Race: Fire Elves

Fire Elves are one of the common primary races of Althea. They comprise of roughly a third of the elven population alongside Naiads and Wood Elves.

Fire Elves, like the other elemental Elves, are deeply connected to one of the elemental gods: in this case Ignis, the Chained God. As such, Fire Elves have the natural ability to control fire magic.

While Fire Elves may have their differences when it comes to relations with humans, their societies are not as different as they may seem. They share patronage to the deity Ignis, though each has their own distinct methods of praise and lore. While humans live in fear of Ignis, Fire Elves live in reverence, seeing his volcanoes, hot springs, and fissures as holy ground. Lava, steam, igneous rock, and fire are seen as sources of power, versus sources of danger.

Fire Elves reach maturity slowly, taking upwards of a half-century before they are considered full adults and stop growing. They are suited well for both physical and magic based vocations and classes, and can be any alignment.

Desert Subspecies
In more secluded places of the realm, where other species fear to tread for lack of water, shade, or sustenance, lives a small band of Fire Elves. The hearty, nomadic elves have evolved a unique form of fire resistance--heat resistance--keeping them cool in the desert sun. While these elves are not a true species in and of themselves they share a somewhat distinctive look thanks to their difference in culture, dress, and environment.

On average, desert elves tend to have darker skin ranging from caramel to umber, which offers better protection against the sun. Their eye colors tend to be richer and more saturated, running the whole length of the visible spectrum. Desert fire elves have no natural proficiency with heavy armor which makes them easy prey in the desert sand--instead, opting for loose clothing with hoods and many airy layers with small pieces of leather or other light armor where absolutely necessary.

While most elves are much more comfortable showing skin than humans on a cultural basis, desert fire elves see clothing purely as a tool. It is not uncommon to see them shirtless or in clothing other races might consider risqué, when outside of the searing desert dunes. They will begrudgingly wear extra clothes when in the company of other races, seeing it however as a bit redundant.

Physical Description
  • Generally between 5-6' tall with pointed ears and long features (ranging from elegant and beautiful to gaunt and gangly).
  • Hair is quite silky and usually straight and fine. Reds, yellows, blondes, browns, and oranges are most common, but rarely Fire Elves may be grey, blue, or even purple.
  • Very common for Elves to decorate their faces with intricate tattoos, which are regarded as unique and personal to the individual. This is especially true for Fire Elves, who use facial markings as a rite of passage. Even children boast red, orange, gold, or even black facial markings, which may change as they age and reach other personal goals in their lives.
