Growing up in a very tight-knit community, Spinel is very skeptical of those around her. It takes time for her to trust non-gems, so she often does any heavy-lifting duties all by herself. She finds it easiest to get along with humans and magic-users, as they remind her of the wizard who gave her species life.
To those who have gained her trust, Spinel is willing to put herself on the line to protect them.
Gems hadn't always been a living race. They were created by a powerful wizard who owned the world's biggest collection of gems. When Tengus learned about his collection, they began breaking into his home to steal his jewels, wanting the shiny objects all for themselves. Tired of his collection being in danger, the wizard enchanted his collection, bringing them to life and taught them to hide any time they spotted a Tengu.
Once the wizard died, the Tengu ravaged the wizard's home in search for his treasures. Gems who managed to escape from the birds ran deep into the mountains until their attackers were no longer able to follow. There, they formed a civilization high above the world. The strongest of Gems are sent back out into the world to retrieve jewels and bring them back home,

Always dreaming of going to the Land of Sun, Spinel spent most of her early years reading about the surface. Literature made Spinel's curiosity peak and train to be a Treasure Hunter one day.
