Disinhibit Social Engagement Disorder >
DSED (Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder) is a disorder young children may develop as a result of trauma or the absence of a long-term caregiver. It is one form of attachment disorder and affects the way children form bonds with adults and strangers. Children with DSED often lack inhibitions about meeting strangers and don't distinguish between trusted adults and strangers. They may put themselves in dangerous situations by trusting the wrong people or failing to check in with trusted adults before wandering off.

Adder's DSED started in kithood from losing one caretaker and being unable to bond appropriately with Beantoe as his new primary caretaker. As a result, Adderkit saw everyone in the same trusted adult role. He is overly affectionate and trusting of strangers and those he hardly knows, regarding them without fear or suspicion. As he grows, this behavior will be managed a bit better when other characters are able to step in and correct him.
But even as he enters adulthood now, this continued to effect how he develops relationships, continuing to treat those around him with familiarity and blind trust.

History

kithood [ 0 - 6 moons ] >

    Adderkit was born second of three kits near the end of Leaf-bare. His mother Lakebreeze had used a rogue donor to have a second litter once her oldest two had become warriors.
Adderkit and his littermates Lavenderkit and Flurrykit were born weak and sickly, everyone took great care around the three, doing their best to help them survive. This was due to their mother's illness, as Lakebreeze had become sickly partway through her pregnancy. She herself was doing her best to stay strong for her kits while fighting her own illness.

Adderkit doesn’t know much about what’s outside yet, being confined to a den while he recovered. But his mother often tells him and his littermates stories to pass the time. He learned of the sort of cats his brother and sister were named for. For some reason, she’s a little more reluctant to tell him about Adderthroat, though she claims he was a great warrior anyway. Lakebreeze tells him that their namesakes would have loved to meet them and that maybe, someday soon, they just might.

Slowly Adderkit and his littermates recovered from their illness. Lakebreeze's mood seemed to brighten ever so slightly as she noticed their recovery as if she managed to regain a small scrap of hope. Things seemed to be getting better and happier.

One day when Adderkit and his siblings were about two moons old, the medicine cats declared Adderkit and his littermates well. Cats came to help them move to the nursery, and at first Adderkit was excited, he'd get to play with all the other kits soon and meet so many more clanmates. But his mom wasn't coming with them. Lakebreeze vocalized her complaints, shouting and pleading to have her kits stay, that they surely couldn't go to the nursery without her. Adderkit, of course, agreed with his mother. But was moved to the nursery with his littermates regardless. They didn't need to be in the medicine den anymore, and Lakebreeze needed to focus on regaining her own strength.

Lakebreeze died shortly after, succumbing to her illness.

Adderkit didn't understand at first. He asked, begged, cried for the other cats to let him see his mom again. But nothing worked, instead, they tried to explain it to him. That he would never see his mom again, that she was gone. Adderkit didn't want to listen and refused at first to believe them. But he couldn't ignore it forever, his mother was dead, and he was never going to see her again.

It was about a moon later that Adderkit met his brother Cricketstorm finally. Although skeptical at first, Adderkit quickly warmed up to the tom and was overjoyed to have another family member with him during this time.

He decided that maybe it was time to give the other queens a chance too, they were only trying to help after all. Even if they couldn't make his sadness disappear he shouldn't be so mean to them right?
The first time Adderkit saw the stars was with Drizzlesong. Adderkit had been staying up late and she decided to keep him company for a little while. She took him out to see the stars and say good night to his mom in Starclan. Adderkit couldn't believe how many there were! The night sky was filled with cats all watching over them.

Adderkit made friends with Drizzlesong's daughter Cinderkit too. She was quiet and at first, he thought she didn't like him, but Cinderkit turned out to be a really nice cat and an awesome friend. She still seemed nervous a lot, but that was alright. The two could just sit and tell each other stories.
Adderkit was almost disappointed when shortly after Cinderkit was made Cinderpaw and given her new mentor. This meant that she'd no longer sleep in the nursery or come hang out with Adderkit as much anymore. But Adderkit knew that soon he'd be made an apprentice too! He'd finally move into a new den and be given a mentor. His mom loved her two mentors and Adderkit was sure he'd love whoever was assigned to him too.

apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] >

    Adderpaw and his littermates were made apprentices and given their new names and mentors. Adderpaw was overjoyed to be given Drizzlesong as his mentor!
Adderpaw spent his days training with Drizzlesong and getting to know his classmates. So far, he has never met a cat he disliked. Although it was strange to hear that many cats were unsure about their leader Wildstar.

Adderpaw continues to be rather emotional as well, and burst out crying during a conversation when Thrushbriar insinuated that Starclan might now actually exist. The thought was terrifying, for so long Adderpaw had believed that he would see his mom again someday, that his ancestors were watching over him and protecting his clan. But what if they weren't there? That dead was just... gone.
Adderpaw tried to shake the conversation from his mind, it was too much for him to deal with. Besides, Drizzlesong believed in Starclan and Adderpaw trusted her to know.

For many moons Adderpaw has heard about the war and the horrors that came with it. But to him, it felt like business as normal and he never really took the comments about battle seriously. Things felt safe within Emberclan camp and so far he'd never really been to the Hailclan border. But finally the day came. Adderpaw and Flurrypaw went along with a patrol along the border.
There, they came across a rogue called Dropletshine. Dropletshine was swimming and having fun, they seemed really nice and invited them to join. But they were trespassing, Dropletshine wasn't allowed on Emberclan territory. So they had to leave.  It was sad and Adderpaw didn't understand why exactly, but it was against the rules for Dropletshine to be there, so the patrol made Dropletshine leave.

A Hailclan patrol saw them send Dropletshine away and started to argue with them. Then Flurrypaw reacted and the battle started. Adderpaw had never seen such bloodshed before, it was horrifying, and Adderpaw was frozen at first. Then a Hailclan apprentice named Littlepaw approached him, and Adderpaw had to defend himself and his clan against him. Littlepaw accused them of murder, saying they caused someone to be killed last time, but Adderpaw argued that no one would kill without reason. Littlepaw must be wrong.
Then Flurrypaw was forced to retreat from her injuries, and Adderpaw followed shortly after having lost his fight against the older but smaller apprentice.

Upon returning and having his wounds treated, Adderpaw came to discover more about the consequences of battle. Flurrypaw had been blinded in on eye and Maplestream, a member of the council and a brave warrior, had been killed.
Emberclan might not be evil, but Hailclan sure was. Or... That was how it was right?

Hailclan had to be a clan of the most evil and cruel cats. Adderpaw was sure of that now more than ever- or at the very least- that cat. The one- the one who killed Flurrypaw. The brown-furred molly with a limp paw was the one responsible for his sister's death and- and- Adderpaw would never forgive her.
Flurrypaw has died of an infection in her wounds. Flurrypaw would never fulfill her dream and become the clan leader, she would never even be made a warrior. Flurrypaw had always been the best of them, the strongest and most confident, and now she was just- gone. In Starclan? Who the hell knows.
Adderpaw didn't feel like he could really talk to anyone about this. He loved and trusted his classmates, he had so many friends and family left still. But- but this? This was too much. Adderpaw didn't think he was very good anymore. He couldn't tell Drizzlesong that he wanted to hurt the Hailclan cat who did this. He couldn't be honest with Lavenderpaw or Cinderpaw anymore. He couldn't even speak to Cricketstorm or Fireflydawn now.

Drizzlesong tried to comfort Adderpaw, and for a while it helped. But during a border patrol- when face to face with another Hailclan patrol and Flurrypaw's killer- Adderpaw lost it. He didn't listen to Fireflydawn or Cricketstorm or even Drizzlesong. He made the first move, lunging to attack the other apprentice unprovoked. She killed his sister, she was a monster, he- he was right to put a stop to her right? He needed to stop her from hurting anyone else.
The Hailclan apprentice didn't even realize she had been the cause of Flurrypaw's death. But that was no excuse. Adderpaw continued to push and try to attack her even as she blamed everyone but herself for Flurrypaw's untimely death.
Adderpaw broke down in tears after a time, emotionally exhausted by all of this. The cat accepted her responsibility but pressed that Emberclan's war had taken cats from her too.
Finally getting a look around Adderpaw realized what exactly he had done. In an effort to take revenge, he had started another battle, another fight for his loved ones and his clan to deal with. He- he really messed everything up badly. He let Martenpaw go and instead went to search for Drizzlesong and everyone else.
Drizzlesong was angry with him, but assured that they would talk later. Right now they had to fix this mess. But- it was already too late.
Shellsky, an older warrior and one of Drizzlesong's close friends- was killed by a Hailclan warrior.

The battle ended and everyone returned to camp. Upon arriving, Drizzlesong confronted Wildstar about everything, about the war and the deaths and how none of it was necessary. Adderpaw found his brothers Cricketstorm and Lavenderpaw and stuck close to their side while he watched, shaking.
Drizzlesong fought with Wildstar and won, then she ordered the leader into exile, the rest of the clan watching and supporting Drizzlesong all the while.
His mentor was... scary.
Adderpaw was dreading the talking to she promised him.

Drizzlesong didn't make him wait long. She scolded Adderpaw for his reckless behavior, ignoring her orders, and putting himself and their clanmates in danger. Adderpaw knew he messed up. Shellsky was dead from a battle that hadn't needed to happen- he wasn't- he hadn't been acting like a warrior or even considering what his actions would cause. He just- reacted. Seeing Martenpaw there, acting as if she wasn't a horrible sister-murdering monster... It wasn't an excuse though. No excuse would ever be worth the fresh scars on Cricketstorm's face or another warrior's life.
Adderpaw accepted his guilt and responsibility. And Drizzlesong didn't seem to punish him any further, at least for the time being. She told him about his mother and how neither Lakebreeze of Flurrypaw would be happy with how he acted that day. That to be a good warrior, first he needed to listen and think about what he was doing. He was trying to be a good warrior- he just- didn't expect it to be so painful.
They left the conversation there with Drizzlesong saying that until the new leader was chosen, they'd take a break from training. And she sent him to Hurricanewatcher to help the medicine cat with anything he needed in the meantime.

Learning to sign with Lavenderpaw was a little fun, though it took Adderpaw a lot longer to get any of it to actually stick. And even then, he could only really sign a few words. But it was nice, having conversations with Lavenderpaw like this. Even if his brother didn't always have a lot to say.

Reedshine was named Reedstar and became Emberclan's next leader. It was clear that Drizzlesong was proud of her daughter, and Adderpaw had hope that Reedstar would do well.
The war was finally ended officially, and the clans could return to peace. What even was peace? Was it like in Emberclan before he learned what was going on? Or was it something different?
Flurrypaw probably would have loved to see it. Or maybe not, she liked how the battles gave her a chance to prove herself so maybe she would have been disappointed by this.

Drizzlesong, of course, picked up his training again now that Reedstar was leader. She still seemed to be disappointed in him, even though she didn't say anything more about it. Adderpaw didn't blame her, he was still disappointed in himself. He wasn't sure he really could become a warrior like this. While everyone seemed to have forgiven him by now, he still made a really terrible mistake and for selfish and cruel reasons at that. He was far from an honorable warrior. He was far from being someone like Drizzlesong.

Still, Adderpaw worked hard. He'd do his best to learn and grow like everyone else. It was all he wanted- to be a better cat. It shouldn't be such an impossible goal, everyone else made it look easy. He could get there too right? Someday?

warriorhood [12 - 48 moons]
   Addersong was made a warrior, named after his mentor. He was stunned- happy, excited, but stunned. Did he really deserve this? Still he couldn't keep the grin off his face. Then his brother was given his name too, Lavendernose. It was perfect- they made it to warriorhood together. Addersong was so happy- or mostly anyway.
He could still imagine ways this could have been better- but he's trying not to dwell on what-ifs so much anymore. He still wished Flurrypaw could have been named a warrior too, and there were many things that made this day more bitter-sweet. He really hoped Drizzlesong would still hang out with him from time to time, even if he wasn't her responsibility anymore.
Drizzlesong retired to the elders den that same day, having served as a warrior for many moons it was finally time for her to rest. It was sad, but Addersong knew his mentor really deserved it. Drizzlesong had done so much for her clan, and now she could actually take a step back and relax for once.
Still, even with all the changes and bittersweet feelings, Addersong could hardly sit still in excited restless energy throughout their vigil. They had done it- they had been made a warrior.

Beantoe suddenly grew ill, something developing inside her that Hurricanewatcher couldn't fix. Addersong held out hope that she would be fine, but after a moon... He and Lavendernose were called to the medicine den to say goodbye.
Addersong hadn't been very close with Beantoe, pushing her away when all she did was help. They regretted their relationship with her, and how ungrateful and difficult they had been. Addersong wanted Beantoe to know at least, that they did love her and see her as the wonderful mother she really had been. Beantoe had raised them, Lavendernose, and Flurrypaw after their mom had died. Beantoe had always been there for each of them. Beantoe had always done her best.
She shouldn't have to go.
Beantoe died with Addersong and Lavendernose by her side.

Cinderwhisper and Lavendernose were assigned their first apprentices. Addersong was happy for them, though it meant the two had less free time to spend with them. So Addersong spent a good portion of his days on his own, doing whatever needed to be done, or visiting with Drizzlesong in the elders den.

Things were going alright. There were sad and difficult times, but even so, there were happy times as well. Addersong made sure to congratulate Thrushbriar personally when Thrushbriar and Newtspring announced they were expecting. It was always nice to see new kits, Addersong wondered if someday they'd want to raise kits too.

After Lavendernose's apprentice earned their warrior name, Lavendernose came down with white cough and was moved to the medicine den.
Their earliest memories were that of the medicine den, and it always seemed to go back to that. Addersong remembered being sickly, losing their mom, losing their sister, and then the mom who raised them too. Those who went into the medicine den, at least when they were connected to Addersong, didn't typically come back out again.
If there was a Starclan, if this was really just another hurdle they sent to them, why were they doing this? Why were they always hurting them like this? Addersong didn't know what to do as his last littermate struggled with illness.

Lavendernose's illness became worse as he developed green-cough. And finally, the horrible day came that Addersong said goodbye to his brother.

Addersong and Cinderwhisper slowly started spending more time together. When Cinderwhisper's mentor had died, Addersong made sure to be there for her in whatever way he could. It was hard, losing so many cats like this.
Still, time moved on. With Cinderwhisper's apprentice now a warrior, and things with the sickness were calming down again. It was peaceful and the pair had quite a bit more time. Addersong was still hurting a lot from his last littermate's passing, but he was enjoying the time he and Cinderwhisper got to spend together.

They announced their mateship to a few close friends and family. Drizzlesong, Cricketstorm, Fireflydawn, and Reedstar. He wondered about telling Sleetpuddle, but the tom wasn't that close with either of them. He had been Lavendernose's friend though, and Addersong was sure he missed him.
He was happy. Addersong loved seeing Cinderwhisper smile and loved showering her in affection. He did worry sometimes that he was a bit much, she seemed happy even still.

Addersong was assigned his apprentice, a tabby cat named Shorepaw. They weren't sure what to expect, they hoped to be the kind of mentor that Drizzlesong had been to him. And despite his worries- Addersong was excited.

Wild was back. The leader turned rogue who had started a war and been exiled during his apprenticeship. Just her being here brought back painful memories of everything that had happened.
She accused cats of being traitors, plotting to murder Reedstar, and surely... someone had to have poisoned that prey. But Addersong trusted all his clanmates. None of them were capable of such a horrible crime. So how had it happened? Addersong didn't know, but he knew Wild had to be wrong, she had to be lying or mistaken somehow, and he didn't know why she was even here. What did she want from them? Why now? Hadn't she done enough?
He didn't blame his mentor/mother-in-law for glaring at Wild when their eyes met. If he were braver he might have said something or done the same, but even then he didn't really know what.

Hailclan cats came to stay with them, but not much had changed otherwise. He was slowly starting to get used to Wild being in camp again, but he was still concerned with why she was here. He spent most of his time with Cinderwhisper and he hopes it made them both feel a little better. It certainly did for him.
Reedstar and Tigerfrost announced they were having kits soon, and it took a while for Addersong to realize that meant they'd be an auncle. That was so cool, and Cinderwhisper seemed really happy for her sibling and their soon-to-be nieces and nephews.

Cricketstorm apparently had a mate and never told him. So mean. So what if it was a secret relationship, they would have loved to hear their older brother had found love too. Apparently, they'd been mates even longer than him and Cinderwhisper had. Hootsong was dealing with quite an ordeal, she'd been exiled to live as a rogue, and was now asking to join Emberclan as she found herself pregnant with Cricketstorm's kits. Emberclan sure was going to be busy, and Addersong was excited to have so much to look forward to.

On the day of the gathering, Addersong was asked to help keep an eye on a Hailclan molly. She had been getting herself into trouble and was now pregnant with Emberclan kits. She didn't seem so bad, but was definitely excitable and strange.
At first things seemed alright, though Pigeoncall had nearly bumped into more than one cat just trying to mind their own business. And then they came across a Cloudclan warrior. When asked about how the clan was doing, they bluntly told them both about recent happenings. It seemed Swanstar had finally woken up only to be murdered. Pigeoncall started to break down and cry for her father, and Addersong led her back to camp, ending their time at the gathering early.

They were nearly back at Emberclan camp when the sky grew dark. It was still only mid-day, and it hadn't been cloudy before, so what now? Addersong had Pigeoncall go to camp and asked her to go rest in the nursery, she was still so upset that she didn't really remark on the strange things.
There was a flash of lightning and soon he thought he could smell smoke. Addersong worried about what had happened after he left, where Reedstar and the others might be. But he stayed put, waiting outside the cave to stand guard and protect camp. He saw Wild run past him, towards the gathering place, but they didn't try to stop her. This was beyond Wild's doing, and they didn't understand what was happening at all.

Finally, everyone returned home again. It seemed everyone made it back relatively unharmed. Wild was guided to the medicine den, having swallowed too much water somehow. But everyone seemed okay now.
Reedstar would tell them what happened. Addersong couldn't believe it- a ghost had appeared? Wild wasn't lying, there were spies in all the clans?

Things continued, more Hailclan refugees showing up, and Addersong had to wonder if their own clan would follow the same path soon. Falling apart and losing your home like that was unthinkable.
Reedstar had their kits and their mate Tigerfrost stayed in the nursery with them. Addersong adored his new nieces and nephews. They were so small and precious, a light in the darker days that haunted Emberclan, though he was a little scared of their parents to interact with them much.
And soon Hootsong and Cricketstorm's kits were born too.
Addersong visited them often. This was a blessing regardless of how the relationship started, their family was altogether now and Hootsong was such a wonderful addition to it.
Addersong wondered if they and Cinderwhisper would have kits soon too. But they agreed to wait a while first.

Snakeheart was found dead by his kid Shadowfeather. The clan had rather mixed feelings on this, though offered the young warrior their sympathy.
Wild died suddenly overnight, covered in wounds and the guards around having no clue how it could have happened.
It was a few hours that Wild awoke again, her second life kicking in miraculously. Addersong had been skeptical of Starclan before, and that a rogue like Wild would still have her second life but- the proof was there in front of them.
Wild's tale of her fight against Blizzardfang in the dark forest was frightening, the types of things that only happened in kithood nightmares.
As unbelievable as it all was, this... this was the things their clan would have to overcome together for their future.

Reedstar announced that their brother Sleetpuddle would be training under Irisdawn. This was such a strange event and had a lot of the clan whispering about it. Addersong wondered how their brother-in-law felt about the change, but it didn't seem as though he minded too much. Addersong asked Cinderwhisper if she knew what this might be about, but she didn't have any clue either.

Fireflydawn was brought back to camp covered in horrible wounds, he and another warrior had encountered coyotes while on patrol. The other warrior, Weaselsight, hadn't made it back to camp, and Fireflydawn died of his injuries not long after entering the medicine den.
Addersong didn't cry out, he sat beside his only remaining sibling and mourned Fireflydawn silently. Addersong always had a hard time with death, and losing another brother... He stuck by families side for the time to come, he needed their support, but also- he couldn't help but fear the moment he let them out of their sight, they'd lose them too.

And then, Blizzardfang was gone. The villain only a few had met in person, manipulating their friends and families behind the scene, was dead. Killed by her own spies- one of which- had been Sleetpuddle.
Sleetpuddle had confessed to Reedstar privately, and they had already chosen to forgive him. But forgiveness didn't come so easily for others, and Drizzlesong disowned her son in front of the camp.
Addersong was inclined to take his former mentor's side, but they didn't voice any of this. They just held CInderwhisper close as it was her family that was now in tatters before her eyes.

Things slowly became more normal again. Hailclan was able to return home and reform themselves. Pigeon had left, becoming a rogue and taking one of her kits with her, and Shorepaw had passed his warrior assessment and was give the name Shoretalon.
Addersong was sad their training hadn't gone the way they had hoped for in the beginning. So much had been happening, it had almost felt as if their apprentice had been an afterthought in their mind. And yet, here he was today, standing proudly in front of the clan, a new warrior despite all the turmoil that had plagued the clan during their training.
Shoretalon had worked hard and overcome much, and Addersong couldn't be prouder.

Something else seemed to be going on, Yewberry returned from a half-moon meeting visibly shaken. The half-moon meetings stopped after that as the Crystal falls were deemed dangerous.

It was late leaf-fall when Reedstar and Tigerfrost's kits had been made apprentices, and just a moon later when Cricketstorm and Hootsong's kits followed. Though the weather was cooling down and the clans were preparing for the leaf-bare to come, there was a sense of peace in knowing the spies had been dealt with in each of the clans and Blizzardfang was gone for good.
So when Cinderwhisper announced she was pregnant, Addersong was beyond thrilled to be a parent. They'd have to work double to ensure their little ones would have a good life. Both he and Cinderwhisper had been leaf-bare kittens themself, it seemed like fate that their kits would share the same birth season.
He just hoped they'd be in good health regardless of the colder moons.

Tigerfrost died, defending two of his kits from a starving fox. The clan mourned alongside their leader as Reedstar grieved their mate. Tigerfrost had been a great warrior, not a cat would doubt that.

Cinderwhisper gave birth to three beautiful and healthy kittens. They decided to name them Piperkit, Dacekit, and Oceankit. Right away the three were energetic and a bit of a pawful, but Addersong wouldn't have had it any other way.
Oceankit reminded Addersong a bit of someone they used to know in passing, it made him a bit sad to remember. That warrior... they might still have been here today if it hadn't been for them.
Addersong put aside their feelings of melancholy because regardless, they adored their little daughter so much.

It was strange, even in leaf-bare the nursery was crowded with numerous kits. The leaf-bare season was in full swing now and cats barely had enough to feed themselves. It was thanks to the support of their families that got the kits through the worst of the famine.

Drizzlesong died of starvation, having sacrificed much of her meals to help her children and grandchildren. Addersong mourned for their mentor and mother-in-law, and held Cinderwhisper close. He knew how it was to lose a mother, more than any cat he'd met. And now Drizzlesong was gone too.
He was happy to have gotten to known her, for their kits to have met her, and for all the wisdom she had passed onto him over her life. He was sad for all the things she wouldn't see, for the stories that would now go untold, and the broken relationships that now, would never have the chance to heal.
Addersong gave Cinderwhisper a flower, one like the one Drizzlesong had worn. They'd keep it close, and together carry on her legacy with their own family.

Parsleypaw visited his cousins often, and it was from him that Addersong learned an eagle had been sighted in Emberclan's territory. He didn't really know a lot about the predators but agreed to look out for it to help protect their smaller clanmates.

Hyacinthpaw fell through the ice and drowned. Losing his niece, Addersong wanted to offer his brother and his family his support. But he didn't know how to go about it. They had been through so much, and now, to lose a kit on top of everything else.
Coyotes made another appearance, killing another three cats in their wake. A warrior turned and left the clan, and more cats died from starvation and illness.
The leaf-bare was unbearably harsh, but soon, it would be new-leaf.
When the snowstorms turned to rainstorms, it was met with relief and hope that the worst was finally over.

Addersong was once again chosen to act as a cat's mentor, this time to a strange young tom named Tangerinepaw. Tangerinepaw had an odd view on relationships, and it seemed to be paralleled by several of his littermates. Addersong decided he'd do his best by Tangerinepaw, and become someone the young cat may eventually be able to rely upon.

It wasn't long before Tangerinepaw's sister Apricotpaw had gotten lost while on patrol. Addersong was quick to join in the search and help out.
During the search Addersong interacted with Tangerine's other littermate Willowpaw. It went... less than great, the young tom was convinced no one actually cared and they were all just wasting their time. It was, disheartening to hear the siblings talk about each other in such a callous way.
When Petaldrift had a vision of Apricotpaw trapped in a snare, the search party decided to split up. Addersong lead a group along the border towards the bathing boulders, while Cricketstorm led the other group along the river towards the two-leg den. Tangerinepaw was more distressed as the severity of the situation sank in, and Addersong let him choose which group to go with. He chose to go along with his mother and aunt in Cricketstorm's group.
The bathing boulders gave them no leads, there was no sign of the missing apprentice anywhere. It was a while later when Tangerinepaw and Rosefall caught up with them again, the other group had found her and were on their way back to camp now.
Addersong was in a much better mood returning with his apprentice. He hoped that someday these kids would learn to trust their clanmates to have their backs, but it'd be slow to work through all the things that had been instilled in them since kithood.

Things in camp were tense when Addersong returned from training one day. Addersong wasn't prepared for what he'd learned. A giant fish, larger than they had seen, had surfaced in the camp's stream. This fish, had taken hold of one of the clan's elders, and dragged him down under the water.
To make the news even more horrifying to them, the elder hadn't been the fish's initial target, but Dacekit- Dacekit had been playing with his friend around the stream, fallen in, and was targeted as that fish's prey.
Addersong immediately rushed to the nursery to see his family. There, Cinderwhisper and their three ktis were all together. Dacekit had wrappings on from where he'd landed and been injured, but he was okay. Addersong cried, he didn't know what he would do if he'd lost him.
Needless to say, none of the three were allowed to play in or around the stream for a long while. They could learn to swim better when they were apprentices.

Cinderwhisper's death was sudden. Addersong couldn't- let go of his mate. She meant everything to him- and their kits-.
What- what were they going to do? They were still so young... Too young...
He'd been smaller than they were now when he'd lost his first mother. He hardly remembered her at all. Only knowing her from... the stories he'd heard from others. Some lies, some truths, some bitter, and just... He didn't know her.
Would they know Cinderwhisper? She was brilliant- a kind, wonderful cat. An amazing mother and just a thoughtful and compassionate warrior. She- she should be here right now. Be with him and their kits, when they got their apprentice names, when they became warriors- had kits of their own.
How could they- go on without her now?

queenhood [48- Present moons] >

Addersong moved to the nursery to be with his children. They took on the role of queen to be with them full time now. They felt bad- Tangerinepaw- they still had a duty to them, they still wanted him to know- that he still cared about him and would be there when he needed him. But his kits needed him now. He had to. Stormfire would be a great mentor for him.

Addersong adored his kits. A part of him loved how much time they were spending together now. But... He just wished it would have been all of them together, not under these horrid circumstances.
Still, he tried to be excited for them to grow and try new things. They were still so small and had their whole lives ahead of them. He needed to be there for them, for Cindewhisper's sake too.

Relationships

Lakebreeze {Mother | Emberclan | Dead}

  Addersong can barely remember their mom now. In some ways they are jealous of Fireflydawn and Cricketstorm who had their mom with them well into their warriorhood while they and Lavendernose never really had a chance at a real relationship with her. But Addersong knows it's not a fair comparison.

Fireflydawn {Sibling | Emberclan | Alive}

  Fireflydawn is so cool, but at the same time is so distant. Adderpaw hopes that now that he can leave camp that Fireflydawn and Cricketstorm will spend more time with him and his littermates.

Cricketstorm {Brother | Emberclan | Alive}

  Cricketstorm lived up to every expectation Adderpaw had. He wants to spend as much time as possible with Cricketstorm and the rest of his family but that isn't always doable. Adderpaw hopes they continue to bond and be close.

Flurrypaw {Sister | Emberclan | Dead}

  Flurrypaw always knew what to do next and where she was going. She was self-assured and headstrong.
Some cats seem to have got the wrong idea about their sister, but Addersong knows that Flurrypaw really was a good cat and would have been the best warrior of them all. It's awful that her time was cut so short.

Cinderwhisper {Friend | Emberclan | Alive}

  Cinderpaw was his first friend close to his own age. Adderpaw hopes they can continue to get along, he'll try his best not to be scary when around her. He knows she's more quiet and nervous, but he still really values her friendship.

Lavendernose {Brother | Emberclan | Alive}

  Lavendernose is so nice, he doesn't seem to mind at all when Adderpaw just wants to snuggle. Lavenderpaw seems a bit quick to let him and their sister get their own way and sometimes it's really hard to tell what he's thinking. But regardless, Adderpaw loves his brother and knows he'll do great things.

Beantoe { Adoptive mother | Emberclan | Dead}

  Beantoe took him and his littermates in after their mother's death. Addersong regrets a lot about their relationship, they wished they hadn't pushed her away so much. Beantoe really was a great mom.

Drizzlesong {Mentor | Emberclan | Alive}

  Drizzlesong is Sleetpaw, Cinderpaw, and Tidepaw's mom. She's been a really great mom to them but sometimes make Adderpaw miss his own mom all the more. Drizzlesong still sometimes takes the time to be his friend though and take him out to watch the stars at night.
