Story

Arc One

Ambrose was born to Artemis and Marceline Castillo. His Father didn't know his Mother's bloodline was cursed so he left upon Ambrose's birth. Ambrose was raised by his Mother and loved her very much. However, she couldn't afford to keep him and herself alive and decided it was best to take him to an orphanage for him to survive. Being a tiefling, he didn't get along with the other children or staff and left at 16. He became involved in petty crime and got caught up in serious business. However, the Church of Life saved him. Having nothing else to live for, he threw himself into his faith and became a priest.

Arc Two

Ambrose was exploited by his church, shaping him into a ruthless zealot. He believed wholeheartedly in the things he was told. One day, he was taken to a planet by his mentor to convert the locals. He and his mentor discovered that the statues they had worshipped as protectors of their town were actually the party, sealed in stone. They reawakened the party and took them on their ship. However, their ship was attacked by resistance fighters and Ambrose was taken captive. However, while in captivity, he found out that the resistance he was taught to hate welcomed him with open arms. He began to doubt his faith (and develop a crush on the resistance leader's oldest daughter oops). In his dreams, his Goddess visited him and saw that he was losing faith. Ambrose accepted the judgment of his Goddess even when being punished, and his magic was taken and he was branded in his sleep. The brand on his arm marks him as a target for one of her angels, abominations that consume souls and destroy everything around them.

Arc Three

Ambrose travelled with the party to a planet where the demons of the Nine Hells took refuge after the Goddess destroyed their original home. While exploring ways to get back his magic, a lizardfolk convinced him to be carried way to The Pit. He was thrown into a pit outside of town. In the Pit, he had to succeed every saving throw in a row or else he would perish. The party found him after the crowd dispersed and thought he died. However, Ambrose crawled out of the Pit transformed. He was taller, his appearance was altered severely, and he was imbued with wild magic. Ambrose went from a cleric to a wild mage sorcerer.

Notes

  • I didn't mean to make him so aggressively Italian but I made my bed and now I have to lie in it.
  • Ambrose wasn't very well liked member of the Church. One, because of his horrifying zealous and offputting appearance. Two, because he was often exceptionally gaudy.
  • Ambrose was originally designed to be as creepy to look at as possible. He was meant to evoke the uncanny valley while still looking almost human. I drew inspiration from the Luden Project.
  • Originally, Ambrose was meant to be irredeemable and die. Despite my best efforts, I fell in love with this awful idiot and made him more palatable.
