A one-eyed man, Alex is a boisterous, loud man with a bit of a sneering sense of humour. His laughter is loud and contagious, and he's generally well-respected.
He is a very skilled fighter, having been in the Roman legion, and is arranged to marry Flora at the end of his years of service. When Calvo arrives to visit Earth, they are polar opposites and become fast friends, spending time in lengthy discussions of philosophy and the strange differences between their worlds. He is a bit patronizing and passive aggressive to get the upper hand, seeing Calvo so powerful and revered, but ultimately respects a man who can hold his own. That is, until he is exposed to something that may tip the scales in his favour.

Some man of incredible height, speech, and thought-- Alex's first impression of Calvo was nothing short of some unknown god or legend, come to his very doorstep for shelter. A gleaming opportunity for him to go down in history as a hero, Alexander did everything he could to accomodate the foreigner, sensing some immense, unspoken power. Calvo was polite, albeit stranger to the social standards of their culture, and although he spoke an unheard language in their first couple of meetings, the man, like magic, was able to speak their world's dialect after a few days with little effort. Alex has nothing but respect-- and jealousy-- for him.

His flower and treasure. Alexander knew the game of marriage, and so confessed his love as soon as he felt it, so as not to lose such a beautiful wife as she. He was caught off guard by her philosophical ramblings at first, fearfully keeping her from speaking aloud in public-- how terribly that would look! (boy I hate history sometimes-) But he enjoyed listening to her when they were in private, and he entertained her with tricks and games, always reaching for her laugh as it was always the sweetest sound. Though he can't spend time with her often, he looks forward to it whenever he's off duty. As soon as he's completed his years of service, he'll take her up in arms and dance the night away at their marriage. How wonderful it'll be...
