Brent Hughes

Brenton Jack Hughes is a half-kitsune magician and the main chef for the Nine-Tailed Bakery. Working alongside his brother Seok, Brent provides a variety of delicious food and a comfortable environment for his patrons to enjoy. He loves to tell stories about ancient mythos and uses his illusion abilities to recreate them when he can. His powers are known as the "Magician's Suite". They include the ability to teleport himself or small objects short distances, crafting elaborate illusions, and using his deck of cards to put or remove physical objects from his mindscape.

Brent also has Dissociative Identity Disorder and is the host of the Wonderland System. He has eight other alters: Madder "Angel" Hatter, Victoria Lancaster, Pace Hughes, Xanthe Hughes, Agrona Lancaster, Maiden Hughes, Salome Hughes, and Dierde Hughes. He loves them all dearly and is currently in therapy to maintain a healthy relationship with them all. He is also currently dating Cole Mason and has a pet weasel named Bennett. 

Due to his past, Brent typically hides his ears and tail with illusion magic, for fear of them drawing unwanted attention. While not all of his alters are also capable of using illusions to do this, they try to respect Brent's wishes by hiding them as well when in public.

Brent was born to Frances and Jankook Hughes in the country of Sosaran. He was loved and cared for by both his parents and his older brother, Seok. However, due to a dispute between Jankook and the local mafia, the Hughes household was set on fire and Brent stolen away from them. 

Brent was then sold to a man named Dr. Baxter in Avuno, where he was raised as a doctor's apprentice. The trauma from the trafficking plus Dr. Baxter's abuse resulted in Brent's mind fracturing and creating alters to help him cope. As he grew older, Brent and the alters learned how to hide Brent's ears and tail as they grew. Since most of the alters at the time had illusion powers, it made it easy to hide them from Dr. Baxter to prevent him from harvesting them to sell on the black market.

When Brent was 14, he had a chance encounter in the town market. While shopping for groceries, Brent ran into his older brother, Seok. While Brent failed to recognize his relative, Seok recognized Brent right away due to his resemblance to Frances. Seok managed to befriend Brent and the two began to meet more frequently during Brent's outings. 

Eventually, Brent confided in Seok the truth about his past, which only steeled Seok's resolve. Together with Jankook, one night Seok slipped into Dr. Baxter's residence and stole Brent away, allowing the boy to live freely. 

Since then, Jankook and Seok have helped Brent work through the years of trauma. They have fostered healthier habits and hobbies in Brent, such as magic and cooking, as well as helped Brent achieve his dreams by assisting in the opening of the Nine-Tailed Bakery.
