Profile

  • Biological first son of Hugo and Aveline, siblings are Shaye, Marit, Nico, and Inge
  • Age is 26, was born with a scattering of birthmarks across his body that look like small oddly shaped freckles and is what he is named for
  • Spent the first 15 years of his life as an only child and watched how his parents deeply wished for a large family, so when they began to adopt his siblings he dedicated himself to being the best older brother he could for all of them
  • Values family deeply but when it came time for him to take up an apprenticeship or to begin being mentored in the running of the inn he admitted to his mother that he didn't feel as if the inn was where he saw his future and confided that he feared that meant he'd somehow be failing the family or leaving them behind in pursuit of something else. Aveline being familiar with seeking out something beyond her family's reach encouraged him to seek out what he wanted in life and that they'd find a way for him to have a fulfilling life and be there for his family
  • This moment and his tendency to put his family first made his mother realize that Brice was good at putting on a pleasant face and pushing aside his own problems, and she often worries that one day that mentality will lead him to accept sadness and having less as a part of his life. So now she checks in regularly with him, making sure he is still seeking out what he wants in life and isn't compromising for the sake of those he holds dear
  • Has an affinity for animals, often having snuck off the the stables next to the inn while claiming the excuse of helping guests with their horses, ox, and other various animals. When not sneaking off he would often help maintain the family chicken coop, something his mother did until he was old enough to claim responsibility over their care and the maintenance of their coop. The chickens kept in the coop provide most of the eggs served in the inn and at times the chickens themselves may even become part of the evening meal. The coop is built against the wall along the kitchen and bath house, the fires fueling the kitchen keeping both the coop and bath houses warm well into winter
  • Eventually chooses to work for the stable built next to their inn, taking up an apprenticeship with the horse master in charge and taking a special interest in the horses, learning everything he could about their care, the maintenance of their spaces, and even assisted with the breeding of the few horses kept in permanent residence. The owner of the stable had no children and believed Brice would make a good heir for the stables, beginning talks with his parents when Brice began to take over the breeding work and producing horses of a quality that nobles began to take note of
  • The stable sold a few horses to adventurers, nobles, merchants, and other noteworthy individuals which boosted the reputation of the stables beyond their service to the town and local inns. This eventually drew the attention of a duke who came to the stable and offered Brice work on his lands. This marked a turning point in his life, the point where he had to weigh the importance of family with chasing after work that would bring him joy. The duke's lands were weeks of travel away and going there to work meant that there would be years of time where he would be unable to see his family and would only hear from them through correspondence that would travel for weeks before it reached him. It was his mother that eventually pushed him to consider the offer, knowing that at the age of 20 the prospect of not seeing family for years must horrify the young man but knowing too that turning it away would lead him to regret the path not followed. The reminder that his family would still be there waiting and that he would hear from them even with the distance helped him accept the offer and strike out on his own
  • His work with the duke improved the stock of the horses on his land, with those not kept being sold among the nobility and even at times sent as gifts to the king. He spent 4 years at this work until the duke passed and the family chose to sell the horses to pay the taxes during the transition of the estate. News of this reached the various nobles and even the king familiar with Brice's work and with a recommendation letter from the new heir he quickly found a place at court working under the horse master of the royal stables. The distance between him and his family lessened, but his freedom to take long trips to see them become more limited meaning letters became a cornerstone of his relationship with them
  • Work in the royal stables was difficult at first, the young man constantly having to prove himself to the horse master despite his experience and prior success. Alongside this, the royal stables handled creatures much more diverse than the mounts he was familiar with, meaning he spent much of his time learning entirely new skillsets relevant to each mount be they wyverns, red elk, peryton, a unicorn for a short period, and many others. Two years in and he feel much more confident, and while he has succeeded to win the horse master over in his work with the horses he still has many areas where he must develop his skills, even going so far as to request access to the royal libraries where books on various creatures are stored
  • Being away from his family he tries to send letters as often as he can, which means that he usually sends out a letter each week even if he knows it will be a few weeks until they receive them. It's a way to remind them that he is always thinking of them and he has heard Nico in particular likes to read the letters he sends. Given he only had a year with his youngest brother before he left, he's glad to know that he still has some connection with the young boy even after years of not seeing his family
  • His letters often include small trinkets, most often for Marit since he knows what she likes best with little decorative trinkets that travel well in a letter, but sometimes he will pack away a book for Nico, some elven trinket or notes from books for Shaye, recipes for his mother, a vial of scented oil for his father, or rocks for Inge when he has a bit of extra coin to spare
