History

Melanie's past seems shrouded in mystery. She's off-kilter, quietly out of sync with the world around her. Any information gleaned from her reticent countance usually amounts to - she's English and well-educated, she has no family, and she's been working with the supernatural almost all her life. She seems to have a lot of personal issues, and smokes pretty much constantly( whenever she's not drinking). The only person she seems at all close to is an ex-colleague; Sammie Torres. Some years ago Mel just popped up in the city of Girnwood out of nowhere and began working with The Organisation, a company with a background as obscure as her, that mostly deals with the care and policing of the supernatural community. The role of The Organisation is not to hunt down monsters, but home them and help them integrate into society. When a monster decides to act as a monster, however, the mysterious "BCD" (Black Coats Division) to which Mel is assigned is called in. It's hard to arrest a rabid werewolf when it can tear a human body apart like wet tissue paper, but luckily, blackcoats are all people of an unusual temperament who excel at punching monsters in the face.

Relationships

Kevin Donovan

Melanie encountered Kevin Donovan by chance through work, and found out that despite his nervous disposition, he was quite useful. For instance, his ability to reach up high places was a skill she really lacked. From that point on she forcibly barged into his life and would often call him up to help her with work, and his inability to say "no" meant he always did.

Sammie Torres

Half a co-worker and half surrogate family, Sammie is probably the only person who could ever call Mel a friend and mean it. His laid-back and forgiving disposition combined with a basic level of self-respect means he can put up with Mel without allowing her to walk her dainty feet all over him. In turn, she actually seems to have developed an iota of respect for him.
