Midelle is a holy alchemist who visits the capitol to collect her pension. Sometimes she is invited to the royal court to watch their entertainment; Bita is the Court Jester. She practices outlawed magic for the eyes of the public to witness and patronize.
An attempt was made for conversation, followed quickly by a cold shoulder.
They only thing they agree on right now is to bicker.

They are the opposite of each other in beliefs; Bita holds onto the Old Way and Midelle refuses to see outside of the confines of Alchemy.
Perhaps Midelle pities Bita, that is, until the later opens her mouth.
Bita would rather be a court jester than to become an Alchemist.
