Usvan

Sarakisha's oldest and closest friend and the only remaining founding member of their troupe. He is jaded, pessimistic and quick to anger in contrast to Sarakisha's serene naivety and optimism. While capable of the flowing dances Sarakisha prefers, Usvan is more aggressive, with sudden and harsh movements - more like he is fighting than dancing.

When Sarakisha took Ikirini on as his student, Usvan was instantly smitten. It was obvious to literally everyone and it didn't take them long to get together.

After Sarakisha and Hoani were exiled from Manhattan, their troupe's name was dragged through the mud, Usvan especially because of his close friendship with Sarakisha. Their troupe disbanded, and Usvan and Ikirini returned to the streets as buskers. Ikirini eventually became pregnant and gave birth to their son, Orkedi, who became a spoiled brat because Ikirini couldn't say no to him and Usvan couldn't say no to Ikirini.

Ikirini fell ill when Orkedi was 7 and passed away quickly. It broke Usvan, and he was never the same after. He became even more irritable and angry and even though he knew it was wrong, that he should instead protect what was left of Ikirini, he took his frustrations out on his son. After doing this for so long he felt he had no positive place in the boy's life and believes it's too late to change, so he continues to mistreat him.
