Transforming into a devourer isn't really a "painless" process. You fall into a pitch black abyss, that slowly consumes your body, outside in. Everything around you becomes incredibly cold, a freezing sensation that reaches into your soul, and doesn't let go. And you stay like this, in a cold, immobile darkness for like seems like hours, or days, or weeks... or maybe years? You lose the track of time.

Devourers usually stay at this state, their souls being lost in the darkness and their bodies and mind being overtaken by hunger; transforming into a mindless being with one only purpose: to eat. But Moon didn't. They awoke as a dark puddle after transforming to a Devourer, a mindless creature only devoted to consume Mana, Moon lost all of their memories, but his mind wasn't consumed by hunger either. Even though they were conscious enough to resist, they were still starved, so they ran, deciding to live away from people to not hurt anybody, and not to lose themselves. Plus, they wanted to search about themselves, figure out their past, who they were...
