About

Background

Simon was born in the mid-1820s, originating from Poland. He grew up as a farm boy, primarily tending to chickens. The village he lived in always had vampire rumors, blaming all sorts of strange occurrences on such. During his early teens, the rumors became even more frequent and rampant. Simon brushed them off, as he was numb from hearing them so often. Unfortunately for him, those rumors weren’t entirely false. One night while out in the chicken coop, finishing his nightly chores, with only him and the chickens, a stranger enters… He awakens the next morning, finding himself still in the chicken coop. He noticed bite marks on his neck. That isn’t a good sign...

After that night, Simon decided he couldn’t stay in his home village any longer. He began traveling around Europe for the next many years, his personal highlight being Victorian England. Around the 1920s, Simon traveled to the other side of the Atlantic, landing in New York and making his way to Chicago. In the 1930s, Simon wound up in Lakewood. He met Robert, who had just recently became a ghost, and settled down with him there. Ever since then, they've resided in what came to be known by locals as The Haunted House.

Personality

Simon is a very cold and reserved person. He’s quite anti-social, preferring to be alone with his books. He’s also fairly impatient when it comes to people. Whenever he is forced to interact with others, he is very no-nonsense and cuts straight to the chase. He wants to get right to the reason why they’re talking to him, so they can both move on from this interaction. It isn’t uncommon for him to snap at people who try to talk to him for too long. However, when it comes to academic subjects, specifically history, Simon is very willing to sit down and talk for hours on end. One detail about a historical event he’s well-informed gets mentioned, and he will spiral into a history lesson. Otherwise, Simon does not like being in social situations. Those who do interact with him would definitely describe him as hostile and passive-aggressive. He prefers solitude, and greatly enjoys academic subjects.

Trivia

  • Simon is paradoxically both the oldest and youngest character of the main Lakewood cast. He is physically 14 but has been around significantly longer than anyone else (having 120 years on the second-oldest living character)
  • Simon does have an accent, being from Europe. What it is, I leave that up for interpretation.
  • Simon is not a native English speaker. He grew up speaking Polish, and later learned English and French from travelling around Europe. So yes, he is trilingual. He hates the English language because of how nonsensical and inconsistent it is. He had a hard time with it at first because of that, but now is extremely fluent.
  • Simon hisses a lot
  • Simon has a massive collection of books that fill the shelves of his study. He has amassed a hefty collection of books during his time in Lakewood. Most of the books are of non-fiction and historical subjects, though there are some fictional works in there. Some of the books are ones he’s personally written himself, the topics being his personal accounts of events, and subjects he’s researched into.
  • He spends much of his free time reading the books in his personal library and writing. He definitely could be a history professor if he so wished.
  • He likes keeping things tidy and organized, and is why the house is as clean as it is
  • Simon is the shortest of the entire Lakewood cast, standing at 4'10.

Relationships

Robert [ "Roommate" ]

Admittedly, Simon has a soft spot for Robert. He’s not sure what exactly it is about Robert that draws him in, but Simon enjoys his presence. Neither intrudes on the other’s personal space often, they often just enjoy existing in the same space. Simon is very willing to listen to Robert, and even have conversations about a wider variety of topics. Simon understands that he is the one person Robert is comfortable talking about his past and trauma with. Simon will not break about it to anyone else under any circumstances. If inquired about if they are boyfriends, Simon wouldn’t deny it, but wouldn’t say it outright either. Neither of them are from times where being openly gay was acceptable.

Danny [ Roommate ]

They are on completely opposite ends of the socialization spectrum, with Simon preferring to be alone and Danny constantly wanting to talk and be with others. It isn’t uncommon for Simon to snap at Danny. However, there are rare instances where they will actually have substantial conversations. Most often, those conversation topics will involve history, and possibly even politics. Simon mainly tolerates his presence in the house because he often leaves at night to get up to his shenanigans, leaving the house quiet for a few hours.
