Appearance
amaretto stands 6’5”, with dark skin and dark red hair he keeps short. ey styles eir hair to cover his right eye, although it’s not for any particular reason. his eyes are a bright red, and have X markings across each iris that almost seem to glow. his teeth are unusually sharp. his body type is more top heavy, with broader shoulders and a narrower waist. ey’s fairly solidly built in general. in terms of body language, ey is fairly restrained. having worked a customer service job for a long time, he’s good at hiding unpleasant emotions. he’s very purposeful with his motions, and is often seen with a polite smile.
eir fashion sense leans towards dark red and grey palettes. his bartender uniform consists of a button down shirt, vest with tails, tie, and slacks. the tall boots and gloves are his own addition. he prefers to keep his hands covered at all times, and has multiple pairs of gloves he cycles through. eir off duty outfits still lean more formal, with button down shirts and khakis instead of sweatshirts and jeans. he wears glasses for fashion not necessity.
Personality
in general, amaretto has a subdued nature. it’s difficult to get eir excited or furious, and for the most part eir emotions are difficult to read. when working, amaretto pulls on a customer service persona and is more outwardly cheery and affable to others, but only really on a superficial level. really, he finds it difficult to connect with others, and takes refuge in polite niceties. outside of work, amaretto isn’t mean, but is more blunt and direct. ey is careful to not come off as abrasive, but absolutely prefers to be concise with his words. he finds socializing outside of work to be incredibly exhausting, and with the few people he would consider friends (read: the few people who are persistent enough to keep in contact with him) it’s not unusual for him to go days without talking to them.
some people might consider that level of solitude to be maddening, but for amaretto ey gets ample social contact while working at eir bar. while he doesn’t particularly feel emotionally invested in others, he is wildly nosy and likes to hear people talk about themselves purely for the informational aspect of it. being someone who has lived thousands of years, the day to day minutia of humans is one of the few things that’s still entertaining to him. even if he doesn’t really feel sympathy for someone, he’s good at pretending he is, mainly to keep people at the bar talking to him. there’s also the underlying motive of serving as one of florentino’s outside contacts that makes it imperative to em to be a good conversationalist, even if eir heart isn’t in it.
ey has an iron-clad memory, which is both a pro and a con. on one hand, ey finds it easy to remember things someone said to him off hand, and keeps track of errant internal thoughts with ease. at the same time, the times that ey feels like ey has made a social flub sticks with em for far longer than the average person. ey sometimes stays up at night overanalyzing any perceived flaws of eirs. it’s easier for him to dissociate from his worries when he’s active or distracted, so he spends a lot of his free time either exercising, watching movies, or reading books. he’s not much for video games, though.
he can sometimes come off as condescending, although it’s more so a result of feeling detached from others rather than anything intentional. ey’s honest, but not one to divulge information unless asked for it, and oftentimes steers conversations away from eirself. overall, ey is fairly detached from his emotions. he’s pretty good at pretending he isn’t, though.
Backstory
like other quasi-deities, amaretto popped into existence fully formed one fateful moment. amaretto spent a long, long amount of time jumping between universes, attempting to find the one where he belonged. ey didn’t have any interest in spending time in universes where ey didn’t belong, as the thought of being completely ineffectual in the world was terrifying.
eventually he found monstrucatus, and realized that was his home universe. he settled in to the town, using the knowledge ey had gained over the many years exploring various worlds to quickly position himself at one of the local bars. over time, he moved up in the ranks to becoming a co-owner of the bar, but still regularly worked shifts because the only thing ey still desired was more information.
ey met floren online, and the two bonded over their mutual interest in information gathering, though for floren it was a job rather than a hobby. amaretto agreed to provide information to floren as an outside source, mostly for the fun of it than anything else.
Extra
| hates pain. it’s one of the few things that can make him cry | is intersex |
| magic is powered by drinking alcohol. | but, ey is a lightweight and lacks control when drunk, so it usually ends up being just as dangerous for em as for eir opponents |
| hasn’t had any alcohol since settling into monstrucatus for fear of accidentally teleporting out of the universe | picked his name because he thought it would be ironic |
| smells like sawdust and wood polish | immortal but is aging very, very slowly |
Important Relationships
lettie
amaretto and lettie are acquainted. lettie is probably the person amaretto is closest to in monstrucatus, on virtue of lettie being persistent in trying to befriend amaretto. amaretto treats lettie politely, but there have been times at the end of shifts where his patience runs through and he is more brusque with the other man. for what it’s worth, he goes along with lettie when he chats with amaretto at work, and will engage in conversation with it when lettie greets em out of the workplace, which is warmer than amaretto is with some of his bar patrons.
florentino samora
florentino and amaretto are acquainted through the internet. amaretto isn’t particularly internet literate, so he looks to floren for help whenever he has a question about something online. for amaretto, he purely is looking for information because he’s nosy, so he asks florentino to dig up dirt on rowdy/unpleasant patrons. amaretto sometimes wishes that florentino would lighten up a little bit, as amaretto isn’t taking this exchange of information nearly as seriously as floren is.
