Maya

Maya belonged to a tribe of Hayals living on the border of Caeladon (North) and Tharsis (South). His tribe had grown weary of living in the area torn by war and so after a meeting of the elders had taken place and despite the many years they had lived in the region the tribe made a decision to disband and branch out to new Hayal tribes to live with. Maya's parents who had high standing in the tribe (similar to royalty in terms of a Hayal tribe), knew of sympathetic Hayals just south of the border and rallied a group of twenty within the tribe to make the illfated journey.

After they had departed only a few days later the band of Hayals were attacked by a group of warbeasts from Tharsis that were normally used to harass the Caeladonians. The creatures were too much for the small tribe of Hayals and easily overran and slaughtered them all that came within reach of their powerful jaws. This threat forced Maya's parents to act hastily in desperation to save their child. Maya's mother was able to cast a minor teleportation spell, jaunting the poor child out of detection range for the monsters.

Later he was discovered by a group of roving Hayals that happened to be following the beasts. They took the four year old Maya to the nearby Hayal village which was the original destination his parents had intended for the whole group. There he was given into the care of the orphanage which was a common scene among the Hayals during the war but it wasn't long in which Maya had found himself on the streets again due to the orphanage setting ablaze.

He was taken in among a few other orphaned Hayals that were around the same age as him (about six years old at this point). They stole very little and left gifts behind which became tolerated among the community. But as time went on the members of the group of little thieves were caught slowly leaving Maya alone after around two years. He continued living as a thief being undetected by his low presence in the first place. After a while a rumor began to get passed around that he was a ghost, seeming to only go noticed during the night for some reason (perhaps in the moonlight). During this time he had ran into Alépou Selinis who was a very skilled theif, but due to the rumor of Maya being a child ghost the more superstitious Hayal ran off out of fear each time he saw Maya leaving the small boy in confusion.

Eventually though, even Maya was caught by an older Hayal named Miyaz Tawfeek that just so happened to be walking through the market stalls and managed to see the little boy running off with some food after leaving behind some items as opposed to gold (which was the currency of the area). Miyaz decided to inquire about the young Hayal's questionable payment in private which earned him the response of Maya's living conditions as a lonely thief left alone in the world. Miyaz's soft spot for children led him to adopting Maya and the two have lived together ever since. Through Miyaz, the little Maya met Jalil who is the reigning prince of the area (though he is unable to leave his tower and has little to no freedom) and they later became friends. Jalil was the one who noticed a ring that Maya wears which labeled him as royalty as well...

After this discovery, Miyaz had decided to learn more about what happened to Maya's family and past as per Maya's request. Because Maya was so young at the time he has no memory of what happened or has possibly repressed it. But no matter how painful, the young Hayal wished to know more and has since then for his own peace of mind. Despite Miyaz's wishes, he has been forced to gather any information he possibly can... even if it required information from Alépou. And thus, the thief was enlisted to assist in finding the truth for his little Maya...
