About

Childish • Mischievous • Emotional • Chaotic • Eccentric

As a software engineer, Byte used to be one of the lead programmers of the Eggman Empire, being the one in charge of adjusting the programming for the badniks and performing frequent maintenance on them, until Dr. Starline was fired from his position, prompting the goat to leave the Empire in order to find him.

After finding him, Byte offered him their services as an engineer, which Starline accepted and gave them the role of his personal assistant since he knew their capabilities due to the time they worked together in the Empire. He was kind of wary of Byte’s chaotic tendencies, but soon a great idea came to his mind; What a better way to understand the chaotic world he’s trying to control than having the chaos by his side?

Since then, Byte has been the chaotic and eccentric right-hand of the platypus, helping him in all of his tasks and missions to achieve his plan; Conquer the world for Dr. Eggman.

"Let's cause some mischief!"

Personality

Of a very playful and mischievous demeanor, Byte likes to play pranks on anyone, lie and cause mischief, being childish with slightly ill intentions to those who are around them. They love to cause problems and not facing the consequences of them, always looking for a way to get out of it without being blamed or manipulating the situation for it to look as if they were innocent. Very energetic and cheerful, Byte can be really restless whenever they're not working and always needing something to keep their mind quiet, as they have the bad habit of overthinking or imagining situations that haven't happened, making them prone to anxiety.

To add to their troublemaker behavior, Byte has a tendency to create chaos wherever they go, whether it is causing it on purpose or just by accident. Eccentric and passionate, one of the things that characterize Byte is how dedicated they are to anything that interests them, becoming loud, quick talker and oddly detailed when it comes to their interests. A teaser and a horrible influence, Byte likes to tease people or even encourage them to cause troubles, they love to sit and watch the world burning down.

Along with that, Byte has the tendency of being extremely emotive (Although they lack empathy), feeling any emotion with great intensity, which makes them to openly express their feelings, resulting in being quite easy to tell what they're feeling in that moment even if they don't say anything about it. If they are happy, they will be giddy with it, all smiles and energetic. If they're sad, they will be quiet, crying silently and not talking to anyone. If they're angry, they will be irritable, rude and with a tendency of complaining about anything and everything. If they are scared, they will start shaking and feel sick, having the urge to run away... and so on.

Despite that, Byte knows how to be mature when they need to be, they just choose not to be unless the situation requires so. Whenever they're meant to behave, they're serious and responsible, showing their true potential in whatever task they're asked to perform. Surprisingly, they're a good observer, as they like to analyze everything and everyone that surrounds them in order to know how to treat them, making them a reliable option when it comes looking for advice or the solution of a problem. In addition, they're very responsible with their job, as they always complete their tasks as soon as possible and give them priority. If they know that there's work to do, they will calm down, focus and kind of ignore their surroundings until they're done.

Abilities

Programming: Being an engineer, they know how to program and they're good at it, being able to create the code for almost anything requested as long as it's inside of the logical rules of programming.

Problem solving: They're really good at analytical thinking, which makes it easy for them to solve problems in unique and effective ways.

Multiplication: They can create a maximum of 8 semi-solid holographic clones of themselves, which allows them to do more than one thing at once.

Gravity Boots: They can activate their shoes to walk on the walls/ceiling and float some meters from the ground, but only for a limited time.

Holograms: With their gloves they can create basic holograms, mainly interactive screens and 3D figures.

-

Weaknesses

Poor stamina: Byte gets tired quite easily, making them kind of useless in field missions.

Physical Fights: They're not very resilient, fact that makes them weak when it comes to battles. Just a pair of hits and they're already hurt or out of combat.

Lack of Electricity: They need to recharge their devices in order to be able to create holographic screens and clones, if they run out of battery, they can't do anything.

Water based attacks: Their devices aren't waterproof.

• Their holograms don't last that much and they will "break" if anyone hits them.

Attacks

Chao Tackle: When they're in company of Glitch, Byte throws their chao against their enemies for them to get hit and attacked by him.

Electric shock: By establishing contact with their enemies, Byte is able to inflict an electrical shock on them. Very useful against robots.

Electro Bombs: Using their gloves, they can generate an electricity esphere that resembles a bomb and, once they throw it, it explodes as soon as it touches any surface.

Electric Force Field: They’re able to create temporal force fields around them made with the electricity from their chargers. Sometimes, they can extend that force field until they create an electrical esphere around them… one that will electrify anyone it touches.

Trivia

• They're aware that they're very short and kind of cute, so they use it on their advantage.

• Their real name is Data, but everyone calls them Byte because of their short height.

• They try to keep their workspace as clean as possible, so they don't like when someone eats in it. Despite this, they're kind of disorganized, so not everything will be on its place, but at least it'll be clean.

• They have a very bad memory which makes them to easily forget events of the past... or anything without importance that happened recently, so whenever they know they have to memorize something they write it down.

• Originally, their fur is dark brown, but when they ran away from their home they cut their hair and began to bleach their fur in order to have a new appearance that didn’t remind them of their old self. Since then, they refused to let their hair grow long, but when they moved with Starline they lost access to the Empire’s hairdresser, which forced them to cut their hair on their own, hence letting it grow longer than they prefer it to be.

• Their hair is actually tied in messy buns, when they let it down it reaches the half of their back.

• They have a very very active mind that is propense to catastrophic thinking, intrusive or anxious thoughts, so they do everything in their hands to keep themselves busy or distracted with anything. Tinkering with Badniks and their programming is part of it.

• They feel an intense love for Eggman's robots, considering them living beings, specially those who actually count with an AI.

• They have a cyborg chao modified by Starline, provided by Syntax. Said chao serves as a therapy companion for their autism.

• After they arrived to Starline's repository, they had to turn Stream off in order to keep Eggman from tracking them, fact that still makes Byte depressed from time to time.

• Since they needed to expand their skill-set in order to be a good assistant for Starline, they acceded to him teaching them how to be a mechanic, so they can finally work with hardware and machinery properly.

• Byte has high-functioning autism, which makes it difficult for them to have proper behavior in some occasions, as well as not being fully able to control their emotions and being susceptible to things such as strong smells, loud noises or certain textures. They also have the tendency to stim by flapping their hands or having repetitive body movements. Due to this, they're also prone to have anxiety attacks.

• They can be very coldhearted when needed or when they want to (Or sometimes, without even noticing it). If you hurt them, they will hurt you back, either physically... or emotionally/mentally.

• They once tried to build a backpack with four arms to use as attack and self-defense. Starline confiscated it after they almost destroyed the base.

• While they don’t like feminine things like wearing makeup or dressing with the latest fashion clothes, they still like to use frilly dresses, especially when it’s Starline who buys or designs them for them.

Boss/Lover

Dr. Starline

Byte simply ADORES Starline, everything related to him or Starline himself are super important for them. After they began to work together, Byte got the opportunity to actually meet the platypus behind that gentlemanly facade, falling deeply in love with his mannerism, mentality and personality. Byte often lends him a shoulder to cry on, especially whenever he finds himself thinking about Eggman, providing comfort to him. But not everything is colors and flowers, as Byte has the tendency of teasing Starline and being mischievous around him to Starline's dismay.

Starline, on the other hand, was annoyed by Byte due to their chaotic behavior, but soon he started to see them as an "useful asset" for his plans, starting to fakely treat them well, only to eventually get to actually appreciate them after realizing how much of himself he saw in Byte. Of course, he still gets annoyed sometimes by their mischief and continues seeing them as a valuable part of his own empire, but now he genuinely enjoys their presence and has gotten deeply fond of them.

Both are incredibly amoral and they LOVE it, sharing the same vision on the world, the same passion for Eggman and his creations and even the same mentality, which allows them to understand each other quite well. With the time they've developed a good harmony and synchronization whenever they're working together, even encouraging each other in the most vile acts.

Adoptive Children

Surge & Kitsunami

Byte was the one who worked in the base code for Surge and Kit, along with Starline doing the needed modifications and adding Belle's code for Artificial Intelligence into them. For said reason, Byte at first began to consider them as their "babies", getting attached to them as someone would get attached to their own creations.

Surge and Byte tend to get along when it comes to getting in troubles and causing chaos, they both enjoy rock music and Surge sometimes offers to give Byte makeovers, even if Byte tends to reject them. Of course, this doesn't mean they're at peace all the time. Surge’s rebellious nature clashes with Byte's obsession with being in control, creating discussions between the two.

Now, Kit and Byte are the ones who actually share a healthy relationship. Byte considers Kit a precious kid who needs to be protected, so they give him all the love and protection they can. Kit tends to find comfort in Byte, especially after he has been bullied by Surge, both relating with their anxious tendencies and spending time doing quiet activities such as drawing or machine tinkering.

Despite seeing them as her adoptive children, Byte is very aware that they're just meant to be pawns or weapons, so she doesn't mind whenever they get hurt or when she has to open them up to work on their cybernetics. Seeing them die over and over on the track made her realize that they were practically indestructible tools, making her immune to their psychological and physical pain.

Therapy Chao

Glitch the Chao

Glitch was originally a therapy chao provided by Dr. Syntax to help with Byte's autism by Starline's request, but after seeing how Byte wasn't able to take actual care of a living being that depended on them, Starline decided to modify and enhance Glitch just like he had done with Surge and Kit, implementing robotics into him and turning him into a cyborg chao that doesn't need basic care but that keeps his soft exterior for Byte to find comfort in.

Byte loves Glitch and finds him helpful and entertaining, especially when they feel the need to talk or vent to someone, but doesn't spend all of their time with him, trying to be independent from him because they don't want to depend on a therapy pet to be fine. Not to mention that Glitch reminds them of Stream, which makes Byte to be kind of crestfallen.

Glitch, on the other hand, does everything he can to watch over Byte, help them when they're having an anxiety attack and stop them whenever they're doing repetitive involuntary movements. He's also the one in charge of taking care of Byte whenever Surge, Kit and Starline leave the base since Byte can't be left alone.

Former Boss/Complicated

Dr. Eggman

Dr. Eggman has always been one of Byte’s inspirations, his magnificent intellect, his creativity, tenacity, determination and robotic skills always left Byte in awe, wanting to follow his steps and being a great robotician like him one day. While they’re not fond of his constant screaming and bad temper, Byte always managed to see the good traits of the doctor, without mentioning that she had a soft spot for him and his empire due to it becoming her home after they escaped from theirs.

Eggman, on the other hand, didn’t care for Byte that much and always saw them as just a programmer and robotic maintenance personnel.

However, after the events in Issue #50, while Byte knew that Starline’s plan had a high chance of not working, they never expected to witness such a brutal display, making the goat realize that no one should mess with the doctor and that despite his charismatic words, he didn’t care for anyone. While they don’t blame him for what happened, they still hold resentment against him that is in constant battle with their admiration for him.
