deep down, he suffers from the anguish he feels over being a monster and desperately wishes he could be like the people that walk in the sun. He simultaneously pities and envies the humans, wanting to protect the defenseless blood bags and frequently risks exposure by his eating habits - feeding almost elusively on animals and blood donations stolen from the city's numerous local blood banks.

Not much is known about his past, or how or whom turned him - but he has disclosed small amounts of details in passing to people he trusts.
Currently, he resides in New Orleans where he lives as a conman, a criminal, scum of the earth - they're all about right. As far as job description goes, he masquerades as an exorcist and beast hunter affiliated with the church, which puts him both in the good graces of silly humans - and on the last nerve of most monsters.
