- Since becoming a demon slayer, Yuu has started to regularly wear make up in an attempt to hide his resemblance to Nigami.
- Yuu is dominantly left-handed.
- He has a habit using his sword's sheath as a guard. As a result, he's come to destroy a number of them. His swordsmith offered to make him dual-swords, but Yuu stubbornly sticks to his ways.
- He calls his breath style the Breath of Food. All nine forms have been changed into different dishes. No, he does not take criticism.
- Yuu takes after his father appearance-wise. Its a fact he hates.
Before becoming a Demon Slayer, Yuu lived together with his older brother and sister-in-law. Both his parents died when he was just a small child and Nigami mysteriously disappeared not long after, so he has little recollection of either of them. He lived at constant odds with his older brother, with the two fighting over his older brother's overprotective nature and Yuu's delinquent ways. No matter how hard his sister-in-law tried to improve their relationship, it only continued to spiral downwards until it became a norm for Yuu to spend days away from home and then immediately lash out upon finally coming home.
It was during his preteens when he encountered a demon and was nearly killed by it that he came to learn of the Demon Slaying Corps' existence. Curious about demons and about the person who saved him, he ran away from home and sought out someone to teach him how to fight. Although reluctant at first, his teacher eventually gave in on the condition that Yuu would drop his delinquent ways and work on managing his anger issues, and eventually meet again with his brother and reconcile. He participated in the same Final Selection as Shimo Mau and passed with little trouble.

Yuu is the younger brother of Nigami and their junior. Nigami disappeared when he was still a young child, so he has little recollection of them. Although they have participated in a few missions together and are in good terms with each other, neither has acknowledged any familial ties with the other.
Enmei is the older brother of Yuu and who took care of him up until he decided to become a demon slayer. They have a very strained relationship, with the two constantly haven fought befoer Yuu abruptly disappeared without notice, and Yuu does not look forward to the day the two will reunite.
Yuu greatly admires Haru, both for his strength and his wisdom. He is one of the few people Yuu feels comfortable coming to for any advice.
