Introduction

Ailithir is more often known as the Silver Sage, or the father of Solius. He is a gentle and benevolent Lunarian priest, who serves as a guiding light and voice of reason for his people. However, unknown to Solius, Ailithir has a traumatic past story of his own.

Abilities

As a Lunarian Feli, Ailithir has high magical affinity, which means that he can command strong magical powers. His magic is largely spiritual, and he focuses primarily on healing, but he can harness his powers for offensive attacks as well, such as throwing out quick blasts of magical energy that will knock back and stun nearby enemies. Other abilities include shapeshifting, as he is able to briefly disguise his own appearance, floating, and teleporting short distances.

Personality

To put it simply, he appears regal and elegant, but is sweet, gentle, and easy to bully. He loves to offer help or advice, and will extend his compassion to even those who dislike him. Although he is of noble birth, he never acts with an air of superiority, remaining friendly and approachable to just about anyone. He puts on a warm smile and calm composure, never failing to maintain perfect etiquette. He is extremely mild-mannered, and has hardly ever raised his voice in anger.

On the other hand, he harbors a crippling self-hatred and guilt issues due to the events of his past. He pushes himself to the point of exhaustion with his work, even though he is easily stressed out and sometimes overwhelmed by his responsibilities. He fears that he can never live up to his title as the Silver Sage, and that he will let his people down. As a pacifist, he strongly dislikes conflict and will do anything to avoid it, which results in him easily giving in to others.

In other ways, he's a lot stronger than he looks. He loves his people dearly and will put his life on the line to ensure their well-being. He holds a sort of quiet resolve and a stalwart optimism, coming across as stubborn or brave. He'll tough through a bad situation without the slightest complaint.

He is a doting older brother, and eventually father, and he cares deeply about his family and friends. However, he has commitment issues due his poor self-esteem, frequently doubting whether he deserves the happiness of a family and a fulfilling long-term relationship, though he rarely voices these doubts to avoid upsetting anyone.

History

Youth

Ailithir lived for the most of his youth within the Illuminated City, the capital of the Lunaris realm. By his birthright, he was chosen to become the next Silver Sage (which is basically the cat pope/high priest of his race). As the first son of the prestigious and powerful Silver family, he led a happy and uneventful life, at least for the first ten years of his existence, studying and training under the former Silver Sage. However, when he was ten years old, his mother died giving birth to his youngest brother, Sakar. To make things worse, Sakar was born with pure black fur, which basically made him the Anti-Christ of Lunarian society. His father became paranoid that Sakar's existence would be discovered, which would not only bring disgrace to their proud family name, but also put Sakar at risk of being murdered by crazy superstitious Lunarians. He locked Sakar up in a small room within their mansion, charged Ailithir with the role of taking care of him, and made him promise to never let Sakar leave the house. Ailithir grew very close to Sakar, as he was the only person other than their father that Sakar had any interaction with. Ailithir often told Sakar stories of the beautiful outside world, which ignited a deep curiosity within the younger cat. When Sakar asked Ailithir to bring him out, Ailithir could not refuse. They did not wander far, and were soon found by their father. Their father, upon discovering that Ailithir had went against his wishes and put his brother's life at risk, flew into a rage and struck Ailithir. Ailithir, who previously had never been hit or punished, was deeply traumatized by this incident.

Yet years later, Ailithir gave in to Sakar's demands to bring him outside once more since their father had left on a long trip and he was assured that no one would find out. However, in a moment of distraction, Ailithir was separated from Sakar. He searched desparately for Sakar, but could not find any trace of his brother.  Eventually, he had no choice but to give up. He returned to the mansion, but told no one of what had happened, for he was certain that his father would kill him if he found out the truth. When Sakar's disappearance was discovered, Ailithir (though wrecked with guilt) lied and claimed that Sakar must have snuck out on his own. (Ailithir was 20 and Sakar was 10 then.)

After Sakar's disappearance, his father grew even more despondent, sometimes neglecting his sons altogether. At other times, he was excessively strict and ill-tempered, such that even the smallest step out of line would incur his wrath.

Main Story

Ailithir started spending more time away from home and in the company of his mentor, the former Silver Sage, who was a close family friend as well. Rumours of unrest within the neighbouring Rhyll Dominion began to spread, which culminated in a visit from the leaders of the Rhyll. The Rhyll asked for the Lunaris to spare them some land, for their territories were slowly being encroached on by a mysterious plague that left their earth barren and their water poisoned. However, the Lunaris declined their request, for their realm was already too small and would surely be overpopulated if they allowed the Rhyll to move in.

Out of desperation, the Rhyll attacked the Lunaris realm, determined to seize the territory and save their people. As the Captain of the Lunaris Guard, Ailithir's father went away to join the war. However, the Lunaris forces were easily defeated by the far more combat-ready Rhyll. Eventually, the Rhyll army arrived at the Illuminated City, with Ailithir's father in tow as a prisoner. At the gates of the city, before an audience of horrified Lunaris (with Ailithir among them), they killed Ailithir's father and threatened the Lunaris to surrender, or they will do the same to the rest of them.

The former Silver Sage ordered what was left of the Lunaris forces to defend the city, but it was a lost cause and the city was seized overnight. The Rhyll killed and imprisoned many members of the Lunaris noble families, but Ailithir was able to escape. Terrified, lost and completely helpless, Ailithir stumbled through the wilderness for weeks, trying to survive and evade capture.

Eventually, Ailithir encountered a small group of deserters from the Rhyll Dominion, or rebels as they called themselves. They saved Ailithir from a Rhyll patrol and unaware of Ailithir's identity, they took him in, even though their leader, Caden, had his reservations. They traveled together for a few months, and Ailithir almost believed that he can start a new life with them, completely abandoning his devastated realm.  However, mistakes were made and a majority of the group was captured by the Rhyll, leaving only Ailithir and Caden behind.

Ailithir offered to help Caden to save his friends, and the two of them ventured to the nearest Rhyll outpost where they were sure the prisoners would be taken. Ailithir managed to help Caden's friends escape, but he gets captured himself. The Rhyll tortured him and demanded for him to tell them the location of a rumored secret Lunaris base, where a rebellion had begun. Ailithir, however, refused to tell them anything, so he was thrown back into a cell and left to await his execution.

Caden arrived to save him and the two of them escape. Caden confronted Ailithir about his true identity, and Ailithir was forced to accept that he could not escape from his duties as the Silver Sage. He made up his mind to return and help the Lunaris drive out the Rhyll. Caden decided to come with him. Together, they headed to the secret Lunaris base, which was located on an offshore island, and indeed they found that what was left of the Lunaris forces had amassed there.

Ailithir was reunited with some of his old friends who had escaped as well, but others were angry that Ailithir had abandoned them when their families were killed or captured. Ailithir enlisted Caden's experience in fighting the Rhyll and led several counterattacks against the Rhyll that were for the most part, victories, though they came at huge costs. Eventually, Ailithir learnt to harness Lunarian magical abilities for offensive attacks, which gave the Lunaris an edge over the Rhyll warriors. Soon, they won enough battles to carve their way back to the Illuminated City.

Ailithir and Caden teamed up to defeat the Rhyll General leading the invasion, Ghost. However, with strong regeneration abilities, Ghost was incredibly difficult to kill, refusing to die even after they had beheaded him. Since their leader was not dead, the rest of the Rhyll troops refused to surrender. To make things worse, the Rhyll High General had arrived with reinforcements in his wake. Tired of fighting and causing more bloodshed, Ailithir negotiated a deal with the High General, offering part of the Lunaris's land up to the Rhyll, much to the outrage of some of his Lunarian allies.

The High General refused and instead, asked for the Lunaris's ships, such that he might bring what's left of his people to seek out new lands where they can settle down. Ailithir acquiesced to his demands readily. With no cause to fight for anymore, Ghost finally put himself to rest, ending the war between the realms.

While most of the Rhyll departed from the continent, a portion, consisting largely of the elderly and the sick, remained behind. Ailithir constructed a small secluded village for them on Lunarian territory and promised to try and find a cure for the plague.

Caden decided to remain with Ailithir instead of leaving to travel on his own again, much to Ailithir's gratitude. They confessed their feelings for each other, but decided to keep their relationship a secret for fear of outcry from the Lunarian population.

The Future

[Note: Redacted because a lot of the stuff here isn't canon anymore; just here for my own reference]

After the war, Ailithir placed all his efforts into helping to rebuild his realm. Eventually, the realm started to prosper once more, entering a new Golden Age. Ailithir, finally able to return to his more passive role of being a priest, rebuilt his mansion into an orphanage for children orphaned during the war, and adopted a young orphaned girl by the name of Hilda. He settled down in a small cottage by the sea with his new family and all was well.

He wished.

Ailithir, on a diplomatic trip to the Hanwi Islands, encountered a Hanwi priestess. Both were fascinated by the others' powers, and after spending some time together, the two became very close. The priestess revealed herself to be Ieya, the Hanwi goddess of harvest. Ieya offered to create a child for him, a devastatingly powerful being who would be the culmination of both of their powers. Without understanding her real motives, Ailithir refused, but Ieya was adamant. One day, she simply vanished, leaving behind a demigod child on Ailithir's doorstep that Ailithir had no choice but to care for.

As the Silver Sage, Ailithir was forbidden from marrying or having children, or else he was required to pass up his duties. Hence, when Ailithir returned with the child, Solius, the Lunarian council was outraged. However, since Ailithir had no apprentice, and there was no one suitable to replace him, he was pardoned. Solius, on the other hand, had to suffer through a childhood of prejudice and insults.

Ailithir loved Solius and raised him to the best he could. He secretly hoped that Solius would be the one to replace him as the next Silver Sage, but Solius adamantly refused to study magic, even though he demonstrated incredibly powerful magical abilities at a young age.

When Solius turned 14, a mysterious visitor arrived at the Illuminated City. The visitor, a self-proclaimed powerful sorcercer from the North started to teach Ailithir about dark magic and asked Ailithir to "join him in building a new world together". Slightly frightened, Ailithir rejected his offer. Things escalated and the sorcerer revealed himself to be Sakar, who had really been kidnapped and brought to the North, where he made a deal with a god to grant him powers beyond imagination should he do the god's bidding. Angry at Ailithir's rejection and believing that Ailithir had betrayed him once more, the sorcerer attacked Ailithir. At this point, Solius ran in to help his father, but the sorcerer only turned his attack on Solius. In trying to protect Solius, Ailithir is fatally wounded. With his dying breath, he gave Solius a locket containing a picture of Solius' mother, imploring Solius to seek her out.

Trivia

  • His name is difficult to pronounce for non-Lunaris so he has several nicknames including "Allie" and "Master Sage". He is really, really bad at cooking, in a "can-set-a-salad-on-fire" kind of way. He is bad at taking care of himself in general, and his rooms are always in a mess unless someone tidies up after him. His favourite food is Caden's grilled fish. He doesn't like to be touched or petted by strangers, but loves to be groomed by a lover or a close friend. Like all Feli, he can purr when he is content. His tail is very sensitive, and he allows very few to touch it.
  • He has a beautiful singing voice and can play a variety of musical instruments proficiently.
  • When he was younger, his hair was a pale blue colour. After the war, his hair turned pale silver.
  • He probably makes bad dad jokes and enjoys them unironically. No one has the heart to tell him his jokes are terrible.
  • His hobbies include fishing and gardening (i.e. growing fruits and vegetables) to provide fresh ingredients for Caden. His ideal rest day would probably be spent fishing by a small, sunny stream in the forest and reading a book while waiting for the fish to bite, with the occasion nap in between.
Warning: Borderline NSFW stuff

He is also quite a masochist, and has a secret kink for being physically abused.

AUs (this is just crack)

I like to make Lunarverse AUs of literally everything so just throw any prompt at me (but these are mostly shippy AUs)

Highschool AUStudent council president Ailithir of a fancy private school has to protect his students from getting attacked by the students from the neighbouring Rhyll public school. He also struggles with his crush for delinquent Caden.
Spy AUCaden is a retired spy that ditched his old employers, the Rhyll Corporation, and moved to a small town to work in a coffee shop. There, he meets Ailithir, who is a teacher in a nearby elementary school and frequents Caden's shop. Eventually, they get together, only for Ailithir to be kidnapped one day. Caden hunts down Ailithir's kidnappers, only to find out that Ailithir is a spy for the Lunaris Clan, and they want to enlist Caden's help in taking down a global threat.
