Appearance

Mattie is an average height (5’8”) skinny woman with dyed strawberry blonde hair that has her natural black roots showing and brown eyes.

She prefers to dress conservatively, with long dresses, skirts and coats. She has to wear glasses, preferring oval frames.

Personality

Mattie is a person characterized by a quiet and brooding exterior and a resentful and paranoid interior. She struggles with making and keeping meaningful relationships, often feeling scared then annoyed by others. She also struggles with trusting others. She has the self-awareness to see this most of the time and decided that staying by herself is the solution. She unfortunately has a bitter temper that escalates situations far past where they needed to go. Those few who have any semblance of a relationship with her describe her as a little stiff but well-meaning, literal to a point but reliable, efficient and smart. Only she knows how regretful and sad she is about herself.

History

Mattie is the eldest of the Piccoli siblings and unfortunately holds some resentment because this. Her parents love her dearly and she loves them as well. However, she can’t help but feel jealous of her two younger siblings who got to enjoy more attention and a more lax parenting style. Not to mention how she was often responsible for them. While she tries to not hold it against them she cannot help it sometimes.

As a young adult, she ended up gripped by a terror of others that furthered her alienation not just from her family but from people in general. It was eventually deemed a psychotic disorder. Treatment helped somewhat but she still swings between desiring to be well and not seeing a problem. She remained in Italy while her siblings moved overseas.

She still has a strained relationship with her siblings. While her relationship with Martin and his family is distant yet amicable, her relationship with Konnie’s is extremely tense. The starting point was an unfortunate comment about her nephew Luigi’s untimely death (one she further regretted after his curious resurrection). She attempted some connection with Liam after his schizophrenia diagnosis but her brutally honest advice did not land well with the unstable teenager.

After this, she resigned herself to a reclusive lifestyle, immersed in her scientific career. She is unhappy about her many strained relationships but is unsure where to start to repair it.

Skills

Mattie is exceptionally smart, skilled in matters of math and science. She’s extremely reliable, often to a fault, starting a task and not stopping until its finished.
