| Laderic is Milo's grandfather and the keeper of Laria's book. He's a healer who also owns a potion shop which Milo helps with. Laderic is someone who has a tendency to be blunt but it comes from a good place. He's actually an overly empathetic person who can't stand to see others struggle and will help anyone he sees in need if he can help it. Though it pains him, he tells people what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear, because to him, sugarcoating does no good for anyone. Laderic received the book when he turned 20 and was told all about it's power and that people will come after it. After protecting the book for years and fending off various treasure hunters, he eventually settled down with a woman named Fiona and they had one son together. Laderic planned to raise his son to be his successor and to take the book but decided against it when he saw the kind of adult he grew up into. He eventually moved to Efblon with his wife to help heal the victims of the Efblonian civil war, opening up a shop in the capital. Fiona passed away from old age and Laderic became lonely and more bitter about the book in his possession. He ended up taking in 3 other teenagers, Ranesi, Steven, and Dravyn, after they desperately needed his help and he found out they were homeless. They knew of the book because Laderic had to use it in order to save Steven's life and Laderic thought this would finally be an opportunity to pass the book on. He was eventually approached but a girl by the name of Camilla one day who requested to become his pupil. Apparently she also was helping victims of the civil war at one point and she'd heard from a friend about his abilities as a healer. He agreed, but only after multiple requests and an offer to be paid. (He was struggling with money so he felt forced to accept in a way.) He and his little pod of apprentices ended up moving back to Odskaria when Laderic heard his son was going to war and he needed Laderic to look after his son, Milo. Camilla split off from the group to start her own shop in the city and the other 3 stayed behind with Laderic, though they got their own place to live in the same town. |
