About
Rigel was born to a keeper of the moon family. Their parents, though they barely remember, were not terribly loving to them. Being born male in a keeper of the moon tribe meant receiving a name that was based on their mother's, one that they have long since forgotten. Rigel was very young when they were separated from their parents, too young to remember the cause nor what happened to them. They were brought to an orphanage, but when they grew very ill, they were rushed to the children's unit in the alchemist's guild in Ul'dah, where they grew up. Because they were too young to remember their name, nor anything about themself, they were given a new name. They didn't care for it much, but as they grew up and realized they were in fact not a boy, they took on a different name; one they found while reading old tomes about the stars.
Rigel was an avid learner, spending most of their days reading by their lonesome instead of playing with the other children. They were a bit of a social outcast, even among other sickly children, which led to bullying and further ostracization. Their only friend from a young age was the carbuncle that they learned to summon through their avid studying and predisposition to being a strong magic user. The carbuncle they aptly named 'Glitter', which is a name they're slightly embarrassed about as an adult.
When Rigel was old enough, they left the children's home and began to study magic, excelling as an arcanist. It was during this time that they took an interest in the Hunt, taking out minor marks around the Limsa Lominsa area. They spent most of their days doing this, up until the calamity hit. They returned to Ul'dah to defend the city, fighting tooth and claw to keep the place they once knew as home safe.
After the calamity, the monsters became stronger, so Rigel knew in turn that they had to as well. They began to realize that they had a gift, what they would later come to know as the Echo. They could sense the monster's movements before they happened, and predict attacks in advance, allowing them to become a stronger and better fighter with each mark they took down. Eventually, they come across the Scions, who are interested in this 'echo', and become a member of their ranks, a known strong hunter. Around this time they become more interested in healing magic, and choose to go down the path of scholar.
Not too long after meeting the Scions, they join their free company. They're quite the prickly, unfriendly sort at first, but after being thoroughly worked by their fellow free company members, they befriend several others, some begrudgingly, and start to develop feelings for one Cybelle Murlet.
