Mitsuki is generally viewed as a little strange, as she has the ability to see and interact with the supernatural. She's much more fascinated with the things of that world than anything else and she goes to great effort to learn about it. She spends a lot of time reading and investigating things, leaving her little time to do much socializing. Although she's certain that her father has a pretty good idea of how few friends she has, she tries to make it sound like she spends more time around others her age. Mitsuki loves exploring and occasionally gets lost while doing so. Even being lost is an adventure in and of itself, and she always manages to keep herself out of any real trouble. She often gets lost in daydreaming, especially at school, but is clever enough that she rarely ever falls behind in her work.

About

Her father Takashi was working as a spiritual medium/exorcist before he was even graduated from high school, and he met her mother when her parents called on him in a final attempt to get rid of whatever was causing strange sounds in their house at night. The two of them quickly fell for each other, and were married only six months later. Mitsuki was born a year after that, shortly after her mother finished high school. Everything was fine until it became apparent that Mitsuki was able to see and interact with the various spirits that often hung around her father, but that others couldn't see. Her mother had always been a little stressed about the whole concept of some other plane existing parallel to their world, but when their daughter was obviously seeing something that wasn't there, she couldn't handle it. Her parents wound up getting a divorce, and her mother practically disappeared from her life, only to send occasional birthday gifts or cards.

Mitsuki learned quickly that she was different from other children, and had to learn fast in order to know what kinds of things she could and couldn't talk about with them, in order to keep from being considered weird or ridiculed. When she was six, Mitsuki befriended another child and became close to them, but it turned out that they were actually a malevolent spirit in disguise. Her father caught on before it could do any serious damage, but as he engaged it in combat, it put a curse on Mitsuki that destroyed any control she had over her powers. Her father managed to craft a charm to combat it, in the form of a bracelet, and warned her never to remove it. Mitsuki has taken that very seriously. Because of the amount of power she holds, her father has, on very rare occasions, used it to boost his own abilities. At the same time, he's trained her how to fight back if someone is using her power against her will, and told her to stop anyone who is using it in a way that she doesn't approve of, even if it's him.

For her sixteenth birthday, Mitsuki purposely delayed in handing out invitations, intending that her classmates would have too little notice to be able to attend. She also delivered one to an upperclassman known as Tatsuo, whom she had met in a cafe and that she suspected could see the same things that she did. He wound up appearing for her party, though it was only the two of them. Tatsuo gifted her a book in a different language, offering to help her translate it sometime later. Mitsuki was surprised by the gift and happily accepted the offer. It turned out that Tatsuo was as sensitive to the paranormal as she was, a common interest for them to discuss. As they started work on translating the book, Mitsuki found mention of a dark charm which sounded familiar; she was able to draw it out from the book, where it had been tucked away as a sort of bookmark. A demon presently attacked and Mitsuki found herself shielded by Tatsuo, who revealed his form as the son of a demon god, as well as his true name of Jin. After Mitsuki supplied him with a boost of her own powers, he was able to defeat the attacker.

Over the following three months, the two of them met frequently to work on translation of the book. Mitsuki learned as quickly as she could, asking questions that the book didn't answer, but that Jin could. He began bringing examples of things mentioned in the book to show her, from plants to small animals that he could safely transport. They drew closer as they spent more time together, with Mitsuki frequently inviting him over for dinner with herself and her father, who had also accepted Jin for who he truly was. Mitsuki began to fret over the possibility of an actual relationship with Jin, but she continually worried that he wouldn't feel that way, due to the various differences between them. When he did finally share his feelings, it was the answer that Mitsuki had hoped for. The two of them visited Jin's home world after finishing the translation of the book, allowing Mitsuki to see everything in person. It was shortly after that when Jin got into a fight with his father, who left the boy for dead. Mitsuki found him injured, unconscious, and barely alive. Despite the fact that his demon blood burned her, Mitsuki used what knowledge she had to force Jin into a contract, drawing upon herself a seal to finalize it. Her efforts allowed her to stabilize him, and her father was able to assist in treating his wounds. It was with much trepidation that she explained everything to Jin when he woke, but he only expressed gartitude at being kept alive to stay with her. Not long after that, Mitsuki's father heard rumors that she may be targeted for her abilites and ties to Jin; at his prompting, Jin removed Mitsuki from the area, watching over her as they traveled with the intention of returning when the danger had passed.

Trivia

Mitsuki was originally designed as a stand-alone child/fan OC, but her story was adapted to fit into the world of Starchase.

"Redstring" is the shipping name for Jin and Mitsuki, in reference to the "red string of fate" which ties them together.

Mitsuki is absolutely fascinated by Jin's demon appearance, and his wings in particular. She especially adores anytime that she gets to see them, whether it's because of Jin just showing off/flirting with her, or because of an intention to fly. The first time she saw them was the first time that Jin protected her, using his wings to shield her from possible attacks.
