About
A seductive and quick-witted mercenary from the north, Elliel is a ranger who belongs to a Nomadic family known as the Clan of Storms. Among the bulky, rough-looking warriors of the Clan, Elliel stands out as a refined and subtly delicate face. Their resident pretty girl and a well-known sweet-talker, she often takes the more diplomatic strategies with clients and targets. She specializes in archery, ice traps, and making people fall in love with her, which has earned her the nickname Ice Charmer.
Behind her smoky, confident facade, Elliel’s quite family-oriented and protective of those close to her. (But don’t compare her to a mom, she’s sensitive about aging.)
Story
A runt born into a nursery impoverished by the North West War, Elliel was often neglected by the trainers and bullied by the other young warriors. Because of her short height, meek nature, and feeble constitution, one of the adults at the nursery wanted to make use of her somehow and started to sell her to warriors for sexual services.
Around when she was 13, she was finally adopted out of the nursery by good-hearted mercenaries. She started learning archery and survival skills for a Nomadic lifestyle. Her lack of confidence had a significant reversal in her late teens because of dedicated training and an unexpected refamiliarization with her sexuality. This was when she gained the nickname “Ice Charmer.”

Strengths
- Elliel has a very sharp mind and senses, and her hunter's instincts are aided by fast thinking that can calculate multiple back-up plans on the spot. She later becomes her clan's strategist.
- Ellie's charm is quite infamous, but her social graces aren't limited to deception and seduction. She makes a loyal friend and is very pleasant to talk to, easily falling into the role of a counselor for many people.
- Some would even venture to say she has a maternal or "big sister" type of nature, patiently taking younger people under her wing. Her surprising knack for teaching may be due to the fact Elliel wasn't given many opportunities to learn when she was younger, that she's taken an opposite, nurturing route when it comes to the younger generation.
- Even though she has a reputation for being a heart-breaker, Elliel is pretty romantic and sentimental. Though she usually reserves this tenderness for her family and friends, it can be channeled towards her lovers on occassion.
Weaknesses
- Although she's worked very hard for her fitness, Elliel isn't the strongest Jotun and can be overpowered-- her physical strengths lie more in traversal and escaping.
- Elliel is also illiterate and can't read until Naelia teaches her in her late 20s. Until she learned how, she had a bad habit of being overly defensive about people looking down on her intellect, the result of poor self image.
- She's not a fan of talking about her feelings. She'll listen to anyone else and help them, but she hates the vulnerability in opening up herself. It's sabotaged several of her romantic relationships in the past, which is why she tends to rely on her friend, Yerzhi, for emotional support
- Being the victim of childhood sexual abuse, Elliel has quite a shattered sense of identity. She sometimes can't handle the transition from her sexual experiences to her vanilla persona, and prefers to shut off and over-extend herself sexually. She can put herself in danger when she gets into these mindsets, and even when calm may be triggered by certain body types and odors
Trivia
- She has a warg named Disir and a falcon named Svelya. Disir is an obedient, quiet boy and Svel is a possessive and bitey girl. Elliel spoils both of them
- Although deprived of many traditional Jotun trainings, Elliel did learn how to dance from her father's blood servant, Jiornis. It's one of the few things she truly enjoys and, as a result, innately excells at. In Jotun dance custom, the shorter or more petite dance partner is more acrobatic, often carried by the larger partner. Due to Elliel's smaller frame compared to other elves of her background, she only knows how to dance this part.
- Like all northerners in Ocean of Cycles, Elliel speaks with a Cockney accent. As a personal tic, she tends to start her sentences with "Listen..." or "Look..." when she's annoyed.
- Ellie's voice is feminine and smoky, in a medium range with a light rasp. She likes to hum and sing to herself when she's working. Although it tends to be low and slightly off tune when she can't hit higher notes, there's something soothing and alluring about it all the same.
- The blue jewels that Elliel wears on her thumb and ear rings are gifts from Naelia when they were teenagers. She never expected to run into Nae again as an adult, and had them fashioned into jewelry for her own sentimental reasons. She gets embarrassed when it's brought up.
- Elliel is a mummy's girl and tends to spoil her parent Oorok with riches and accessories she's stolen or gotten as gifts from her admirers. Oorok was the main adult who saved her when she was young and being abused, so her loving feelings for them run deep.
- Her adopted family consists of her two fathers, Kalta and Oorok, and two older siblings, Tovak and Emion.

Inspirations
- Clockwise from upper left:
- D'Artagnan (BBC Musketeers): D'Artagnan was one of the earliest inspirations for Elliel’s story– being the young, romantic one out of a group of older warriors. Luke Pasquilano’s version of D'Art in particular inspired some of her facial tics and mannerisms– the very expressive eyebrows, devil-may-care attitude, tantalizingly open collars, and tendency to lean on any surface in the vicinity. The overall costume design of the show directly inspired her leather armor.
- Shiva (FFX): Shiva’s incarnation in the 10th Final Fantasy was where Elliel’s ice powers and snapping signature came from. Shiva might have also been the inspiration behind Elliel’s unnatural skin color.
- Sgt. Calhoun (Wreck-It Ralph): Although a much sillier character than the others on this board, Calhoun was decisively one of the sparks I needed to develop Elliel into a femme fatale. I was fascinated with Calhoun’s combination of ‘masculine’ facial features with an hourglass body and classic hip sway. I set out to give Elliel a very handsome face and athletic body, but have her carry herself in a sexy, feminine way.
- Thief (Shadow Over Mystara): One of my favorite characters from one of my favorite side scrolling arcade games when I was younger, Thief was my quintessential fantasy archetype for sexy and dangerous rogues. Naturally Elliel is a derivative of the impact this design had on me as a kid.
- Ayuko Hayami (Golden Boy): Although I never watched this anime, I was absolutely enamoured with Ayuko’s design and hairstyle. The brooding yet sensual aura about her absolutely guided the way I illustrate and pose Elliel. I tell my friends this a lot, but I often draw Elliel with the male gaze in mind, head tilted away, eyes avoiding the camera, etc. I think a lot of that came from Ayuko’s character.
- Dark Elf (Lineage II): Not an actual individual character, but Lineage’s dark elves had a big impact on Elliel’s design when it came to the black, wrought iron-like designs they utilized and the, uh, bdsm costuming LOL. The world building in L2 inspired Elliel’s entire culture honestly.
- Ivy Valentine (Soul Calibur): I didn’t notice Ivy’s influence on Elliel’s design until much later, but her whitish-purplish hair– with bangs covering her left eye– and big claw-like gauntlet are undeniable inspirations for Elliel’s silhouette, even if they were subconscious. The general “fan service of the cast” vibe is also there lmao

Naelia
[ Lover | Wife | Blood Master ]
Naelia was Elliel's childhood love; her small, but first relationship that happened under highly unlikely circumstances. Elliel never thought she would run into Naelia again, and she thought even less that the powerful, prejudiced patron she was escorting-- using the fake name of Aena-- would be the same girl. After the shock wears off and a lot of heated questions are exchanged, Elliel slowly comes to feel that fate had brought them back together. Her undeniable pull towards Nae, romantically, sexually, and emotionally, were completely different each time she met her, but immense all the same. After the two go through several life-threatening situations together, Elliel decides to form a blood bond with Naelia, swearing her life and loyalty to her. In their thirties, the two get married through Nomadic tradition for Elliel's family. Elliel calls Naelia "Love," "Master," and sometimes "Baby" which was picked up from Nae's colloquialism.
Yerzhi
[ Queer Platonic Partner | Best Friend | Confidant ]
Elliel met Yerzhi when she was just becoming an adult and paving her own path as a mercenary. The two were partnered for a job by a stroke of luck, and Ellie immediately looked up to him. She could never have predicted how similar their childhood experiences would be, but once they connected through their traumas, the two became inseperable. Yerzhi was the first one Elliel truly opened up to, and she thinks of him as the one person she can't live without. The two share a very deep platonic bond that branches from playful bantering to serious talks to physical affection, and Elliel often jokes that Zhi is her real lover. Elliel lovingly calls Yerzhi "Ugly bastard," or "Boyfriend."
Aedre
[ Little Sister Figure ]
During an extended stay in the southwestern realms, Elliel ran into Aedre, a tiny vigilante in the making. Aedy's curious personality easily won Ellie over, and her sisterly nature kicked in, often entertaining Aedre with stories and tricks of the trade. When Ellie found out Aedre was orphaned and looking for her father, her sympathy seized her and she ended up taking Aedre along in her travels. Aedy proved to be a very quick learner, and highly entertaining because of her unique outlook on life, and Elliel is highly protective of her. She likes to call Aedre "Aedy" or "Birdy."
Kalta
[ Adopted Father ]
Kalta is Elliel's archery teacher by Jotun terms, but by Nomadic standards, he is thoroughly her father. He adores and scolds her as a birth father would, and Elliel respects and frustrates him. She struggles to meet his expectations sometimes, resulting in a rebellious streak, but she also knows deep down that she's his problem child because they're so similar.
Oorok
[ Adopted Parent | Mother ]
Oorok is Elliel's adored mum. When Ellie was a child and being forced into sex work, Oorok was the only adult who she felt safe with. Oorok protected her, fed her, and nurtured her back to health. In her adult life, she tries her best to spoil them back, bringing home expensive jewelry and flowers for them whenever she has the chance. Elliel openly admits to being a "mummy's girl," and she wants nothing more than to make Oorok's old age comfortable. Most of her domestic chores are in the kitchen with Oorok, cooking and having heartfelt talks.
Tovak
[ Older Adopted Sibling ]
The first of Kalta and Oorok's adopted kids, Tovak looks after Elliel and Emion very diligently despite their social naivety. Elliel looks up to them quite a bit, and respects Tovak's experience on the battlefield. Despite them being so large and strong, Elliel never felt threatened by Tovak's presence-- perhaps positively biased for Ogres due to Oorok's coddling. Elliel often relies on Tovak's fighting savvy, and in return helps them a lot with social interactions. When Tovak gets married, Elliel ends up coaching them through the steps of wooing and maintaining a relationship. She finds her big sibling quite endearing, really.
Emion
[ Older Adopted Brother ]
Maybe because Ellie and Emi are closer in age-- or because of Emi's hand in helping nurse her back to health-- Elliel sometimes feels a little too vulnerable around Emion. They bicker more than either does with Tovak, but they also share the same sense of dry, sarcastic humor. Elliel tends to bottle her emotions and Emion is a nag, so the two often have little annoyed spats with each other. Despite it all, Elliel understands they both have very dark childhoods and empathizes and cares for him deeply.
Demirra
[ Former Lover ]
During Elliel's extended venture into sex work in the Gnome States, she met Demirra, another escort. Dede was everything Elliel wasn't, soft, earnest, in touch with her emotions. Elliel had several sexual lovers until this point, but Demirra was the first person she felt romantic feelings towards since her teenage years. But she wasn't ready for the vulnerability that comes with love, and eventually Elliel self-sabatoged the relationship. Although the two are separated now, their relationship isn't foul or sour, just strained with pleasantries and wistful glances.
