[The Early Days of the Red Ronin]

A ronin and demon slayer from the [---] period. Where ever demons run rampant, spirits run a muck, and things (or people) need killing, Inuka Osamu is always just a few paces away... for the right coin.

Once upon a time Osamu was a young samurai hired by a lord with a lust for blood-- a spirits blood in fact. While certainly there are yokai and other beings that are good, the lord did not believe it. What he did believe is that they were immortal beings and their blood could stop his mortal body from the cold grasps of time. Osamu did not care what the lord had him slay; all forms of spirits and demons targeted were a ticket for another day of meals and a roof over his head. Day after day Osamu set out to bring back the heads of all sorts of spirits and mythical creatures for this mad lord to bathe in. It is rumored that Osamu had slain so many lives that the blood turned his hair red as fire, and with his already grim scowl and stare it gives him an appearance of oni looking for a kill to drag back into Hell with him.

One spring day Osamu was ordered to to seek out an okami spirit that had destroyed an entire village. It seemed like any other typical job: pay from the lord to yet again bring another head and a good pay from the village to keep its people safe. Osamu set out at once and found a smile crack onto his lips as it seemed the Okami spirit somehow started to elude him and his expert hunting and tracking skill. The spirit was certainly a challenge, Osamu for the first in a while was hurt and bleeding heavily, but the slayer was relentless and eventually cornered the spirit deep in the forest. The "dog" was as blood stained as Osamu, the fire within it's eyes screamed for it's life to continue one day more, but in the end the spirit willingly lowered its head to be cleanly slain by the ronin. Osamu did not know why he hesitated as soon he and the spirits eyes met, but his injuries would eventually catch up with him and down the hunter went.

The last thing he remembered as his consciousness faded was the spirit looming over him. He felt oddly at peace as the shadow closed in-- his sins against the spirit realm had to be repented one day. With what could be his last breath, Osamu let his grip fall and his sword render itself ready to be masterless.

As his vision faded, Osamu had sworn he saw the shadow of the spirit turn into a mysterious woman.

Osamu awoke days later in a home hidden in the forest. His injuries were patched, his sword was shiethed back into its holster-- he was sure this was gods trick to get him comfortable in the afterlife then get it taken away at once. As he pealed himself from his resting area he stumbled out to a yard where he found a woman with mystical red hair playing with pups with strange markings. One thing led to another and soon Osamu found himself headover heels this woman who had turned out to be the Okami he spared.

However, Osamu was awkward as he is large and intimidating. His deadline for the hunt was nearing and without a word the man collected his belongings and left. Upon his arrival back to the lords palace the slayer threw the head of a stray dog with painted on marking into the lords lap-- claiming it as the Okami spirit slain. As payment was being presented Osamu merely took a handful of the coin from the sack and left the lord to their own devices. His leave from the estate marked the end of his contract with the mad lord and made way back to the village that the okami spirit nearly destroyed in an attempt to find food her children, but were seen as a threat instead.

Osamu once again stumbled into the home of the woman and her pups. Although humans were never meant to see or co-exist with spirits, Osamu knelt before the Okami and swore his life and love to protect her.

[The Kitsune war]

Years later the Humans and Kitsunes were at odds with one another. Waves of blood soaked the fields in red as heads rolled into homes and bodies were cradled in mud. One by one the now grown pups of the Okami spirit were slain by neighboring villagers and mercenaries who merely feared anything with mystical canine features. At the head of this fear mongering was the Lord that Osamu once served-- now decrepit and mad with blood lust for anything with canine ears. Slaying them was revenge for Osamu bringing him back a strays head that he blames for making him ugly and repulsive.

As the mobs closed in Osamu had no choice but to protect his wife and their only pup. The wife in her human form fled from the village as Osamu led his own one man charge into the mob. The thrill of a killing and hunt started to settle in once more and soon the Red Ronin took his title back momentarily. As his sword sank deep into the Lords chest a scream and a roar was heard within the distance where his wife fled with their child. Osamu left as swiftly as he could, leaving the lord to soak in his own blood and watch the village burn.

Upon his arrival Osamu found an abnormally large Kitsune man stand over his wife in her human form. She laid lifeless as she cradled her son in her arms. The kitsune heard Osamu draw near and in a mad war and revenge driven rampage the two fought tooth and nail until one of the skilled warriors fell to their knees upon a deadly blow. Osamu heard from his wifes corpse a faint cry and left the kitsune to slowly perish and breath their final breath. It wasn't safe here anymore and Osamu knew within the distance the smell of Kistune blood would draw near others as the war closed in. The father ran deeper into the forest and eventually to the mountains where he and his half breed son lived as the Human Kitsune war unfolded beneath them.

---

  • Once his son was of age and the war was over, Osamu went back to demon slaying for coin.
  • The money he makes is donated to the monastery that houses his son.
    • They vowed to keep him safe and a secret from other hunters aslong as Osamu continued to "donate" and keep them safe as well from more evil spirits.
  • Osamu does not speak much anymore-- or if at all.
  • He has stayed "48" for quite some time.
    • Sadness took over his soul and thus made a deal with an Oni that promised him a life aslong as a spirits while still a "human", this and only in exchange for being a willing host for the Oni when the bloodlust is nigh. (( haha look at that! Dads got TWO part time jobs!! ))
    • He also took this job to continue looking after his son who ages slowly like a spirit/yokai... though he seems cold to the boy at times... many times. All the time, he loves the stupid boy.
  • He has a personal vendetta dedicated to the kitsune and its kin* to avenge his wife's wrongful death, so this deal with the oni to slay for potentially all eternity worked just fine.
    • He has actually a vendetta towards ALL kitsune kind, but the family of the primary one is his main target. So far he has found one kin still alive and is hunting him down when he can.
    • His son doesn't know this nor harbor the same ill feelings.
  • His right eye is gone but with the deal with the oni, it was replaced with an all seeing one that saw spirits in hiding. Easier to hunt with, but Osamu likes a challenge so he keeps it closed/unused.
