Profile
Inaba Gray
Councilman Representative of ???
Just how many more times am I going to have to clean up after the Council's messes? I suppose that's rich, coming from someone who's on it, but still...
Inaba Gray has made history in Inawyth as the youngest Councilperson in the country's history, and although he certainly is capable, his lack of life experience definitely shows in his political game. Still, his love of country pushes him to do the best he can.

Notes
- Inaba's eyes are solid gray and have no visible iris.
- Due to his Elemental Dissonance, any shadows Inaba generates seem more like portals to the astral plane.
- Although he is adopted, Inaba vehemently rejects any attempts to spell his name as "Grey".
- His favorite time of day is the moment before sunrise.
I'll take a rest when the Council's work is done. That's right, it's never going to happen.
Personality
Stubborn . Hardworking . Serious
No one could be better described as a workhorse than Inaba. When he's not holed up in meetings, he's poring over notes and thinking of ways to improve the lives of his country's citizens. While being a politician may not have been his original plan (and it certainly shows in his lack of expertise), now that Inaba has found himself on the Council, he does all he can to make sure he is doing his job well, even if his coworkers disagree with his somewhat radical ideas and methods.
Inaba is straight to the point. He's quite blunt when he speaks, takes no care not to hurt others feelings, and he takes his job very seriously. Though he may appear to be unfeeling on the surface, Inaba does have the capacity to care... he just doesn't tend to use it very often. These facts combined make Inaba somewhat hard to work with, but it's undeniable that he puts in the effort to be where he is.
Premise
Change is on the horizon in Inawyth, and anyone who's paying attention can tell. The youngest Councilman ever has just been elected, corruption runs through every level of society, and unrest is beginning to stir in cities where the people feel as though they've been ignored.
Given all these issues, how will Inaba Gray manage to navigate the changing landscape of the country he loves so much? Will he crack under the pressure of holding the highest office in the land, or will he manage to successfully chart these unknown waters he finds himself in?
Early Life
Being born an Ethereal in a land where they are not well understood is hard enough. Growing up in an unloving home is difficult enough on its own. Living in a house where food was not guaranteed every night is its own kind of torture. Mix all three together, and you start to have a pretty good idea of what Inaba's early childhood was like. The discomforts of home didn't make him suffer for long, though, because as soon as Inaba was able to fend for himself, his mother tossed him out to the streets so that Inaba could 'make a living for his sorry self' and learn some 'valuable life skills' such as not getting robbed and begging the right people for alms.
Life on the streets was not very kind to Inaba. Whispers almost immediately began spreading about the Ethereal child who would walk the slums at night, and underground street fighters, seeing a golden opportunity to get their hands on a defenseless child with the capability to be immensely powerful, kidnapped Inaba and forced him into illegal dogfights. His captors forced him to undergo brutal 'training' wherein Inaba was made to do magic he barely had any control over, and if he failed to perform to their expectations, he was punished harshly. Inaba, ever the clever one, made multiple attempts to escape. One fateful day, after another cautiously successful escape attempt, another Ethereal, Councilman Sky Grey, was wandering the Reafen slums, trying to get a read on how to best help the people of the not-quite capital city. An emaciated Inaba stuck to Grey like a shadow, looking for both alms and protection, and after a whole day of walking around in circles, the Councilperson took pity on Inaba and took him in under their wing.
Kuvdrip Education
Life in Kuvdrip under a Councilman's wing was far different from the squalor that Inaba was used to up until that point. Life was far more stable and comfortable, and Inaba even began receiving a private formal education in reading, writing, and magic. To Grey's surprise, Inaba showed great promise given some good guidance and a proper chance at life, and so the Councilperson decided to keep the young Inaba around to see just how far he could go with his skills. Though he was still considered odd by the general public, Grey never seemed to acknowledge those claims and instead saw Inaba for the child he truly was; a bright young lad with so much to offer.
With a new lease on life and his past life far behind him, Inaba flourished. His intelligence and skill with magic proved to make him a strong force to be reckoned with, and although he never asked for much from Grey, the Councilperson could see the hunger in Inaba's eyes. They started bringing Inaba with them on the campaign trail, both to use as a chess piece in their political game, but also to expose Inaba to something more. Though it was never explicitly stated, there was an unspoken agreement between the two that Inaba was being trained to be Grey's successor.
The Political Game
More time passed. Inaba watched silently from the sidelines and learned how to win over a crowd, how to plant ideas in other people's heads, and how to frame radical ideas in such a way that they seemed perfectly fine. Still, he was far too young to make any substantial splash in the political scene, so he bided his time and quietly made himself known by being in the background of every event Grey attended. Eventually, Inaba started offering advice to the Councilperson, giving ideas and suggestions that would more often than not be successfully implemented when the time came to pass.
To say that Grey's sudden retirement took Inaba off guard was an understatement. They seemed to be at the height of their career, with a promising future and so much more left to accomplish. It felt like a betrayal, because with Grey out of the picture, who was meant to be the one for Inaba to follow? Eventunally, Inaba came to the conclusion that there could be no one else but him to step up to the plate, and so Inaba began campaigning relentlessly, using the skills that he had learned over his lifetime to make quite a name for himself. Since he was already quite known in Inawyth, it was easy enough to win over the hearts of the people, and Inaba soon found himself the youngest-elected Council member in Inawyth's history.

As an Ethereal Half-Elemental, Inaba has the ability to peer into another's soul. This gives him the ability to see into people's surface thoughts, memories, and greatest fears. He can also tell when someone is lying, but is not necessarily able to discern what the truth may be.
Soul WeaponInaba can use a physical manifestation of his soul as a weapon or shield. This manifestation is quite strong, flexible, and versitile, but can still be broken with great force. If it is broken, it will cause immense damage to Inaba and he won't be able to be use it for quite some time while his soul is healing.
LongevitySo long as Inaba retains a portion of his soul, he cannot die of 'old age'. He also ages at a rate far slower to those around him, despite being (half) human. This means that his lifespan is theoretically infinite so long as he keeps himself well fed and doesn't become injured or contract disease.
To say that Inaba's and Grey's relationship is complicated barely scratches the surface of the matter. Though they've worked together for a very long time, one wouldn't exactly describe the two as 'close', and 'family' isn't typically a word that Inaba would use to describe their realtionship. He prefers to keep it strictly professional as much as possible.
Nevertheless, Inaba still has a great amount of respect and awe for Grey, and it's impossible to deny that it shows in how Inaba carries himself and conducts business. Despite this, one can usually catch Inaba hardening his jaw after his similarities to the Councilperson are brought up. Just what is their deal?
Despite their massively differing politics, Inaba and Vera tend to get along better than most of the other Council members, both in terms of work ethic and personal matters. Maybe it's due to the fact that they both have immense amounts of respect for each other, or that they've known each other since Inaba was a small child.
Whatever the case may be, when you have these two paired up together to solve an issue, one can rest assured that the problem is GOING to get solved... one way or another, whether you like it or not.
