"Once upon a time... there was a great, big castle, with lots of very big, bright, happy hearts. All of the heads fueled by their beats would frolic each and everyday on the back of one another, and would catch one another when they'd fall."

"So, one day, a big, bad bird came around. His wings would beat to the rhythm of his brain, because he lacked a heart, and he lacked any real reason to prove himself of having one. The eyes of the colorful children rolled out of their heads in awe, into the mouth of the bird. Sitting atop his nest, he'd chew their eyes digest them in exchange for helium; helium he'd laugh, filling their hearts to twice the size they once were. Empty as balloons, they floated around, making big statements with little tiny words. They gave him a crown and called them their hero, even if deep down, he knew he was a bird of prey."

He's charming and cordial in most professional settings. Some observe an unusually flamboyant quality.
However, his personality notably shifts when he's in more intimate settings. He can be detached and aloof, or not very friendly at all. It may take time for him to open up to you.

I haven’t detailed much of August’s story nor motivations here,  as he is part of an ongoing comic, but as with all of my characters, you are welcome to ask.

APPEARANCE

 A rather princely beauty, though seemingly worn. His subordinates like to gossip that his eyes are of a tattered doll. He's rather built and stands at a towering 6'7.

He suffers from Birdie Antoinette Syndrome. Born with plum colored hair and wings, their natural beauty faded away as the plights and trials of his past withered them away.

Consequently, he's lost use of his wings due to too much repeated stress. He can't fly, but he can store his wings in his earrings using magic.

 His voice is very calm and sweet; midranged.

The mad king whose sole goal in life is to create the most perfect, kindest world history has ever seen. Driven by the idea that everybody has the power to handle their emotions in a responsible matter, and that irresponsibility in this regard is what leads to the suffering of others, August created a set of laws that make ordinary hurtful acts towards others a punishable crime. Bullies are arrested, cheaters are thrown away and chronic liars are forced into hiding, for in August's new world, everyone will think before they act.

Or else.

❤ Part of his job involves catching the "criminals" of his world; those who "harmfully" express sadness, anger or jealousy.

- He acts as the one and ultimate judge of his people, passing judgement upon their deeds. Those who are deemed "contagiously emotional" are destined to be viewed stigmatically through the rose-colored glasses of Joyelfian society, circling in an unbreakable current drawn to the depths of outcast. Those who play nice and treat others with kindness and humility are personally adored and praised by his majesty himself. 

- Gives social benefits and tax relief to society's kindest; takes advantage of their society's most broken to do his bidding for him personally under the visage of "social rehabilitation".

- Is rumored by his enemies to quietly punish those whom he dislikes in unusual ways. There are some who even claim that he's mad with bloodlust. Merely a rumor, however, as nobody has lived nor claimed to see him actually do it. It's sort of hard to pin such an accusation on a man who cares for bunnies and goes out of his way to make orphans smile.

- The true reason why he's attempting to make happiness a law has never left his lips. It's shameful, it's mad, but some might say it's naively human. Regardless, he won't stop until the entirety of their world has come under his rule.

Random facts.

❤ August likes soft things.  His room is filled with stuffed animals, plush fabrics and other unusual novelty collectibles.

- Has loved baby bunnies since he was a little boy. There are several families in his private garden, although he is particularly cautious about touching them.

- Names the bunnies after types of neurotransmitters. Serotonin, Dope, Gaba, so on and so forth.

- Founded an orphanage for displaced children in his castle.

- Has a very large stature. Standing at nearly 6'7, coupled with his monstrous hair and assortment of capes, August might look intimidating. In actuality, he's a softie. 

_{- In fact, he'll melt if you pet his wings. Coos when he's very, very happy.}

_{- Is physically strong, but has low stamina.  Gives piggy-back rides to sad people as a form of workout.}

- _{It is difficult to anger him, but easy to make yourself an enemy to him.}

 ❤ His gloves never seem to quite come off. The only thing he appears to be comfortable touching are things that do not live. Stuffed animals satisfy this requirement. Reasons, unknown.

- It's said that anything the King touches wilts away within a matter of moments. Whether this is true or not is largely debated, as no one as ever seen him take his gloves off.

- Has a very dry, somewhat mean sense of humor.  Doesn't use it in front of crowds; he knows it ruins his friendly visage.

❤  Claims to have taught himself how to read.

_{- He's a very fast learner and has a very good memory as well, but has trouble utilizing these abilities when he's tired and overworked.}

_{- Either sleeps for 14 hours or four. There is no in between; his lifestyle is to blame.}

❤ Smells strongly of lavender and citrus. He deliberately wears it to relax his subordinates.

_{- Notorious neat-freak. Is meticulous about being clean and looking "good" enough to be seen. Fusses over makeup, clothing -- and, yes, even his hair.}

_{- A bit of a self-absorbed diva. Would never admit it, though.}

❤ Seems to automatically forgive anyone, regardless of the nature of their act. He doesn't like to explain his reasons for doing so.

_{- Rumor has it, insincerity is his specialty.}

❤ Seems to find great comfort in homecooked meals and sweet things, especially served hot. You can win his admiration if you give him chocolate.

_{- Is a rather graceful eater; has excellent table manners. However, he loves to eat -- and will mindlessly snack on candies even in the most inappropriate of settings.}

^{- Being half pigeon, he enjoys birdseed and crumbs as ice cream toppings.} 

_{- Having grown up in the lap of luxury, August has no skill for cooking nor cleaning, nor any interest in learning. Would probably be a total mess if he were to live on his own.}

- Plays Jenga with himself regularly.

❤ Spends a lot of time by himself. Outside of his immediate "attendants", he doesn't really seem to have a lot of close connections and even prefers to eat alone.

- He's rather sensitive to being teased.

- Though he can boast an immeasurable amount of pride on the best of days, he has a rather sour opinion of himself in regards to his physical appearance.

- Having very long hair helps him to feel more secure in this regard.
