Lance is a small lithe creature called a catseye, which resembles a vaguely human cat with long tall ears and a human-like face. Catseyes are actually not organic creatures; they were formed by the passage of an angel down a stretch of highway, its power animating 61 of the Cat's Eye reflectors into life. Lance's eyes are reflective glass marbles, and he has a second pair in the back of his head. His back fur has vertical reflective road stripes. All of his fur is synthetic, and will not fall out. Catseyes eat tar and grit to replenish themselves, and Lance survives on the toxins present in cigarettes.

Something of a "lifestyler", Lance is a sweet and gentle creature with a camp air who hangs around in nightclubs and has many friends and casual lovers. He lacks most of the typical arrogance of a low-numbered catseye, and is always happy to lend a compassionate listening ear to the troubles of others. He has very poor low-light vision and is afraid of the dark, rarely venturing into the poorly-lit areas of clubs without company. The innate catseye fear of fastenings and bindings has been leaned kink-wards in Lance's case, but anything too binding will still give him the heebie-jeebies.
