The kemonomimi spiders of his world are born with several vestigial limbs, but he was born without any, which caused much rejection in his family, and even his father suspected an infidelity of his mother. The color of Salem's hair and the colorful tail did not help much, until his grandmother revealed that her family was not "100% pure spider".

He has a twin sister named Nayk, she has 4 vestigial limbs. Salem believes she stole her vestigial limbs when they were in the egg, but he cares a lot for her.
