For all his life he has seen his power as more of an inconvenience, mainly for the obligation that comes with it rather than the ability itself. It’s useful… and so is he! Death isn’t a consequence he has to live with until he’s old and grey, and pain isn’t something that he needs to live in fear of. He has dedicated his life to helping the Syndicate because the alternative of working at a gas station isn’t too attractive.
