Profile
A Sailor Between Two Homes
"The best reward to receive for my cooking is an earnest smile. Nothing more!"
Hiroshi is one of the main characters in "Shokugeki no Kimiko". He is the son of Megumi and Isami. Through his mother's influence Hiroshi has grown into a chef who puts the satisfaction of the customer above all else. His talents have brought him to Totsuki Academy. However, Hiroshi's gentle and considerate nature sometimes almost feels out of place on this merciless school.
In recent years, Hiroshi has become a bit doubtful of his own talents and abilities. It almost appears as if his focus has diverted to the practice of being a good sous chef instead of working on his own creations. But at the same time, he is not willing to give up completely and leave.

Personality
Hiroshi is a soft-spoken and rather timid young man. On a school like Totsuki where it's all loud flaunting and thoughtless challenging, a guy like Hiroshi tends to fade into the background rather easily. He does not seem to mind this however, as Hiroshi rarely makes any significant attempts to get people's attention. He dislikes conflict and tries to avoid it as good as he can. Instead, Hiroshi tries to meet everyone he encounters with courtesy.
Whoever does end up in an actual conversation with Hiroshi is usually quick to note that Hiroshi is incredibly friendly and helpful. Many of the people who are closer to Hiroshi greatly value his gentle and caring nature. Hiroshi is deeply empathetic and very attentive towards the people around him. He is always ready to hold out a helping hand to whoever is in need of it, even if they might have not even explicitly asked for it. Because Hiroshi is actually really good at reading people. He is often quick to notice whether someone he's close to is sad or upset, even with people that try to hide what they feel. Hiroshi also has a good understanding on how to approach people and offer them any kind off solace without making them uncomfortable.
He cares a great deal about other's well-being. When it comes to Hiroshi's own well-being however, Hiroshi is a lot more reclusive. Hiroshi fears it would be incredibly bothersome for others to deal with whatever problems or worries he is having. So in order to avoid that, Hiroshi hides any signs of sadness from others and also keeps whatever anxiety-ridden thoughts that are plaguing him behind closed doors. People going out of their way to help him out tends to result in Hiroshi feeling guilty and pressured to live up to their helpfulness. He would want to pay it back somehow, even if he himself would never ask for that whenever it's the other way around.
As someone with a tendency to get nervous rather easily, Hiroshi does not like to be thrown in very tense situations. He can be intimidated rather quickly. This tends to be a bit of a problem on a school like Totsuki. While part of him can't help but to admire them for their strength and bravery, Hiroshi often also worries for his much more challenge-enthusiastic friends who get caught up in battle after battle. Having grown rather doubtful of his own abilities over the years, Totsuki's more brutal challenges can often result in Hiroshi panicking. When not ignored, he is therefore often meet with either scorn or pity by the students of Totsuki. Many have the mindset that a persona like him can not survive for too long in Totsuki's warzone-like enviroment and brush Hiroshi off as someone destined to fail at some point. It does not help that Hiroshi usually sticks around his much more bold and fiery cousin, who tends to unknowingly overshadow him as well. Due to his lack of confidence, Hiroshi usually lets others take the forefront. He quickly disappears behind his cooking partners and while he does his very best in assisting them, he barely brings himself into it at all.
Despite all that however, people should not underestimate the endurance and commitment that Hiroshi really has. Because despite all sleepless nights that Hiroshi suffers because of his worries and despite everyone else's doubts, the one thing that Hiroshi does not do is to simply give up. He does stick to an aim to make it through Totsuki (without seriously troubling anyone in the process).
Hiroshi is highly valued by the people he is close to and does not even really know that himself. His endeavours in helping are usually very much appreciated and almost all of Polar Star would agree that he has a certain power to connect people as well, as it was basically Hiroshi who got the 115th Generation members of Polar Star Dormitory to befriend each other. He may often act as a voice of reason, but is still fun to be around. Hiroshi is a lot more talented than what many like to believe or what he himself believes at the moment. A few people take note of that and are determinded to bring that potential of his out for everyone to see.
Cooking-Style
Hiroshi's care for others also shows in the food he makes. Following his mother's culinary philosophy, Hiroshi's cooking prioritizes the individual customer before all else. Being mindful of likes, dislikes and whatever else might be on the customer's mind, Hiroshi aims to make anyone feel better with his cooking in some way and his dishes are described to have a very comforting effect on whoever eats them. Hiroshi does not want to score with any fancy impressions via visual appeal or expensive ingredients, he goes straight for a person's heart.
Hiroshi is most proficient in the area of Japanese cuisine but does also have a fair share of understanding for Italian cuisine as well thanks to his father's side of the family. This can lead to small fusion elements in his dishes.
Given the fact that he is from a port town, Hiroshi prefers to work with fish and seafood. As an avid gardener, he also very much enjoys to put all the vegetables he has grown to use.

Story
Childhood
Hiroshi grew up in the Tohoku-region, in the small port village where his mother originates from to be exact. He spent his childhood in a very loving community and was raised by two very dedicated parents. For the rare instances that both of them were away he usually was taken care of by his grandmother. From a rather young age on, he often spent his time either helping out in his mother's Ryokan or fishing with the local fishermen. Thanks to Isami having a very deep bond to his twin-brother, Hiroshi was able to grow close to his uncle, aunt and specifically his cousin as well despite them living in a different nation.
Pre-"Shokugeki no Hiraku/Kimiko"
Like most, Hiroshi enrolled into Totsuki at the age of 12 joining it's first year of middle school divison and becoming a member of the 115th Generation. He joined Polar Star Dormitory and notably was the first one out of the future 115th Gen dormmembers to pass Polar Star's entrance exam. Somewhere along the lines he also joined Local Cuisine RS. A year later his cousin Mika Aldini joined the school.
"Shokugeki no Kimiko"
Hiroshi gets introduced in Chapter 3, where he, like all students, returns to Totsuki after the holidays to attend the first year of highschool. Kimiko Yukihira gets to meet him in Madoka Enomoto's cooking class where the two team up and present an excellent piece of work to the teacher. The two later meet again at Polar Star Dormitory, where they find out about being in the same dorm together.
While getting worried about hearing Kimiko is having a Shokugeki already so soon since she enrolled into the academy, he still comes along to watch and support. He's also around when it gets in front of a huge crowd that Hiraku and Kimiko are in fact siblings. The next day, he asks Kimiko about her well-being when gardening.
As every highschool first year has to, Hiroshi attends the Trainings Camp and ends up in Rui Kumai's class on first day together with Kimiko and Mika. He teams up with Mika and the two put out a green dish for Rui's challenge to use yellow and/or blue ingredients. Their work greatly impresses the rest, including Kimiko.

Hiroshi goes on to pass all of the Training Camp's Challenges and completes it with the rest of his dormmates by the end. Back on Totsuki, after the holidays, when the chosen participants for the Autumn Election Premlins get revealed, Hiroshi is not among them.
Trivia
"Hiroshi" means "Tolerant, Generous", which are both traits he possesses and that are of value to both of his parents. His mother, Megumi, was the one to suggest it. His surname consists of "Aldini" which means "wise and experienced" and "Tadokoro" which means "farmland".
Most of his friends simply call him by "Tadokoro", rather than spelling out his entire surname.

When he was younger, Ryota Shinomiya gifted Hiroshi a camera which he greatly treasures! Photography has become a little hobby of Hiroshi's, which he occassionally bonds over with Yasu Ibusaki. He even visits galleries for photography once in a while!

Megumi Aldini-Tadokoro
Megumi made sure to be around her son as much as she could. She is a loving and dedicated mother who not only introduced Hiroshi to the arttof cooking, but also remains his greatest inspiration. Megumi also understands Hiroshi a little bit better than Isami does, making her the person that Hiroshi usually turns to for both advice and simple comfort. Hiroshi loves his mother a lot and tries to remind her of that whenever he can. He assists her by taking care of Maja and Nino whenever Megumi and Isami are out of the house and generally also helps out a lot with the chores. Megumi is safe-assured that Hiroshi will find his footing at Totsuki eventually, just like she did. She praises him without ever making him feel too pressured.
Isami Aldini-Tadokoro
Isami can't help himself but be a little worried over the lack of confidence Hiroshi has. From time to time, he attempts to subtly build it back up. It saddens him how much of his potential Hiroshi locks up in himself, as Isami feels that he could be capable of so much more. He doesn't always manage to dig through Hiroshi, who does value his father's support and encouraging words but can't help but to worry that he won't be living up to it. Hiroshi admires his father and has a lot of memories with him to fondly look back to. Isami always makes sure that his sons and his daughter get to have a lot of fun and often goes out with them for various activites. He always knew how to cheer Hiroshi up from having dropped his ice cream cone.
Nino Aldini-Tadokoro
Hiroshi often took care of his younger siblings in the past and also makes sure to spent a lot of time with them, whenever he's back from Totsuki. While Nino does make a few jokes on his expense, it's not much of a big deal since Nino makes jokes on everyone's expense. He looks up to his older brother and is always eager to show him his improvements in cooking whenever Hiroshi is back. Hiroshi always patiently sits down and watches what Nino wants to show him, patting his head and praising him afterwards.
Maja Aldini-Tadokoro
Maja loves Hiroshi a lot and calls him at least once a week when he is on Totsuki to tell him about her week and let him tell about his. She's usually the first one to hug him once he is back from Totsuki and immediatedly asks him a waterfall of questions. Hiroshi spents a lot of time with his siblings when home and pays a lot of attention to everything Maja says and everything she wants to show him. He even teaches her about fishing.
Mika Aldini
Despite growing up in different countries, Hiroshi has always remain close to his cousin. Whenever his family visited hers, or her's visited his, both of them got very excited and were basically inseparable during the time of the visit. Mika and Hiroshi found themselves a lot of activities to bond over, primarily cooking of course, and they never got bored off each other. Mika was always a little overprotective over Hiroshi and that doesn't stop once they are teenagers. When on Totsuki, the two can almost always be met together and usually work together as cooking partners as well. Sometimes Hiroshi is a bit embarrassed by a few of Mika's antics or worries about her due to all the fights she gets pulled into, but he definitely also admires her a lot. Mika would walk through fire for Hiroshi meanwhile and always signs him the highest of praises. What Mika fails to notice however is that it is often her herself who tends to overshadow him due to the bold, fierce presence she has.
Takumi Aldini
Takumi always made sure to keep in contact with his brother's children even when they are seperated. Whenever they meet up, he spents a lot of time with Hiroshi, Maja and Nino and excitedly asks about updates on their life. He often makes it clear to Hiroshi that he is only a call away and that Hiroshi can ask him for advice whenever he needs it. Takumi can be a bit much for Hiroshi at times, but he does greatly appreciate him at the end of the day and always looks forward to meet him. He admires Takumi's confidence and it also sends a smile on Hiroshi's face when he sees Takumi interact with Isami. Seeing how close the two brothers remain despite living in different nations is very heartwarming to Hiroshi.
Ikumi Aldini
Ikumi adores Hiroshi and thinks he is quite relaxing to spend time with. She praises him a lot and is very thankful for the help in the kitchen that Hiroshi offers her whenever his family visits Italy. Hiroshi loves his aunt a lot as well. Sometimes her temper worries Hiroshi a little bit, but as he knows about her soft side he gladly offers her to bake something with him or gifts her romance movies on her birthday. He thinks shes all-around an amazing, admirable woman.
Kanichi Konishi
Kanichi is Mika's godfather and so Hiroshi got to meet him quite a few as well. More than often, little Hiroshi would offer Kanichi encouragements and assure him on what a skilled man he is on little family-get-togethers, which definitely warmed Kanichi's heart. Mika and Hiroshi often visit Kanichi during their time in Totsuki and chat a bit with him about their life. Much like Ikumi, Kanichi thinks that Hiroshi is adorable and he often points out his similarities to his mother to Hiroshi.
Kojiro Shinomiya
Kojiro is Hiroshi's godfather and someone that he tends to turn to when he's in need for blunt, unfiltered honesty. While Kojiro's rough tone can intimidate Hiroshi a little bit from time to time, he ultimately knows that he has other sides to him as well. Kojiro tries to not make it too obvious but he does try his best to be a good godfather to Hiroshi. He makes sure to let Hiroshi know that he can turn to him anytime when in need for help.
Hinako Shinomiya
Hinako thinks of her godson Hiroshi as one of the most adorable, little boys out there and she's not afraid to say it. When they see each other, Hinako typically cuddles Hiroshi a lot or ruffles his hair. Hiroshi tends to feel a bit overwhelmed but overall he appreciates her affection. Hinako also taught Hiroshi a whole lot in the culinary field and he always loved to learn from her and holds her advice in pretty high regard.
Ryota Shinomiya
Hiroshi always thought of Ryota as someone very fun and would nearly all of Ryota's endless jokes back when he was young. Much like his mom, Ryota think sof Hiroshi as the epitome of cuteness and he loves to squeeze his cheeks. They bond a lot over photography and Ryota even gifted Hiroshi his most treasured camera
Aina Shinomiya
Hiroshi always thought of Aina as one of the coolest people he has ever met. He looks up to her. She likes telling him all kinds of stories, which he attentively listens to, and also advices him on Japanese cuisine from time to time. Aina, much like the rest of her family, adores Hiroshi and occassionally writes him letters to ask how he's doing.
Noboru Shinomiya
Noboru always liked to spend time with Hiroshi because it made him feel like he could be the big brother for once. Noboru more than often tried to offer Hiroshi lots of tips in cooking when they were younger, which Hiroshi appreciated. On Totsuki, Noboru tries his best looking out for Hiroshi from a far and speaks up for his participation in the Autumn Elections. Knowing Noboru a lot longer than most people on Totsuki, Hiroshi has a pretty casual way of talking to him which tends to surprise people, since most others consider Noboru rather intimidating on first sight.
Kimiko Yukihira
Hiroshi is the first person Kimiko truly gets to know on Totsuki. They met in Madoka Enomoto's class and paired up. Later Kimiko found out that Hiroshi stays at the same dorm as she does. Due to Hiroshi's gentle and kind nature, Kimiko quickly grows to like him. Hiroshi on the other hand is amazed by Kimiko's skills and talents while also being fond of her cheerful personality. He has troubles keeping up with Kimiko's quick decisions and reacts shocked when he hears about her Shokugeki with Takayuki Hojo. But he does try to support and assist her whenever he can. Next to that, he's the calm regulator between her and his cousin Mika Aldini. While often worrying over all the fights she keeps getting herself pulled into, he still admires her greatly and wishes her all the best. What Hiroshi doesn't know is that Kimiko is just as amazed by him the other way around.
Yasu Ibusaki
In his first few weeks of living at Polar Star, Yasu sticked mostly to his childhood friend Chieko. Hiroshi was the first other person in Polar Star who Yasu got closer to. He quickly grew to like the kind and also calm Hiroshi, while Hiroshi on the other side got Yasu to open up more to the others. They still remain close and often can be seen somewhere on the side when their dormmates are immersed in their wild antics. They also like to spent their time together checking out Japanese restaurant and or bond over their shared love for photography.
Chieko Marui
Chieko and Hiroshi get along well. Chieko greatly appreciates Hiroshi's calm presence within the dorm as well as the fact that he never broke anything in her room. Like many other members of the dorm, Chieko would describe him as "an actual angel". Chieko offers him help for studies should he ever need it and he often praises her for all the knowledge she posseses. He thinks her intelligence is definitely very admirable.
Hideyoshi Kawashima
When first meeting Hiroshi, Hideyoshi was rather impolite (as ever so often). Hiroshi however digged through him despite the first impression and the two ended up becoming friends. While Hiroshi sometimes gets nervous over all of Hideyoshi's loud bragging, he still likes him none or less and Hideyoshi likes him as well. Due to seeing him as "too pure for this world", Hideyoshi even developed a slight sense of protectiveness for Hiroshi over the years.
Daisuke Aoki
Daisuke and Hiroshi are pretty much on the same wavelenght and always got along quite naturally. Daisuke was also the first person for Hiroshi to meet on Totsuki as they teamed up in cooking class and later walked to the dormitory together. They appreciate each other and enjoy the other one's company.
Satoshi Isshiki
Satoshi has a good look on all of the children in the dormitory and that of course includes Hiroshi. Hiroshi greatly appreciates Satoshi and has quickly recognized his as a trustable person he can turn to everytime. Satoshi makes sure to be there for Hiroshi whenever he knows that he needs it. He also notices Hiroshi's insecurities and current problems of often getting overshadowed.
Madoka Enomoto
Madoka is Hiroshi's teacher and she is well-liked by him. She also likes him as well and thinks of him as one of her favorite students next to Kimiko and Chieko. She greatly appreciates his work and he also left a very good impression on her on the first day of higschool with his teamwork with Kimiko.
