Karma possesses a strong sense of assertiveness, fearlessly challenging the status quo and pushing boundaries. She staunchly stands by her own convictions and defends the beliefs of those she admires and loves. Friends of Karma can rely on her when they need her the most. She’s loyal to the bone and has a strong sense of justice, even if her justice is harsh and unconventional. Mischievousness comes naturally to her. History: 

In Hoenn - The beginnings

Karma was born in an old town in the Hoenn Kingdoms called Dawnburg. Karma has always been naturally mischievous. She was a trickster even as a baby according to her mother. Her mother is a Banette and her father is a Dusknoir named Dharma and William respectively. In Dawnburg, the Shadowmend family ran a business that sold potions, magical items, books and odd products you wouldn’t be able to easily find in their area. They even offered services of allowing Karma to eat disgruntled customers' emotions for temporary relief (A Shuppet’s natural ability).

When Karma wasn’t helping with the family business, she was receiving education at “Vammany, Academy for Arcane Arts” which was a school for children of wealthy families to learn and better their magic skills. Karma made a few acquaintances but no one she’d consider a friend. Karma was adept at magic but she enjoyed the life of a thief as well. Stealing shiny expensive jewelry was far more satisfying than buying it with her parents' money. Karma also enjoyed pranking and scaring locals with her fellow ghost type classmates. She was known as a troublemaker in Dawnburg.

Moving Galar - The Sisterhood of the Grim

Due to Karma’s overly mischievous nature and her inability to take her role in the family seriously she was sent to live with Aunt Beatrice (aka Betty) the Gourgeist in the Galar kingdoms. Dharma couldn’t stand Karma at her rebellious age of 16 years old, so she passed the stress on to Betty who was more than happy to finally meet her niece. Betty was pretty renowned around Galar herself. Betty is the leader of “The Sisterhood of the Grim” a group of women who were known as low level criminals in the eyes of the law. Although, the sisterhood don't see themselves as criminals, just Pokémon who faced major injustices from the world and decided to forge their own paths.

The main hub for the sisterhood can be found in a once abandoned town that was brought back to life by Betty and other sisterhood members. It's now a somewhat bustling town of Pokémon with a few makeshift homes. When Karma moved in with Betty she was able to get her own hut. Karma would have to expand it on her own accord. Betty became a mentor for Karma, teaching her about the hard life of living without the luxuries she had back in Dawnburg. While it was tough for Karma in the beginning, she began to learn the ropes and enjoyed the life of being a part of the sisterhood.

While living with Betty she met the other leaders of the sisterhood. Cinder the Cinderace bandit queen, Captain Dread the Sharpedo Pirate, Kagura the Sensu style Oricorio innkeeper, Morgana the potion obsessed witch. Karma befriended the leaders and got to see their day to day lives and their roles in the sisterhood. She met Nia the Misdreavus as well, a young witch in training. Nia and Karma quickly became friends since they had similar interest. Karma went on her first quest with the sisters when she was 23 years old. The sisterhood needed some extra funds and there was a promise of gold and wealth in Dahara City of the Kalos Region.

Journey to Kalos - Awakening the Beast

The leaders of the sisterhood arrived at Dahara City where they gathered information about the burial of a once dangerous being called Pandora the Hoopa. Using the information given by the Dahara citizens the sisterhood made their way to the burial and raided the tomb. During their raid, Karma found a prison bottle, it was hidden away from the typical stash of rare items. Unfortunately, the sisterhood didn’t do enough research, they were unaware of the danger of the prison bottle and what it held. They thought the burial was for a dead Hoopa not a sealed away monster. The Prison bottle spoke to Karma, taking over her mind for just a moment, beckoning her to open it. The voice promised all the wealth for Karma and her family, every desire Karma wanted would be fulfilled.

Karma had a lot of desires. Without much hesitation Karma opened the bottle and even destroyed it with her shadow hands. The beast in the bottle was free and made sure everyone knew about it. A wave of psychic and dark power blasted out, knocking the sisters off their feet and sending shockwaves even further than Dahara. When the sisters recovered from the blast they were greeted by an overly eager bound form Hoopa who referred to themself as Pandora.

Pandora shook hands with all the sisters including Karma. Thanking them for setting them free and was about to make a mad dash for the exit. Suddenly the Hoopa stopped, almost like they were being held back by an unknown force. Karma’s soul faltered when the Hoopa stared at her like she had done something heinous. That excited and cheerful nature of the Hoopa quickly faded. Suddenly, Pandora lunged at Karma, threatening to chop her head off so they could be freed from “cursed shackles”. Cinder quickly leaped into action, striking Pandora so hard in the stomach that they flew into a stone pillar and passed out.

Karma was beyond stunned, she held her own throat to soothe herself. What had she gotten herself into?

Returning Home - The Darkness

The sisters began to investigate the legend further now. With Pandora unconscious they had time to research. Inside the burial they found scriptures of the tale of Hoopa. This Hoopa in particular was a beloved figure of Dahara, Pandora brought them protection and wealth, using their hoops to bring gold and food stolen from other lands. Pandora even had a cult, their cult was full of cutthroats and thieves, similar to the sisterhood but much worse. Pandora’s power seemed unquellable until someone named Sorrel “killed” Pandora to end the cult and their influence. The last part was obviously a lie, they didn’t kill them but only sealed them away. The scriptures never explained why.

It seemed that the priest that sealed Pandora made a fail safe, an unbreakable bond between the person who released the beast and Hoopa. If Karma died, Pandora would too. Pandora was under Karma’s beck and call. This put everyone at an advantage against Pandora. When the Hoopa finally woke up, Karma was delighted to break the news to the Hoopa. Pandora couldn’t do much besides take the loss but they were certainly defiant about it. Nothing is worse than dealing with a cranky mythical Pokémon.

When the sisterhood arrived back in Galar they were informed of the darkness, learning it was running rampant and making its way to Galar. With that news the sisterhood quickly had to split to check on their own villages and camps. Karma and Betty were left to defend their own home but now the unpleasant mischief of a spiteful Hoopa.

    • She uses a Kusarigama (aka chain-sickle) as a long range weapon. On the end of the chain instead of a heavy iron weight she has attached a planchette. She can look through the planchette to see souls or unusual things not seen by normal eyes, allowing Karma to hunt down the person by seeing their soul if she can’t see their body( (I.e: through walls).

      • This object is cursed, passed down through the shadowmend family and is very effective on fellow ghost types.
      • The blade is sharp, it can cut through some objects, good at slicing dicing up creatures, if it hits a ghost type it can leave a wound that’s hard to heal (a mark of death but they don’t die).
