Physical Appearance: Tall and lanky. His fur is well kept, but he's usually a bit dirty from his work. Overall he's a pretty professional looking person, but it's clear he has a few screws loose. Mainly due to his facial expressions

Clothing: Usually wears his work uniform, since he’s pretty much always working. He almost always wears clothing that's blue in colour, mainly to match with the theme of his business

Expressions: Determined, thoughtful, happy

Personality

Likes: Working, stories, current events, fish

Dislikes: Secrets, competition, cleaning

Fears/Phobias:
Existentialism

Hook is a very hard worker who often gets too wrapped up in things. He usually comes off as cold or aloof because of this. While people appreciate his work ethic, they don't really like his ideals all that much. His way of thinking can come off as paranoid every now and then, which sometimes freaks out his patrons with how casual he says things. Hook is known to spout off seemingly random or bizarre sounding conspiracies in normal conversation, oftentimes saying them so casually it takes people a moment to even realize what he's just said.

Hook's work ethic goes far beyond just his bar. While he loves the tavern, he also feels the need to "uncover the truth", as he puts it. If he feels someone is keeping a secret or trying to hide something suspicious he'll go above and beyond to expose them. A true blooded whistleblower. That being said, because of his paranoia this often causes him to point fingers and make somewhat false or poorly understood accusations on people. He's a bit of a nut, to say the least, and everyone in town knows it.

Abilities

Strengths: Work Ethic

Weaknesses: Paranoia

Weapons/Tools: Hatchet

Having somewhat of an obsession with dragons, Hook has trained himself in simple magic to be able to conjure fire from his hands. It's just a small flame, and more often than not it's used for entertainment rather than utility. Many of his bar tricks involve fire in some way.

Backstory

Hook was born into one of the more well established families of Astra City. His lineage goes back several generations, which is more than a lot of the people of the city. You could say that Hook got a bit of a head start in life because of this.

His grandfather had opened up a tavern in the city when he was a teenager, and his family has been running it ever since. As a child, Hook spent a lot of time in the tavern. Sometimes doing work, sometimes hanging out with friends. He loved being in the tavern and listening to everyone's stories. There was one visitor that he liked more than the others. Astra City's 11th wizard, Vance.

Vance spent a lot of time in the tavern, usually getting drunk and goofing around. Sometimes, when he got a bit too tipsy, he'd tell stories that he probably shouldn't. One of these stories was of the great dragon Halcyon.

To the city, the great dragon was just a myth, but Vance was adamant he was real. Most folk just wrote him off as being a drunk or craving attention. Not Hook, though. Hook believed Vance wholeheartedly.

Hook picked up a lot of strange thoughts and ideals from hanging around the tavern. A child growing up around a bunch of drunks isn't exactly the best thing. Besides Vance, most of the taverns regular patrons were down on their luck alcoholics. These people often had weird or unbelievable stories, which Hook often overheard. These stories really shaped his views on the world.

Most of these people talked about how society was "out to get them" in some way or another. Being an impressionable child, Hook's opinion on the matter shifted. The world was out to get him, he had to do something about it. Not wanting to end up like these people, Hook made sure to work as hard as he could. This hard work was appreciated by his father, but the crazy stories that made him work so hard were not.

As Hook grew up, he gained more responsibility around the tavern. He was lined up to take over the business once he came of age, so his father could retire. Tavern work was second nature to him, as most of his time was spent there. Waiting tables and doing dishes wasn't his favourite, but he was good at it. Eventually Hook got old enough, and the Tavern was passed down to him.

People had mixed feelings about Hook taking over the tavern. On one hand, he was a hard worker who knows how to keep things running. On the other, he often talked about how "the wizards were secretary influencing the city for their own entertainment" or how "the great dragon Halcyon needed to be found so his existence could be proven to everyone". He didn't seem crazy, as he said all these things casually, but he came across as paranoid to many. Still, there wasn't much they could do about it. It was a family business after all.

Hook's devotion to the tavern really changed how the business ran. Unlike his father and grandfather, Hook was constantly trying to improve the place. He was afraid that, if he didn't "change with the times", the tavern would be taken away from him. It was mostly his weird way of thinking getting the best of him, but it paid off in the end. The tavern was getting busier. A bit too busy for a small family business. Hook needed help, but who should he hire?

Finding help was put in the back of Hook's mind for awhile. He had a lot of work to do, he couldn't just drop everything. Luckily, he didn't have to. One day, while unloading a recent food shipment, Hook stumbled upon a petty thief. He was the small orphan kid that was often seen prancing around the city talking about adventures.

The kid was trying to steal some fish, when Hook caught him. He was angry at first, but eventually the two came to an agreement. The kid, Hazel, would work at the tavern to pay off the stolen product. Time passed, and Hazel was brought on as a permanent staff member. Hook was glad he finally had help. Now that there was someone else who could run things, he could finally take a day or two off.

But… what to do on a day off? Hook never really thought about it. His whole life was spent working in the tavern. He didn't really have any hobbies, and all his friends also spent most of their time in the tavern too. There had to be something for him to do on his days off. That's when Hook met his new obsession. A white and gold canine named Hal.

Hal was new to the city, and already he was one of the most interesting people Hook had ever met. He wore red AND purple, meaning he was a wizard and a guard. One of a kind already, but there was something else about him that Hook found interesting. Every time he ran into Hal, he looked different. Sometimes he looked like a wolf, sometimes he was a fox. He was always white and gold, but his fur patterns were always slightly different. It was baffling! Everyone knew it was the same Hal, because of the clothing, but he always looked different! Why?

That's when Hook remembered the story of the great dragon Halcyon. Vance talked about him quite a bit. The dragon was a shapeshifter according to the legend. But this Hal guy couldn't be the great dragon himself, he was too reserved. Surely the city's ancient protector would be a bit more outgoing, right?

Hook couldn't shake the though from his head. He had to know, but he couldn't just ask Hal. If he wasn't the dragon, he'd be weirded out. If he was, Hook might scare him off by asking. He had to find out another way. Talking to his patrons got him nowhere. No one believed his claims. Hell, most people didn't even realize Hal's appearance changes.

Not being believed made Hook feel like he was crazy. He knew what he saw, but nobody else seemed to notice! Was he being gaslighted? He needed to find proof. No one would believe him without it. So, he sought out to get that proof.

That's where Hook is today. Most of his time is spent running the tavern, and his free time was spent trying to uncover the city's major conspiracy. Perhaps one day he'll uncover the truth behind this Hal person. Only time will tell. Let's just hope he doesn't go insane before then.
