Clemence Rosevelt Cook is a playable character in Fire Emblem Awakening and one of the main three protagonists of the game, serving as one of Kara's three Avatar characters.

Profile

Clemence doesn't remember anything concrete about her father, Validar, or the mother whose name and face she has long since forgotten, or anything concrete about her life or the person she was until Saint Chrom, just like something in the old Grimleal texts, gave her new life.

My plan is to take notes as I play on what her role in stuff is and what she's thinking as I play!

Personality

Clemence is a quiet one, but that certainly doesn't mean nothing's going on upstairs. In fact, she's a very deep thinker - sometimes to her own deficit, thinking herself into anxiety and misery. Coming from a background of mostly-repressed childhood trauma, grooming and abuse, she often has a hard time relating to the colorful cast of heroes she's found herself thrust into. She prefers to move slowly in all ways - battle, trust, friendship and love - possibly more slowly than most people. Nonetheless, she loves her friends dearly and finds herself hopelessly devoted to them.

A perfectionist at heart, Clemence also has very meticulous, exact hobbies. She’s been known to stay up all night, composing sheet music for a piano she doesn't even own, or sewing little dolls with perfectly-planned proportions. What this perfect little cocktail of sleep deprivation, overworking and an already-existing predisposition to dissociation and mental instability leads to is a long-standing history of horrific nightmares (actually - more about those later), even the occasional hallucination.

... There is a terrible burden of guilt on Clemence's shoulders, and she isn't entirely sure what she did.

• Gangrel - [begins near the end of the game, but sometime after his apparent death, he begins sending out letters to connect with someone while he's at his absolute lowest, going by the pseudonym "dog". he and clemence become penpals without even knowing who each other is, because clemence also picks a pseudonym for his own privacy/safety, "raven". once they meet again in person on the high seas and gangrel is recruited, they don't immediately recognize each other as their penpals, but once they do, a strange unspoken intimacy is in their relationship, that only grows deeper until they're inseparable and desperately in love.]

(BAD END - basically she gives into the Evil Dwagon and does evil bad things forever)

(GOOD END - clemence ends up as chrom's right-hand man to the throne, remaining his best friend and closest advisor until they both die of old age, and never marries. ultimately she feels happy and content with life but a little unfulfilled, like she wishes she could have done more)

Clemence and Gangrel

(BEST END - clemence and gangrel retire in obscurity after the world is saved, officially having morgan. the idea is gangrel doesnt end up a king again in literally the exact country he tore up and traumatized bc thats a little uhh LOL but his drive to be a leader leads him to forming some sort of like. town or something where the poor and homeless of plegia live and support each other, and he and clemence are sort of the - mayors of that town i guess??? its a work in progress but ideally an improvement. this township and plegia are considered 'close allies' politically and help each other out where possible, but the town isnt like. a Kingdom. or idk maybe the canon ending where he's king again will feel less weird when i play it. either way Good Things Happen. also they both get therapy for the trauma and issues they both have and are good parents)

Etymology

Clemence, a feminine variant on the masculine name Clement, means "mild and merciful," and while it originates with the French pronunciation Cleh-mahns, this Clemence is pronounced Cleh-menss. Rosevelt is a Dutch surname meaning "rose field." Cook is derived from Old English and literally refers to cooks.

Trivia

• Her last name is a joke on a few different levels. Initially, I tried to input "COCK" as a temporary name for her, so I could finish the character creation process on my partner's copy of FE:A while I waited for my own copy to arrive. Of course, that came up with some "Probably don't do that" screen Then I tried "COK", same thing happened. Then, giggling over something that was hilarious to specifically only me in that moment, I put in "COok", and then my partner and I started referencing Too Many Cooks.
