Personality
Charismatic . Spontaneous . Carefree
Grey is straightforward and to the point. Quite frankly, they say it like they see it and expect no less from the people around them. Their honesty grants them respect from many who do not know how to parse the hidden meanings in their words, and those that are closer find enjoyment in the ways that Grey subtly insults or praises their peers.
Grey is a person of their word, but they are also beholden to no one but themselves. Some may say that they have no responsibilty but to themselves, and Grey wouldn't exactly disagree, even despite being a Councilmember. They have a fierce independent streak that they refuse to compromise and are known to do 'crazy' things with little to no warning to the people around them.
Premise
Sky Grey has lived a long and storied life. They've wandered the continent and done almost everything they'd planned for their life, and although being a politician is fun- at least to them, the work has become monotonous. So, just as they've done for every large life change they've ever made, once they felt they were ready with their own preparations they cut ties with the life they previously knew and carried on.
Needless to say, this brought a great shock to see someone who had been in politics for decades simply leave with little to no explanation, but Grey figures it'll all blow over soon. It's not like they've dropped at the face of the world, after all, and they've left a perfectly good replacement behind to put things back together. It should be fine... right?
The Grey Estate
The Grey family was and continues to be well known throughout the Livingwood, not only for their ancient ties to a forgotten royalty or their large estate that was one of the largest producers in the province, but also because they were quite adept at producing powerful mages. So it was no surprise that the 4th child of Emerald Grey, Sky Grey, was just as skilled as their predecessors. And just as with the others, the family used their resources to make sure that Sky was able to make the most of their latent potential.
Time passed. Days were filled with studies, practices, lessons in how to be proper and make your way through life as one of the elite. It was quite fine, and Grey was successful in the way that their family wanted to be, but this wasn't quite the life for them. Occasionally, Sky would be allowed to go on trips with their family members in order to gain 'additional experience' so they could assist in managing the estate once they were old enough or the elders needed to be 'replaced'. However, once Sky was able to get outside the Grey estate and get a taste of the rest of the world, they became addicted to it. It was so fresh, varied and exciting, everything that their current world was not.
Oh, the Places You'll Go...
Sky began planning a heist, a way to escape the stifling atmosphere of their family, but they were quickly found out once their plans were shared with the wrong sibling. Contrary to what they had expected, however, their family was completely fine with their plans of travelling the continent instead of joining the family business. "You never quite seemed happy like this anyways," they had said. So with a healthy allowance, a couple of travelling companions, and a family crest, Sky made their first steps out of the part of the Livingwood they had known their whole life. Their education and name served them well, and they soon found that their family connections were invaluable in allowing them to travel and live freely.
Despite that, Sky was already getting quite tired of everyone calling them 'Sir Grey' or 'Lord Grey'; couldn't anyone see beyond their family name? After some deliberation and far more annoyance, they decided that even if people couldn't they could at least claim their name as their own, and so they dropped the formalities and decided to simply go by 'Grey'. The name stuck, and over the decades Grey's original name was quietly forgotten, left to the wayside for all of those except those that were closest to them. They lived life to the fullest, associated themselves with both the highest and the lowest of society, and did it all as themself, whoever that was that week.
A Tangled Web of Memories
As Grey established themself outside of the Grey estate, they began to become well known as the enigmatic yet kind noble whose list of skills seemed endless. They tried a little bit of everything, taking up any career that interested them and trying out hobbies that only a few people had ever heard of. They had all the time in the world, after all, and as decades passed by and the centuries started adding up, Grey found themself a wisened person with the best qualities from their estate childhood as well as experience from their countless travels to the furthest corners of Inawyth. With this experience, they realized, they could make quite a difference in the country, and so, once again back by their family, Grey started running for office.
Grey's climb to the top was relatively quick, although that wasn't particularly a surprise. They were very successful at working with people, and their natural charisma easily made them a top candidate that many could find themselves supporting. During this period, they became involved with Serena Yilith, a Reafen Guildmaster who seemed to be the only person in the world who could understand what was going on behind Grey's eyes. Their family expanded further when one day, researching a topic to be discussed in an upcoming Council meeting, Grey stumbled upon a hidden diamond in the rough; Inaba. Grey took the small child under their wing, and the two began a highly mutualistic relationship where Grey tried to give Inaba the childhood he never had, while Inaba would assist Grey with whatever menial things they needed help with.
But Grey is wont to do whatever they like whenever they like, and so once they had become bored with the conflict and the toll that their job was taking on them, and they felt as though they had made enough of a difference- especially with such a brilliant successor to follow after them, they decided that, like always, it was time to pack up and move on with life. So, with little warning, they did, leaving the Council in shambles and Inaba very upset and hardly on speaking terms with Grey. But Grey is certain this is merely a small bump in the road, and everyone will understand in time, of course...

As an Ethereal Half-Elemental, Grey has the ability to peer into another's soul. This gives them the ability to see into people's surface thoughts, memories, and greatest fears. They can also tell when someone is lying, but are not necessarily able to discern what the truth may be.
Soul WeaponGrey can use a physical manifestation of their soul as a weapon or shield. This manifestation is quite strong, flexible, and versetile, but can still be broken with great force. If it is broken, it will cause immense damage to Grey and they won't be able to be use it for quite some time while their soul is healing.
LongevitySo long as Grey retains a portion of their soul, they cannot die of 'old age'. They also age at a rate far slower to those around them, despite being (half) human. This means that their lifespan is theoretically infinite, so long as they keep themself well fed and doesn't become injured or contract disease.
Grey jokes that Inaba is their latest prodigy, but both of them know that their bond runs deeper than that. Between them is an unspoken language only they know, a way of reading the other that no one else will ever come close to. Without exchanging a word, they both know exactly what the other is thinking. They've been almost inseperable for the past two decades, and even still, Grey is amazed by Inaba every day.
Though Grey acknowledges that Inaba is young, they also think he's responsible enough to make it on his own. Grey thinks that some time away from the political sphere will give Inaba experience that he desperately needs, although they didn't expect the kid to be elected to the highest office right off the bat.
Grey has known Vera for a very long time, and in that time they've gotten to know each other very well. Though they may not agree on every issue, they still manage to work together well both on and off the clock. Vera is an integral member of Grey's inner circle, and it's fair to say that they'd likely be a little lost without the reassurance of their friend.
To say that these two are close is an understatement. They are quite the dynamic duo and if you haven't figured it out when they've walked in the door, you'll soon know once they've easily and effortlessly bested you in a battle of wits.
