Profile

Early Life

Sage was born the eldest child of House Lécuyer, a minor house in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus and in service under House Gautier. The house’s history was deeply tied to that of Gautier House, having been closely allied and befriended since the early days of the Kingdom. Having been once been Imperial nobility, the family grew to be staunch supporters of the Gautier Household, holding close ties for decades following a friendship between two heads of the houses. However, House Lécuyer came to true power following their assistance in breaking a Sreng Siege of the land on which they and many other commoners called home. When the Margrave’s forces began to fail in suppressing the siege, House Lécuyer was able to unite the common people to assist in the suppression and secure their home’s safety. Following this, House Lécuyer was granted the land which they fought so passionately to protect, forming the county of Lécuyer and strengthening the bonds between House Lécuyer and House Gaiter even further, remaining as such for lifetimes.

Despite being the eldest child of the house, Sage’s inheritance is steeped in chaos, controversy, and stresses dating back to the moment of her conception. While Sage’s father was Count Lécuyer, her mother was not the Countess. Sage was the daughter of a woman of common birth whom the Count had loved and very well intended to marry, despite the fact this would have defied his own family’s wishes and ruined his arranged wedding. The woman, however, insisted they await Sage’s birth before marriage, despite meaning this would have had Sage born out of wedlock, much to the Count’s confusion. Regardless, he complied and was overjoyed at the birth of his daughter, no matter her social standing. Unfortunately, Sage was not born bearing a Crest. Upon learning this fact, Sage’s mother became disgusted and frustrated with her child and her lover, beginning to show true face and intent. She had been seeking a child not for love, but for status, and believed a crest bearing child would be her only true way to power, despite the Count’s willingness to engage with her regardless. Disappointed and despising her lover and daughter’s “failures” she abandoned them both. The count was heartbroken at her deceptions and changes, yet found security in his beloved daughter, coming to love her regardless of his lover’s feelings, her status as a bastard child or her crestless existence. He wanted to do everything he could to see her taken care of, believing he really had failed her, shouldering most of the blame upon himself despite his lover’s abandonment. Following this incident, the Count was given a second chance to his previously arranged marriage, one which he accepted in the hopes of forming a respectable home, his new priority being taking care of his growing family rather than seeking a loving relationship. The pair were married, and it was not long until they were expecting children of their own.

Despite his attempts to rectify his wrongdoings and provide a safe place for Sage, it became evident that her life would not be an easy one, regardless of his attempts to protect her as much as he could. Sage’s illegitimacy and state as a child born of wedlock was not one that was hidden completely, despite the Count’s attempts. However, Sage’s father attempted to make up for the issues as he could, often showering his eldest daughter with love, affection, and favoritism, marking that. Following the birth of the count’s legitimate children, the issue of Sage’s birth and her claim to the house came to question as Sage’s step-mother began to fear for her and her children’s security as the favoritism Sage was shown began to forge whispers in courts as to whether the Crestless bastard child would become the houses, legitimate heir. She feared what would become of herself and her children should Sage succeed as the legitimate heir of the house, and worried about the continued scandals and rumors Sage brought down upon them. As a result, the Countess became somewhat scornful of the child and, while never exactly cruel, made Sage feel unwelcome and, even at times, as a mistake.

Sage didn’t understand it all at first, not even aware of her father’s past with her mother. She had always known the countess was not her mother, but never understood what had happened to her mother, and, as she aged, began begging her father for answers. Continuing to shoulder the blame for Sage’s status and fearing harming the child with the truth of her mother’s cruelty and abandonment, the Count told Sage that it was his fault Sage’s mother was gone, having sent her away for her own failure to provide a child with a crest to secure the house and wanting to avoid scandals associated with their affair. He was unwilling to let his daughter think ill of her mother yet equally willing to let her think ill of him if it kept her safe. Growing with this knowledge, Sage became somewhat resentful of her father and began to question whether his affections truly came from love or from pity.

Feeling unwanted and unwelcome because of her step-mother’s fear and scorn, a burden because of her status as a bastard and lack of a crest, and like a mistake because of her father’s informing her of the story of her birth and her mother leaving, Sage came to feel trapped in her home, a kink in the cog of a picture-perfect family. Because of this state of mind. As a result, she often sought to spend as much time away from her home as possible, becoming reclusive or depressed when left at the estate for too long. Seeing her state of mind, the Count tried his best to see that Sage was occupied as often as possible, encouraging her hobbies, seeing that she received the best studies he could and even indulging in her fascination with magic as time went on. She proved to be an intelligent and talented child, yet remained humble in her existence given the very nature of it, choosing kindness over anger despite her every right to it and rarely asking anything of those around her, being something of a quiet child. Despite her accomplishments even from a young age, her father feared for her lack of true socialization, aware that Sage was very reclusive from the world around her due to her upbringing and history.

In response to Sage’s reclusiveness and lack of socialization for her age, Count Lécuyer sought to rectify this issue himself, seeking aid from long-lasting friendships. It wasn’t long until a seven-year-old Sage was introduced officially to those of the Gautier household and, specifically, Sylvain. The two households had always been in close relations to one another and had intended for the children to meet in time. In addition, the talks of arrangements of marriage between the two next heirs of the houses had also been considered, yet found themselves put on hold due to the controversy surrounding Sage’s birth. Regardless, it was agreed that a healthy relationship between the children of the houses would be a valuable asset.

Despite having met in passing in the past, this was the first time the pair of children had officially found themselves introduced. While Sage was somewhat shy about their interactions at first, it wasn’t long until the pair had hit it off. Sylvain, perceptive as he was despite both being children, was able to recognize Sage’s ability but also her pains, noticing her stresses dealing with crests and the nobility and the condescension due to her birth situation, and felt sorely for the younger girl. In return, Sage was able to recognize the struggles Sylvain attempted to conceal, as well as the constant abuses he suffered from the weights of responsibility on his shoulders and attacks from his brother. The pair felt sympathy for one another as a result, and formed a very cordial friendship as a result, often sharing grievances and leaning on one another for support as they grew. The pair never spoke of their own issues yet always were there to shoulder the others. It was also around this time that Sage grew to know Felix, Ingrid and Dimitri through Sylvain, forging friendships she was never aware she could. These relationships helped Sage to break out of her previous shell, showcasing her personality as a doting older sister figure with a humble and open outlook on life.

As time went on, Sage continued to throw herself into her studies and into activities such as training to keep herself occupied and distracted from the world around her, becoming a talented young mage and a cultured and well-learned young woman in a short amount of time. Her true colors shined through in every way as she persisted in life despite its fighting against her. Even with the deck stacked against her, Sage proved to be nothing if not the picture of not just eloquence and perseverance, but also humble, compassionate and kind to a fault due to her experiences in life, tackling everything thrown at her with a grace, poise and open mind that shielded her from the looks of scorn and judgment she was subjected to even as a child, keeping her head up and never asking for anything. It was hard to see through her mask, as she hid her pains well. She was everything an accomplished young woman should have been, yet still was ever lacking, constantly reminded of her existence as a crestless bastard heir. The older she grew, the more often these reminders came to surface.

As Sage grew older, the strains of dealing with the family inheritance grew, the family and the county knowing full well that Sage was very likely to inherit despite her disadvantages. Because of this, the tensions in her home continued to grow more intense, her step-mother becoming borderline hostile and her siblings feeling the strains of pressures for living up to what Sage was to further their own advantages with their crests. Even further, the pressures of marriage began to find themselves upon Sage as she aged, the family becoming ever aware that, regardless of her inheritance, her marriage would massively impact the family’s fortunes and relations. Questions came up in relation to Sage’s possible marriage into the Gautier household, yet were continuously put on hold or directed to Sage’s younger sister in preference, as there were still fears as to the controversy such a marriage might bring about. Sage never brought this up with Sylvain, unsure how he might have felt and fearing rejection from her closest friend in any form even if it was his choice, to begin with. The questions never ceased, however, as many attempts were made to find a place for Sage, whom many considered to be a jagged piece of a perfect puzzle.

Sage began to find herself feeling scared, unsure and even in levels of danger, no longer safe in her own home. She felt trapped, however, by the weight of expectations as they countered every bad word she had heard. Desperate for a way out, Sage went to Sylvain, confiding her fears and begging for help for the first time of her life. Wanting to see that his friend was safe, Sylvain suggested Sage consider the Officer’s Academy with him and others, aware that her prowess and name alone would carry enough weight to help her succeed there and find her safe haven away from home. Believing this to be the one true way out for herself, Sage went to her father, who, wanting to see to it that Sage would be safe and happy, and thinking that the academy would be good for her regardless of what path she chose, allowed her admission to the Academy.

With the approval from her father, Sage prepared to leave home, believing it would be healthiest for herself and her family. The Lécuyer family would have time to sort out its issues without the elephant in the room and Sage would have time to figure out her own path in life, desperate to find some feeling of meaning and belonging amongst her friends and fellow students. She separated herself from her family following her departure, rarely bringing herself to speak of her family to outsiders for her own personal reasons and desperately trying to find her own path, not one that would be forced to her and not one she would be driven onto in alternate. While Sage wasn’t sure where life would lead her, she was certain that there was no better way to find out than to take a risk, knowing full well others would help her along the way as she would do in return. She had no idea how life-changing her choice would be.

Personality

Able to carry herself well, too many people, Sage is often considered to be a very poised and well-bred young woman. Sage carries herself with an air of grace rarely found even among the nobility, her poise and eloquence often being described as almost ethereal at times. She is well-mannered and rarely seems to find herself slipping from this, applying herself strongly to high society's standards for proper manners and speech. Even in the face of those who would condemn her existence, Sage is able to remain poised and tall, rarely faltering in the face of conflict and remaining upright in many institutions that would require it. Sage is very learned in both academic and social understandings and is generally able to navigate society with ease despite preferring her studies to socialization. She is very perceptive and able to read the people and situations around her somewhat easily, though she rarely speaks on her observations or even intentions. Academically, Sage is renowned for her intellect and observational skills, achieving success in academics and magic with relative ease, even as a child.

Despite, or even perhaps because of, the life she was raised in, often being subjected to cruel words and harsh treatment, the luxuries she had been afforded as one of noble birth and the eloquence with which she carries herself, Sage is nothing if not a humble and open-minded young woman, trying her best to avoid any airs of superiority (even if this is difficult due to her aura). due to hr exposures to the reality of life at an early age, Sage found herself humbled to a fault in her existence, not always in a good way, but enough to enable her to see the value of life itself and never to overstep into the boundaries and lives of others. She holds a very open outlook on life and never bases anything on appearances. She abhors the idea of assuming anything about a person without getting to know them deeper, forming her opinions only after exposure to others. she also tends to detest the entitled of the world, beliving very powerfully that the only things someone is entitled to are their lives and their deaths. She isn't afraid to confront those she feels devalue the lives of others or even themselves.

Sage is, in addition to being very open-minded and observant, a very kind-hearted young woman, something that may or may not come as a shock to those around her. Many would assume her to be angry or frustrated with her role in life, yet she takes it in stride and uses her experiences as a method to teach herself and others levels in compassion and kindness, treating everyone with the same respect she would want to be treated with until they prove themselves undeserving of such. Sage has been known to keep a very close eye on those close to her or under her care and radiates a mother or big sister like energy. She values the lives of those around her and is nothing if not careful with handling others, aware of what it is like to be traumatized, even if such trauma is hidden. She is good at getting to the depths of people, able to see past masks and flowery words used to hide fear and true emotion. she is very gentle in her interactions with others and holds an air of pleasantness many seem to find lacking in the world. Her natural charm and charisma carry over from her societal elegance, and those who get to know her generally see a more relaxed persona than what she usually fronts, becoming laxer in her mannerisms and language, sometimes even allowing herself the permissions to be "inappropriate" from time to time when she becomes tired enough. It has been noted she becomes rather sassy at times, yet deals with this sass in wit and eloquence, often twisting people's insults and words against them and subtly calling out people's inappropriate or rude behavior. Her wit tends to be subtle yet very powerful in reception, often either confusing or dumbfounding those around her with her poise and sarcasm. Whether this is an asset or an issue is debatable depending on who one might talk to about it. Regardless, she is not afraid of confrontation on this level if it means defending someone from reprehensible treatments or petty actions.

Perhaps Sage's largest downfall lies in her own self-worth and inability to truly express herself. Due to her experiences with existing as little more than a nuisance to most, Sage became conditioned at a young age to feel out of place, jagged, and like an unwanted burden and, although she has learned to cope and was treated kindly enough by most, this is something she has dealt with her entire life. To try and limit her burden and make herself more useful, Sage elected to throw herself at growing her mind and body, resulting in her talents with knowledge and magic and even socially to a level, but never really learned how to deal with her own feelings. As a result, she bored herself up, deciding it was better to hide her emotions and thoughts on herself rather than let them loose. As a result, she rarely complains about her situations in life, tends to let herself be used and feels an inability to rebel against what seems to be her "fate". Despite her passionate drive to protect others and uplift them from the world around them and even themselves, Sage lacks the ability to do this for herself, and often lives through others as a result, becoming a classic example of the phrase "The loneliest people are the kindest. The saddest people smile the brightest. The most damaged people are the wisest. All because they don't wish to see anyone else suffer the way they did.” She also tends to be rather resentful of the state of affairs of the Kingdom's divide between the poor and the noble, and the dependence upon crests, feeling that, if things were different, she might have been wanted or valued as more than just an object and seen as more than a burden, knowing others suffer the same feeling. While by no means a pushover, Sage is arguably a very damaged young woman, yet hides it all well behind an iron forged mask, quivering in regrets, sadness, and uncertainty, desperately wanting to pave her own path in life and yet too afraid to remove it in fear of the world and taking a risk for herself.

Elegant, open-minded, kind-hearted and emotionally damaged, Sage seeks to find a path for herself and prays that one day, she'll have the strength to see herself as more than what others have dragged her down to be.

Overall

As defined by her years of private training, Sage excels in all kinds of magic and is a glass cannon damage dealer. With skills in both Faith and Reason, Sage has at her disposal a large arsenal of damage and status effects to inflict upon her enemies and effects and healing to offer to her allies. Sage tends to be able to also withstand harder hits than most mage classes, yet sacrifices luck and strength in doing so. Despite these hindrances, Sage is very able with a sword and is able to deal extra damage while wielding the weapon. this leads to one of Sage's largest assets being her versatility in growth, being able to pick up any magic class and adapt to most combatants. Sage's greatest weaknesses lie in Axe, Heavy Armor, and Riding, keeping her away from most tank heavy roles. However, Sage can overcome her weakness in Riding, it being her budding talent. She overcomes this obstacle, it opens the door for her to adapt further to classes such as the Dark Knight. Sage also tends to be unique in her resistance to ranged attacks, also having a higher avoidance rate than many characters. Sage's personal ability is known as Masked Passions, and enables her to heal adjacent allies for 20% of the damage she does each turn.

Sage and Sylvain - [ Azure Moon ]

Following the conclusion of the War, Sage elected to relinquish her claims to House Lécuyer to her younger brother Layton. Following this, Sage's Step-Mother, Audrey requested that the woman keep in close touch with the family, asking for Sage's house in guiding the household to a new age, knowing it was what her father would have wanted, and what Sage deserved. The relations between Sage and her family began to grow, and old wounds finally began to heal as she and her family finally found themselves working hard to look to a brighter future. It was not long after Sage's relinquishment that Sylvain announced his engagement to Sage, assuring her he meant every word of his proposal and wasn't about to let her think he was going to let her getaway. Despite his former philandering ways, Sylvain proved to be a devoted and loving husband to Sage, cutting his flirting ways immediately following his decision to marry Sage. With his wife's counsel, the new Margrave Gautier was able to improve relations with the Sreng people, and thereby convince the local nobles that Relics and Crests were no longer an absolute requirement for survival. Due to their efforts, they went down in history as an extraordinary lord and lady. Sylvain proved to be more than this, however, showing to be a gentle and devoted husband and father, building a home of warmth and happiness surrounded by some 10 children, biological, adopted, with and without Crests. The pair swore in their childhood that they would be together forever, and kept this promise for decades, finally fulfilling it on the day of their deaths.

Etymology

Sageis a femenine name derived from the Latin word of the same name meaning "wise."

Iria is the Portugese form of the feminine Greek name Eirene meaning "peace". This was the name of a 7th-century saint (also known as Irene) from Tomar in Portugal. This is also the name of an ancient town in Galicia (now a district of Padrón).

Lécuyer is a French surname derived from écuyer, meaning "squire, shield-bearer".

Trivia

  • Sage is deathly afraid of horses. While she can handle being around them when needed, she tends to keep her distance in her off-time and avoids the stables frequently. This is reflected by her weakness in riding. She seems to do better after the time-skip, however, with Yvette's encouragement.
