Profile

Natsu has a very bright, open personality. She is a near eternal optimist, always making the best of a bad situation and sure that things will get better. (She very nearly loses this trait in KH, but it returns sometime before KH II.) She has a bit of a temper, and it flares the highest when those she loves are in danger. She is slightly naive and has a little more than an intermediate understanding of how the world works. Sometimes things go way over her head. She is very adventurous, always eager to explore a new place (especially if it's a new world). She is also highly impulsive and tends to act before she thinks. She is compassionate towards others and fiercely loyal to her friends. She is very stubborn, and once she has made a decision about something it is very hard to sway her.

STORY:

Natsu and Haru were born 10 minutes apart on the summer solstice (prompting their names, as they were born "as spring became summer"). Natsu early on took after her mother's adventurous nature, and more often than not it was she who led the twins in exploration. She loved watching the castle guards train, and would often express her desire to fight like them. She had trouble with magic, which probably fueled this desire. The guard captain Angeal let her hang around as long as possible, and his apprentice, Zack, would show her everything he knew.

Ventus is the one who meets Natsu and Haru in BbS, after crash-landing in Tafe City while attempting to return to the Land of Departure to confront Master Eraqus. He is roped into fighting the Unversed that are running rampant through the castle, and in doing so rescues the twins. Natsu immediately bonds with Ven afterward, and she manages to show him around the castle before everything goes wrong. The world itself begins suffering from some cataclysmic event soon after Ven's arrival, and he takes the girls off-world when it becomes clear that the world will not survive. He first takes them with him back to the Land of Departure, but Terra sends all three to Destiny Islands to protect them. Natsu tries to verbally defend Ven from Vanitas when he appears, and Ven protects her from the magic that Vanitas attempts to retaliate with. Ven decides that the twins can stay on the Islands, and he makes them promise to take care of each other no matter what may try to tear them apart. Natsu assures him that they will, and all three also promise to never forget each other.

Growing up on the Islands, Natsu manages to recover from the loss of her home long before her sister does and quickly begins interacting with the other children. She finds herself drawn to Riku, and after much persuasion manages to get him to teach her how to fight. The two become close friends through several sparring matches over the years, and she grows to trust him completely. She also becomes good friends with Sora and Kairi.

Natsu travels with Sora throughout the events of KH, helping him, Donald, and Goofy to lock the worlds' Keyholes while looking for their friends and defeating Heartless. She slowly has her faith in Riku torn apart as he falls to darkness, and it takes an emotional toll on her as she struggles with deciding whether the things he is saying to her are completely influenced by the darkness or not. It is only worsened when she finds out that he is the one who took Haru to Hollow Bastion. Despite her inner turmoil, she bravely stands up to Ansem during the battles against him, and she discovers that she is able to wield the Keyblade when it is knocked out of Sora's hands during the first confrontation against the Seeker of Darkness. She first summons her Keyblade, Open Door, in their return to Hollow Bastion to seal the Keyhole there. Her heart is metaphorically almost completely shattered when Riku is locked behind the Door to Darkness and in the last moments, as she swears that she'll never stop looking for him, he promises that he'll be waiting for her.

She is not permanently reunited with her sister until CoM/Days, when they are on the Islands with Kairi and the others. Natsu teaches Haru and Kairi to fight, so they won't be defenseless like they were in Hollow Bastion. She struggles with the sense that something is missing as Sora becomes forgotten to the worlds, and also tries to deal with her broken heart and her confusion about her feelings for Riku. Though absent, Natsu is a driving force behind certain events in Castle Oblivion. When the Riku Replica claims that he "already forgot" their other friends, Sora asks if that includes Natsu. The Replica's angry response prompts Marluxia to have Namine begin erasing memories of the twins as well as Kairi. For Riku, his promise to be there for Natsu when she came looking for him is part of the reason he pushes through the castle. She also appears to him briefly before he battles Ansem, giving him some of her light and encouraging him to never give up. She meets and befriends Xion during her visits to the Islands to collect seashells for Roxas, and she continues to visit long after Roxas has woken up. It is Xion who inspires Natsu to regain faith not only in Riku, but also in herself. Natsu is heartbroken when Xion reveals that she must disappear and be forgotten, and swears that she will find a way to remember again, though the memory eventually fades.

In KH II, Natsu and Haru follow Kairi to Twilight Town while escaping Axel, and the three bond easily with Hayner, Pence, and Olette. Natsu immediately clashes spectacularly with the Disciplinary Committee, Seifer in particular. After another Nobody attack, King Mickey appears and aids them. In order to try and throw Axel off of their trail, Mickey starts leading them to other worlds where the Heartless have appeared but Sora hasn't shown up. Eventually, they reach Hollow Bastion while Sora, Sienna, Donald, and Goofy are there, and they all help fend off the massive Heartless invasion. Here, it is Saix who finally succeeds in capturing Kairi, with Axel attempting to help protect her. From here, Natsu journeys with Sora's group. They manage to find the restored Tafe City, and the twins reunite not only with Zack, but also with their guard captain Angeal, and their birth parents. They reveal to a stunned Sora that they are the princesses of Tafe City and not originally from the Islands like they had let him believe. Later, in The World That Never Was, it is Mickey's earlier advice which gives Natsu the ability to recognize that "Ansem" is really Riku, and the courage to admit how she feels alongside demanding that he come back home just before leaving through the portal to Destiny Islands. She panics, however, as the portal begins to close behind her, and Sora, Kairi, and Riku are left behind. Sienna ropes her into a conversation to distract her, and both end up revealing that they knew the old Keyblade wielders. When Sora, Riku, and Kairi return through the Door to Light, Natsu is overjoyed, though she attempts to play it down. Her feelings for Riku are finally revealed to be reciprocated, and the two share a special moment of their own.

During the time frame of coded, Natsu is able to truly relax for the first time in a long time. She and her sister easily reconnect with their adoptive parents, and their home lives return to relative normality. She and Riku agree to not broadcast their relationship and instead let others come to the conclusion on their own. The group of them continue their training on the play island, and Natsu focuses more on this than her schoolwork, doing just well enough to pass. Fortunately, as her grades were never particularly stellar in the first place, this doesn't raise any suspicion. As Riku begins spending more and more time at the twins' house and often sleeps over due to his parents' inability to accept the changes in him, their relationship begins to progress rapidly. Her insomnia, developed over the course of their adventure due to having to constantly be ready to fight, leads her to seek him out at night for comfort, and his tendency to suffer from nightmares leads her to stay. They end up more often than not sharing the same bed at night and sleeping curled up around each other in an effort to let the other know that they're there. Eventually, this becomes a constant. Natsu is surprised, but also relieved, at how easily Haru accepts this.

Natsu is summoned alongside Sora and Riku to take the Mark of Mastery exam in 3D. However, she does not take it alongside them—instead, she will be given a separate exam after the boys have finished theirs. She takes the chance to train on her own at the Mysterious Tower, with Mickey's help. She is highly mistrustful of Lea, even after he saves them from Maleficent and Pete. When Sora has to be rescued from The World That Never Was, she is told to stay back along with Donald and Goofy. However, the three of them find Mickey's old Star Shard and use it to perform a last-second interference, which proves to be just what was needed. She is ecstatic when Riku is named a Keyblade Master and shocked when Lea reveals that he can wield a Keyblade.

Natsu's Mark of Mastery exam takes her to Wasteland, a storybook world that Yen Sid himself created to house the former inhabitants of destroyed Forgotten Worlds—worlds so steeped in darkness that even their inhabitants are forgotten to those outside of the world. Her task is to find the source of the darkness that has begun to overrun Wasteland and seal the world's Keyhole in order to protect it. Along the way, she meets Goofy's son Max and Pete's son PJ, and the three of them quickly bond, adventuring through the world together. They also meet King Oswald and Queen Ortensia, and both are eager to help save their kingdom. Eventually, it turns out that Maleficent and Pete are attempting to take over Wasteland for themselves. After very nearly sacrificing herself and a lengthy battle, Natsu and her new friends defeat them, and she is able to seal the Keyhole. When she, Max, and PJ return to the Mysterious Tower she is named a Keyblade Master, much to her surprise. She is also surprised when she sees that Kairi and Haru are at the Tower, and excited to hear that they are learning to wield their Keyblades.

In -A fragmentary passage-, Natsu is there alongside Riku, Kairi, and Haru as Mickey tells them of how he met Aqua in the Realm of Darkness. She is nearly as angry as Riku at not being told about Aqua sooner, but she nonetheless admits that Yen Sid was right in not doing so, as she knows that if she or Riku hadn't gone after her, then Sora certainly would have. She is surprised, but nonetheless happy, to learn that she will be accompanying Riku and Mickey to finally rescue Aqua. She is wary of leaving Kairi and Haru to train with Lea, as she still doesn't fully trust him due to his actions as Axel, but simply encourages Kairi to stick with Haru and thwack Lea with her Keyblade a few times if he ever tries anything. Alongside Riku and Mickey, she receives new garments from the three good fairies that will protect her from the darkness before setting off. She also decides to leave Sora a letter telling him about Aqua and that they are going to rescue her.

In KH III, Natsu travels with Riku and King Mickey as they journey to find past Keyblade wielders. On their initial excursion into the Realm of Darkness, they fail to find Aqua and are attacked by a massive swarm of Heartless which damages Mickey's keyblade and destroys Riku's. Natsu's new mastery of her innate Light magic allows her to keep Open Door intact. After regrouping at the Mysterious Tower, they travel to Radiant Garden to deliver Kairi, Haru, and Lea's new clothes. After learning that Sora wishes to bring back Roxas, Riku realizes that Even's Replica program might be able to help them. However, Even has gone missing, presumably captured by Organization XIII for the same reason. [IN PROGRESS]
