Paranoid Personality Disorder >

Paranoid Personality disorder is often characterized as the persistent distrust of others. It makes creating and maintaining relationships difficult as one suffering from it is more likely to think the worst of anyone around them. They create negative stereotypes of others or see slights against them in the smallest of issues. Those who suffer from this disorder often develop traits such as; doubting the loyalty of others, hypersensitivity, being quick to anger, hold grudges, and other aspects relating to the inherent distrust of others. Causes aren't well known as cases vary. Some believe the disorder may be hereditary, while other studies feel it may stem from traumatic events in childhood.

Lakebreeze's paranoia most likely stems from the events she'd witnessed or undergone while she was an apprentice. From Adderthroat's betrayal and death to Lilydrop's threats and callous behavior. Lakebreeze has learned to distrust and be suspicious of almost everyone she encounters, especially her own clanmates.
Lakebreeze perceives the world as if everyone is out to get her. She is always looking for hidden meanings or slights against her and has difficulty trusting in others. She has difficulty letting things go and is constantly holding onto the past.
This is also characterized in her closest relationships. The relationship with her own children, for example, Lakebreeze was controlling and unable to relax as she feared that someday the two kits would also turn against her. Lakebreeze is not only controlling in her relationships but unable to see her own fault in them when they fall apart as in her world view, she is always right.

kithood [ 0 - 6 moons ] >
   Lakekit was born healthy and strong, the only kit to two warriors Cottonear and Troutleap. Cottonear never really cared for kits before but did her best to help raise Lakekit for the sake of her mate who did love kits.
Cottonear became more apathetic towards how Lakekit grew, and once weaned she started spending more and more time away from the nursery, eventually swapping out to leave Troutleap as the queen while she returned to her warrior duties.
Troutleap adored his daughter greatly, he found that he could never say no to her. He spoiled Lakekit and promised to look out for her always.
As Lakekit grew, she became more entitled and bratty, this made it difficult at times to make friends. Lakekit eventually figured out ways to get the other kits to play with her, sometimes with threatening to tattle on them for something, other times she feigned interest in them. Lakekit never made any real friends during her kithood, but she never saw a need too either. She always managed to get everything she wanted, what more could she need?

apprenticeship [ 6 - 12 moons ] >

Lakepaw was made an apprentice and assigned to an older tom named Adderthroat. He was goofy and loving, he treated her almost like his own kit sometimes. She found him to be ridiculous at times but came to enjoy having him as her mentor. Most importantly, she was excited to see everything around the territory and enjoy being an apprentice at last.
Lakepaw knew cats were hungry, that prey was scarce. But she always had enough to eat herself and didn’t really notice or care how the famine was affecting her clanmates.

[Sprucestar’s death] 6 moons

Not even one moon into her apprenticeship, a clan meeting was called. Lakepaw stuck by her mentor’s side as Sprucestar addressed the clan. Everyone was so worried about the famine still, and Adderthroat seemed particularly upset.
After the meeting, Adderthroat promised to take Lakepaw hunting but said there was something he needed to do first. That was fine, she could wait.
Adderthroat confronted Sprucestar, he blamed her for the famine that had killed so many, including his own brother. At once the clan erupted into chaos, everyone started arguing and Sprucestar tried to have Adderthroat exiled. Lakepaw watched this chaos and confusion without understanding what was happening. Her clanmates were fighting and Adderthroat… Adderthroat tore Sprucestar’s throat out in front of everyone. Their clan leader died, and for some reason was not revived by Starclan.
Lakepaw tried to go to Adderthroat, but was stopped. The next she saw of her mentor, he had been fatally wounded by one of their clanmates. Adderthroat bled out on the ground in front of Lakepaw, apologizing to her at the very end.

[end]

Lakepaw was reassigned to Roseflurry. Roseflurry was kind and comforting, taking things slow to help Lakepaw get back on her feet. Lakepaw couldn’t seem to process her grief, Adderthroat had died in front of her and she still didn’t really know why. Was he in Starclan now? Or was he a dirty traitor?
Roseflurry didn’t have the answers, but she did what she could to help Lakepaw anyway.

[Hailclan’s attack] 7 moons

A group of Hailclan cats ambushed Emberclan camp, Lakepaw jumped into action to help defend her clan. She soon found herself locked in battle against a red-furred apprentice who was a few moons older than herself. The Hailclan cat threw insults at her, accusing her and her clanmates of being codebreakers and evil.
Lakepaw lost her temper and lashed out at him, but a part of her wondered if he was right. Sprucestar only had one life, Adderthroat thought she had brought a curse upon the entire clan… Were they all cursed? Were they being punished as codebreakers?
Lakepaw managed to scrape by and win her battle against the apprentice through sheer aggression. She had the other apprentice pinned and screamed at him that he was wrong, that there was nothing wrong with her or her clan.
Lakepaw left the battle with a few new scars.

[end]

Roseflurry was proud of Lakepaw for her effort. And that… That meant the world to her. Lakepaw basked in the praise and wanted to earn more. Lakepaw doubled her efforts in training and did her best to push the thoughts of what the Hailclan cats had said and what happened with Adderthroat from her mind.
It kept her up at night, the image of Adderthroat with blood on his teeth, or him bloodied… Her clanmates struggling and fighting all around her and the facts that… Some of them really were evil. She couldn’t trust them… But she was pretty sure she could trust Roseflurry, and maybe even that apprentice she’d met Hurricanepaw.

[Journey] 8 - 10 moons

The clans had somehow come to an understanding. Despite the attack on their camp, and everything that had happened… Emberclan would work with the other three clans to save all four of them.
This meant, that Lakepaw was forced to say goodbye to the only home she’d ever known, to follow her clanmates to the old territories. Lakepaw was less than thrilled. She didn’t want to go, couldn’t the other three clans go and let them have all the territories? Then there’d be enough food and she wouldn’t have to leave. But alas, Lakepaw didn’t really have any say in the matter.

Roseflurry died shortly after the journey began. The kind she-cat went to Starclan, she was just… Too weak to survive the journey. Lakepaw hated her for it.
Lakepaw was again reassigned, this time to a young she-cat named Lilydrop. Lakepaw, however, was done, she was through with losing her mentors after just one moon. Why should she bother with Lilydrop when she’d be dead before long anyway.

Lakepaw became angry and resentful. She took out her frustration on her travelling companions. One day, almost getting into an altercation with a Hailclan warrior. Lakepaw refused to apologize and continued goading the warriors on, and the headstrong Hailclanner refused to back down. Thankfully, though Lakepaw would never admit it, she was spared by others stepping in and separating them.
The warrior was scolding by their clanmates, while Lakepaw received a scolding from her own. But it wasn’t fair, Lakepaw yelled at them and refused again to apologise. She had nothing to be sorry for and didn’t trust or respect her own clanmates enough to listen to them.
Lilydrop stepped in this time, taking Lakepaw aside to end her tantrum at once. Lilydrop roughly took Lakepaw by the scruff and threatened her, saying that she could ‘make it look like an accident’, should Lakepaw not quiet down and behave. Lilydrop instructed Lakepaw to go back and apologize and Lakepaw found herself too shaken to argue.

Lakepaw took to not only avoiding Lilydrop after that but counted down the days in the moon for Lilydrop to magically drop dead.

[end]

The clans arrived at the new territories and found them teeming with life. Prey was no longer an issue, and as the cats settled into their new homes they found themselves quite comfortable.

Lakepaw was disappointed that Lilydrop survived the journey. Still avoiding the other she-cat, Lakepaw took to asking other warriors to practice with her. She had to learn to hunt and to fight somehow, and there was no way she could stand learning from Lilydrop.

Oceanstar then passed, leaving Sorrelstar to take over. But Lakepaw didn’t really feel like anything had changed. She’s still stuck with a mentor she hates as much as her mentor hates her. She’s still trapped in a place impossibly far from the place she was born. She still felt alone and couldn’t trust any of her foxhearted clanmates to help in any meaningful way.

Lakepaw learned to sleep through the night again, to forget about Adderthroat and Roseflurry as best she could. It was the only way she felt she could get on with her life. Cats were always mad at each other for being jerks, at her for not behaving or getting along with her fellow apprentices. But if there was one thing she learned, it was that cruel cats like Lilydrop could live forever, while kind-hearted cats died for nothing. She’d rather be alive then have friends any day.

warriorhood [ 12 - 47 moons ] >

Lakepaw was given the name Lakebreeze for her agility. She was finally free to do as she pleased, never again would she have to put up with Lilydrop or any other horrible mentor situation. Instead, she could enjoy her freedom and spend time working on the things she enjoyed.
Unfortunately, her reputation was damaged by the issues she’d had as an apprentice. No one seemed to really… Respect her or congratulate her on her achievements. As shallow as it was, Lakebreeze craved validation. To her, it was a travesty that no one would do that.
Lakebreeze decided to try her luck working with her younger clanmates, she found them easier to trust as they hadn’t a chance to really do things wrong yet, and she felt that she would be an amazing role model for any young cat to follow.
Now if only she had her own apprentice.

Sorrelstar died due to birthing complications. Otterstar was made leader, and while Lakebreeze didn’t care much for either she-cat, she worried a little that Otterstar was too young to properly lead Emberclan.
Lakebreeze had to watch as other cats younger than her as they got apprentices, mates, so on… It wasn’t fair that cats like Cobraleap were beloved and trusted above cats like herself. She became very resentful of her clanmate.
Lakebreeze always did her best to prove herself, she always worked hard and she overcame everything that was thrown at her. She’d survived and proved herself to be a loyal warrior of Emberclan, so why was all of her hard work and effort being ignored?
Lakebreeze found that she wasn’t alone in her feelings of jealousy. She became fast friends with a tom named Lavenderwing. She’d hung out with him before he was a warrior, but now she liked that they could relate to one another a bit more. The two ranted and bonded over how wronged they personally felt. It was nice, and Lakebreeze wondered a couple of times if they could be something more, though that may have just been her wanting to have a mate like Cobraleap had.

Lilydrop finally died. Lakebreeze didn’t mourn her, the two never had a kind thing to say to each other and Lilydrop was still a jerk even after she wasn’t her mentor anymore. Lakebreeze wished she could have proved to Lilydrop that she was wrong, but now the time would never come. Lakebreeze decided that she was glad the Lilydrop was dead.

Lavenderwing died, he drowned one day after getting caught in some tangle. If this was any other cat, Lakebreeze probably would have mocked such a pathetic death. What respectable Emberclan warrior drowns of all things? But… It was Lavenderwing, her friend. She felt horrible that he was gone and just… She felt guilty for thinking such things about her friend.
Lavenderwing wasn’t the only one, many cats went missing or died, maybe that curse was back after all. Cobraleap was among the missing, and Lakebreeze didn’t really know what to think. A bit after, her mate and Lavenderwing’s brother died too.

Lakebreeze would have to do what she always did, she had to move on and try to forget. It wasn’t fair that they were dead, but it never was. She couldn’t let herself keep mourning, there was work to be done and… She was alone again. Maybe that was just her lot in life.

Lakebreeze was finally assigned an apprentice. Fennelpaw was a strange young cat, a former kittypet at that. Lakebreeze felt a bit disappointed, feeling that maybe this meant that Fennelpaw would never be as great as an Emberclan born warrior. But as the two trained, Lakebreeze decided that she could work with Fennelpaw. She could make Fennelpaw into a great warrior, and then everyone would see that Lakebreeze was a fantastic warrior and an amazing mentor. She could even teach a kittypet to be a warrior.
Lakebreeze grew to like her apprentice, though she still pushed Fennelpaw to work hard every day.
Fennelpaw was then made a warrior, given the name Fennelspark. It fit the young she-cat nicely, and Lakebreeze couldn’t be more pleased.

It was only a matter of moons before Lakebreeze would be given her second apprentice. She did such a great job training her first, how could her clanmates hope to compare. She was assigned to Reedpaw, a red tabby she-cat who also happened to be the granddaughter of Sprucestar. She should make a proud Emberclan warrior someday.

Reedpaw was very diligent and followed instruction quite well. Lakebreeze had no trouble with getting Reedpaw to train or practice, Reedpaw was eager to please her and made for a perfect apprentice.
Sure enough, Reedpaw was promoted to warrior and earned the name Reedshine. A young warrior that would serve Emberclan well in the moons to come.

[Two-leg invasion] 37 - 44 moons

The news came from across the border, Cloudclan had fled their homes into Hailclan after twolegs had abducted several of their clanmates. This was only the beginning of the four clans troubles as soon every clan hid together in Emberclan's territory.
Lakebreeze found herself beyond inconvenienced, her home overrun with strangers. She took to instigating minor attacks, declaring quietly that no cat may eat until her own clan had been fed and treating the other clan's cats with hostility. As luck would have it, her behaviour was overlooked and unpunished.
Her own clan leader Otterstar had been taken by the two-legs. She wished Minnowfin would hurry up and assume the role of leader or pass it to someone else. The clan needed a leader. But instead the clan was forced to wait out the storm until Otterstar and the other captured cats were returned. It was quite a hefty gamble, as not all cats who were taken came back, but Minnowfin and Emberclan got off lucky, as Otterstar did manage to return.

Lakebreeze was beyond relieved when the other clans finally returned to their own territories. Everything goes so much smoother when Emberclan only has to look after themselves.

[End]

 Lakebreeze met a rogue named Moss. It was common for couples who couldn't conceive to use rogue donors or surrogates for their kits, and Lakebreeze thought nothing of having a bit of fun with a random tom. She hadn't planned on having kits, but upon receiving the news that she was indeed carrying kits inside of her, Lakebreeze would pass it off as if that had been her intention all along

queenhood [ 47 - 53 moons ] >
    Lakebreeze she carried a lot of mixed feelings about kits. On one hand, she'd never really wanted kits and would much rather spend her time proving her own self worth as a warrior than as a parent. On the other... She prays to Starclan that they will be healthy and strong, that they will love her and never leave... That she could protect them from dangers both inside and outside the clan.
On the outside, Lakebreeze wears her pregnancy like a shield. She boasts her soon to be family that will be the pride of Emberclan. She plans to give them good strong names, names that would encourage confidence, respect, and fear. Perhaps something like Lion or Tiger? Maybe Flame or Storm? Lakebreeze realized she'd just have to wait to see them in person before deciding on their names.

Fireflykit and Cricketkit were born tiny and helpless. Fierce names just wouldn't suit such small cats. Hurricanewatcher assured her they were strong and healthy, the queen tried to trust his judgement but it was difficult to believe. Lakebreeze named the pair for the bugs she used to watch and chase back when she was a kit herself. She was quite proud of her two small bundles, very protective over them as well. In equal parts, she was confident they would be perfect warriors and do her proud, as she was terrified for what would become of them. How could she trust any of her clanmates with her precious bundles? How could she make sure they were strong enough to handle being a warrior. So many terrible things could happen to them now...

Lakebreeze spent as much time as she could trying to teach her kits, trying to prepare them. But they just... She couldn't understand them at all. How could they not want to play or practice or swim? Didn't they see they needed to learn, that if they just tried it they'd be great at it?
All she wanted was for the two to grow up and be great, but they were so unsure all the time. Inwardly Lakebreeze blamed the other queens, surely it was there fault her kits were second-guessing themselves so much. They didn't believe her that Cricketkit and Fireflykit would be the best the clan had ever seen. She could see it in their smug faces. Why... She oughta...

No... Be patient, relax, try again in the morning. Cricketkit and Fireflykit would get there, they would be great regardless of anything else.

warriorhood [ 53 - 60 moons ] >

Cricketpaw and Fireflypaw were made apprentices and Lakebreeze moved back into the warrior's den. She was excited, her kits were growing up and now she could join them on patrols and help them train. Surely now they would accept her lessons?
Of course, she wasn't their mentors, but their mentors had no clue what they were doing. They were young and inexperienced, they didn't have any idea what Cricketpaw and Fireflypaw needed. And... If they were anything like her own mentors, could they even be trusted around her kits?

Over the next several moons, Lakebreeze watched Chaffinchtail and Aspenbriar very carefully. Distrust and suspicion guided every encounter she had with them. No way would one of those cats get the chance to hurt Fireflypaw or Cricketpaw...
Aspenbriar worried her greatly, as she and Cricketpaw tended to butt heads and argue more often than not. It reminded her vaguely of her relationship with Lilydrop, but no amount of pushing would get Cricketpaw to admit that Aspenbriar had done anything wrong yet.
In fact... It seemed her kits weren't willing to open up to her about much at all these days. It stung to find out about Fireflypaw's gender identity not for the young cat himself, but from happening upon it. Didn't they know that she would support them always?

Fireflyflicker and Cricketstorm were made warriors and Lakebreeze couldn't be prouder. She couldn't wait to congratulate them and spend time with the two of them. They could do patrols, go hunting, and she could learn more about their lives.
But the two seemed more distant than ever, neither really wanted to do anything with her whatsoever. It was... shocking. What could she do about this? What had gone wrong?

It may not be the smartest thing she'd ever done, but missing how close she used to be with her kits, Lakebreeze decided to have a second litter. The timing was all wrong, as the clan was entering a very harsh leaf-bare and the nursery really didn't seem like it could handle another litter. But Lakebreeze just wanted that love she used to get from her kits back, and how else could she prove to everyone that she wasn't a terrible mother like they all claimed?

queenhood [ 60 - present moons ] >

Lakebreeze was now pregnant with her second litter and beginning to regret certain decisions that had brought her to this point. Now, more than ever, she was alone.
Cricketstorm hated her, he had shouted at her about how awful she had been towards him and Fireflydawn while they were growing up. The words... didn't quite reach her, but the emotion scared her. Cricketstorm was angry with her, and no matter what she did or said, he would continue to resent her.
Lakebreeze took to avoiding her sons, an opposite approach then her former overbearingness. But she had no clue how she was to face them now, they just... Neither were very happy with her and she... She wanted so much to blame her clanmates for turning her kits against her but there was nothing she could do about it. It was too late. Would they ever be happy again?

Lakebreeze started to develop a cough. It wasn't uncommon in leaf-bare, for cats to get whitecough or something else. It would pass with time. Lakebreeze just had to wait it out.
Her latest interaction with Fireflydawn ended even worse than it had been with Cricketstorm. The two argued for a while, Lakebreeze surprised that Fireflydawn was actually... that he'd actually say those things to her, that this was what he really felt about her.
Lakebreeze though... she said some less than favourable things herself, telling her own kit she'd wished he'd never been born. She'd spend many moons wishing she could take that moment back, but with how things were now... It was clear that to her that nothing she did would ever work. No matter how Lakebreeze tried, she'd never earn back her kit's love and respect.

Lakebreeze continued to worsen and she began to suspect that it wasn't a common whitecough. When Drizzlesong's second litter were born and so many of her clanmates gathered to see them... It all clicked for her.
This wasn't no ordinary illness, this was planned, deliberate. She was being poisoned. It made sense that Drizzlesong would take after her mother Sprucestar, that she'd do whatever it took to secure her own kit's health... That this she-cat would kill Lakebreeze and her unborn kits so that her own would survive leaf-bare.
Once alone, Lakebreeze confronted her. Drizzlesong denied all accusations, telling Lakebreeze to lie down, that she wasn't well. Of course she wasn't well when her clanmates all conspired for her death!
Lakebreeze was forced to back down as other cats came back, in her state she'd never be able to take them should they gang up on her. Before retreating to her corner of the nursery, Lakebreeze promised that if any of her kits died because of Drizzlesong, that she'd make the black tabby regret it dearly.

Lakebreeze was soon moved to the medicine den, were at last after a difficult pregnancy she gave birth to three kits. By no means were they healthy, but they were alive.
Lakebreeze named them after cats she trusted, the only three cats she knew that had her back before their deaths. Flurrykit, after her kind mentor Roseflurry, the only cat to really say she was proud of Lakebreeze. Adderkit, after her first mentor Adderthroat, a tom who smiled and cared for her, but lived up to the strength his name carried. And Lavenderkit, after her dear friend Lavenderwing.
Flurrykit, Adderkit, and Lavenderkit... Oh, how cruel it was that she'd have to watch them die just like their namesakes. She prayed dearly for Starclan to spare them most nights. But on others, she just prayed for her departed loved ones to look after them in the afterlife.

Lakebreeze watched cats come and go from the medicine den. She still couldn't trust them, and often made herself stay awake at all hours to keep watch.
Around her, the clan grew restless under Wildstar. Wildstar soon declared war against Cloudclan, leading Marshclan and Hailclan to choose sides. Bloody battles and war was just around the horizon now, but Lakebreeze's concern was elsewhere.

Her three kits grew stronger, much to Lakebreeze's amazement. She thanked the stars for sparing them. But her gratitude soon faded as her kits were moved to the nursery, leaving her in the medicine den without them.
Lakebreeze was enraged, frustrated, and grieving. She knew that now, one way or another, she'd never be able to see her kits again. The visits from Fireflydawn would stop completely and her classmates would surely keep her youngest three away from her.
Curiously Lakebreeze received visitors in the form of her kits new denmates. First Sleetkit, one of Drizzlesong's sons. Then Stoatkit, an odd kit from Shellsky's litter. The two toms seemed to trust her, and took her words to heart. She took glee in knowing how her encouragement could lead to heartbreak in the two kit's families. It was a hollow victory, but still a victory none the less to get back at those who had left her like this.

Lakebreeze passed on in early green-leaf, her youngest three kits only two moons old.

Relationships

Reedshine {Apprenitce | Emberclan | Alive}

  Reedshine has come far, Lakebreeze can't help but feel proud of her apprentice, even if they don't always agree on everything.
Nowadays, being one of  Drizzlesong's children makes Reedshine one more cat that Lakebreeze can't trust.

Fennelspark {Apprenitce | Emberclan | Alive}

    From kitty-pet to a fully-fledged warrior, Lakebreeze takes pride in being apart of Fennelspark's journey.
They've lost touch over the moons, leaving Lakebreeze to feel almost abandoned by her former apprentice.

Cricketstorm {Kit | Emberclan | Alive}

  Cricketstorm has grown up quite a lot. She's... proud of him and will always love him. But the two of them had an argument and... She's not sure they'll ever be on good terms. Why can't her oldest kits understand what she did? Had she really been so wrong?

Beantoe {??? | Emberclan | Alive}

  How can she even begin to trust any of these cats? Beantoe was probably one of the first to turn Cricketstorm and Fireflydawn against her!

Roseflurry {Mentor | Emberclan | Dead}

  She was very kind. It seems that those sorts of cats never survives long.

Fireflydawn {Kit | Emberclan | Alive}

  Fireflydawn has come into his own a lot recently. Lakebreeze will... always be proud of him. But she can't seem too... She said some hurtful things to Fireflydawn to earn his hate. But Lakebreeze still can't understand why Fireflydawn wants tot to interfere/ruin with her relationship with her second litter.

Flurrykit {Kit | Emberclan | Alive}

  Out of the three kits in her most recent litter... Flurrykit seems the strongest and most confident. Lakebreeze feels closest to her daughter out of all her kits and prays desperately that Flurrykit survives.

Lavenderkit {Kit | Emberclan | Alive}

  Lavenderkit is her youngest and weakest kit. He's never uttured a word and Lakebreeze fears he never will. She vows to do her best by him, but she's not very hopeful for his future.

Adderthroat {Mentor | Emberclan | Dead}

  Did she ever really know him? Even now it's complicated to say just how she felt about him. He died a traitor, but before then he was just her ridiculous mentor. I guess you can never really know anyone for sure.

Lilydrop {Mentor | Emberclan | Dead}

  ...And good riddance. Lilydrop was a horrible mentor, threatening to hurt her, dissmissing anything good about her, treating her as a burden, and so on. There was nothing good about her relationship with Lilydrop.

Adderkit {Kit | Emberclan | Alive}

  Adderkit is affectionate and naive. He's usually more interested in listening to stories than playing, but Lakebreeze doesn't mind indulging him. It's the least she could do for her sickly kits.

Hurricanewatcher {??? | Emberclan | Alive}

 Hurricanewatcher was once considered a friend, but now as Lakebreeze grows even more distrustful she's starting to question everything.

Lavanderwing {Friend | Emberclan | Dead}

  Lavanderwing was a great guy, he actually understood a lot of how she felt and had a lot of the same drive. But he died too soon, and they never could figure out what they were to each other.

Cobraleap {Clanmate | Emberclan | Dead}

  Lakebreeze had know Cobraleap since the two had been kits. Cobraleap was a couple of moons younger than her, but for some reason or another, Lakebreeze often felt jealous of the other she-cat. Cobraleap got an apprentice before she did, Cobraleap got a mate before her...
And then Cobraleap joined Starclan before she did. Maybe being first isn't everything.
