About

Brynhilde Pendragon (though she insists on being called Bryn) is an adventurer from the land of Seidrfold, a land where gods, humans and magical creatures have lived together in an uneasy balance for about as long as history remembers. Though most of the non-human population has their own communities and territories agreed between them, the human kingdoms have always been split into four kingdoms: Askajord, controlling the lands to the West, Einnheimr, the lands and sea of the east, with the tiny kingdom of Favollr diving them both and Augasiod to the North watching over it all. With Askajord destroyed at the end of the last war some fifteen years prior, the remaining kingdoms have settled into an uneasy truce as they feel out the new currents of power in Seidrfold.

As far as Bryn is concerned, she hails from Aegirlind, a mountain range on the coast of Einnheimr. An orphan with no biological family to speak of, she was raised by a dragon, known to the locals of the area as Wagner and known to Bryn as simply "Teacher". As far as Bryn was concerned, this was a happy if lonely upbringing – she rarely hd companions and was often left to her own devices, but Bryn had been raised to think herself above regulr humans and didn't quite have the tools to articulate that she was, in fact, lonely.

This happy life of Bryn's ground to a halt abruptly one day, when she returned from an errand to find her lifelong home ablaze and her beloved Teacher dying. Hysterical with grief, Bryn demanded to know what had happened and Wagner simply told her that the lair had been ransacked and pillaged by a prince from a foreign land. Knowing that he would die of his injuries, Wagner had Bryn promise that she would seek out the prince who had killed him and do the same in return.

Barely even cognizant of what she was agreeing do, Bryn did so anyway and the two of them forged a Pact – a magical contract that allowed the dying Wagner to pour what remained of his power into Bryn and send her on her way. As a symbol of their Pact, a white rose bloomed in Bryn's right eye – an eye for an eye, so to speak. Still reeling from what had happened and barely sure of where to start, Bryn prepared to set out her journey and set out into Seidrfold to hunt down the prince who had destroyed her home. She was eventually joined by two companions – Rakel Engsyre, an alraune seeking to explore the world and better understand herself and Reifr Erlandr Aurvandil, the son of a noble family sick to death of the life of nobility who jumped at the chance to join Bryn on her quest.

Unbeknownst to Bryn, however, the situaton wasn't quite as cut and dry as she had been lead to believe. Wagner hadn't been killed in a simple ransacking on the lair and it wasn't any ordinary prince who had killed him. It had been Einar Ulf Herleifr, a surviving prince from the destroyed kingdom of Askajord – and Bryn's older brother. She had been born Brynhilde Eir Sigrun, the second child of the royal family of Askajord which had been destroyed not as a consequence of war, but by Wagner himself.

The truth is that Askajord had won the war that resulted in its destruction, but in doing so, they had knowlingly trespassed on Wagner's territory, with a promise of "the kingdom's finest treasure" in return. What they offered him wasn't gold or jewels, but Brynhilde, still just a child by this point. Their reasoning was that as the only princess of Askajord, Brynhilde was more precious a treasure than any riches Askajord could offer.

Wagner, as dragons were wont to do, took great offense to this and the negotations broke down further when it became clear that if Askajord could not buy him off, they intended to kill him. As payback, Wagner took Bryn to be part of his horde, as she had been freely given to him and burned Askajord to nothing. And as one final punishment to the Askajordian royal family, he also took Bryn's memories and identity from her – as a child of their line, she shared their crimes. Her memories of her life in Askajord were purged and she grew up happily and unknowingly in the care of the dragon who had orphaned her to begin with.

Personality

BRYN IS:

✦ Outwardly cheery, energetic and adventurous. Marches to the beat of her own drum.

✦ Book smart and well-spoken but shockingly street dumb

✦ Curious and inquisitive, quick to learn, but also a total airhead

✦ Reckless -- the type who finds it quicker to ask forgiveness than permission.

✦ The type who enjoys a good fight.

✦ Occasionally kind of smug and condescending to humans, as a result of being raised by a dragon

✦ Kind of an enormous rage-fueled mess on the inside but she's (not) coping. It's fine

BRYN IS NOT:

✦ In apparent possession of any common sense or sense of self-preservation

✦ Genuinely cruel, actively malicious or mean-spirited to the average person

✦ Coping particularly well with the loss of either of her homes, but actively chooses not to deal with this

✦ Blessed with more than one single braincell

✦ Familiar with modern day culture or technology

Powers

Bryn's situation is a little complicated, but can be most easily summed up as "human imbued with the powers of a dragon" or "a haf-dragon in human form". For characters with magical or spiritual sensitivity, she will ping as having huge amounts of magic and/or partially undead, as she's harboring the powers and spirit of a dead dragon.

To get into the specifics, she's a human who received the powers of a dragon by entering what's called a Pact with him. It functions as a magical contract in which the dragon imparts its powers onto another living being – Bryn, in this case. Because of this, Bryn is bound to fulfill their mutual goal and will suffer adverse effects if she tries to avoid doing it – her powers can go out of control and her behaviour and mind will eventually degrade until she becomes bestial and animalistic. It's not fun!

A quick cheat sheet of her specific abilities is below:

✦ Dragonfire: Bryn can breathe dragonfire, but Prefers Not To. She generally finds it very hard to control and she usually can't produce more than a tiny handful of embers on command anyway. She can produce much larger columns of the stuff, but generally only in especially dire situations and only as a last resort, as spewing too much of the stuff can knock her clean out. Bryn's dragonfire is purple and burns exceptionally hot and is also fairly difficult to put out once it really gets going.

✦ Heightened Strength & Resilience: Much like a dragon, Bryn's skin is incredibly hard to pierce, with makes her very physically resilient, able to withstand forces far beyond a regular human. She could probably walk off being hit by a car, for example, but maybe not being hit by something like a truck. She's also got an incredibly heightened physical strength and is able to lift weights and apply forces way beyond what her actual stature implies. Because of her affinity for fire, she's also able to withstand high temperatures for rather long periods of time and can handle open flames for a minute or so before she starts to suffer for it.

✦ Other: Bryn's blood is slightly acidic, like that of a dragon and also an incredibly powerful alchemical ingredient but LET'S NOT GO THERE. She generally fights using a lance but is also just as good at hand-to-hand combat.
