For years out of the apocalyptic badlands, there were horror stories of a ghost. A man unseen who could make entire patrols disappear in the night, leaving them to be found in the morning mutilated and stripped of all belongings. For five years he haunted the ruins around Stuttgart until he was finally apprehended, revealing a weathered young face to be the face of the ghost. After a long period of confinement and questioning from Assistant Commandant Hans, he was conscripted in the beast corps to serve the rest of his days to atone for his crimes against Stuttgart.

At age twenty-four, he had been outside for ten years not knowing that there was any real civilization left. Left with haunting memories of the monster that he was and those of his mother and brother dying, as well as his companion that he had out there for a time, he was left feeling as a ghost again until he had met Erika, another outsider who had to find herself in the civilized world again. Being an expert fighter, having survived killing raiders and beasts alike, he was looked upon quickly for these traits as well as his cold mercilessness.

One fateful day Erika had decided to bring him to church where he had seen a pastor who he had beaten when he had visited him in captivity. The man showed him forgiveness, giving Heinrich Hess, the man who was the ghost, the first taste of what was going to become his life. Through his periods of being a soldier in the horrid world he lived in, his bond with Erika deepened into a love he could not understand, and he always found himself often with her, which brought him to church more and more. Eventually the two were together and for all intents and purposes, he thought he had atoned until the day she turned into a beast then left.

It was that day that he became a warrior of God. Coming to the church he broke down on his knees, repenting for the crimes that he had committed and became born again, forgoing a life that he had and deciding that he only lived at that point to administer gods justice in the only way he could- by being a warrior, cutting through the hordes of evil with a spear and bible in hand with his brothers in arms who couldn’t understand it.

Emeric has been mentioned in Option 1, where as Heinrich is an outsider from "savage" areas taken under Emerics wing as a long term friend and ally in their social climb. Both are seasoned hitmen and originally met through their typical military work. Main thing is that they are "bros" and both kind of intimidating people of power by later on in the story
