It isn't uncommon for the royal mage to change his form. Sometimes he simply does it to throw others off their game and manipulate them. It... doesn't help that he discovered this form by pure accident. A magical mishap occurred and it took him weeks to change back. Now hes learned how to shift back and forth at will with a small assistance of magic.
